this game require editing core configuration files in order to get this in a playable state. it's not hard but can be very hard to find docs
audio would randomly cutout
split lock detection was causing frames to stay below 30 fps
the linux foundation broke many steam play games by blovking apps that abuse split locks. Causing many steam play games to not be able to precompile many of it's shaders leading to high input latency and very low FPS (sub 30fps). This can be turned off but does require editing kernel parameters to get this game to a playable state. For Arch the directions are listed below:
- Navigate to file path: /boot/loader/entries
- open the main linux kernel parameters in your favorite text editor.
- add the parameter split_lock_detect=off to the end of the options section.
- save the file and reboot your PC
Please be advised this is mainly for Arch users using systemd boot, if you are using grub and/or non-Arch based dristos this may not be all you have to do.
the game runs well on steam deck and my RTX 3080 PC, i did experience 3 cashes all of them were on my ship.
The game is super fun and worth the effort of installing and even then it's not that hard to install. instructions to install:
- Go to your app store and download protonup-qt5
- Install in steam the GE-Proton7-47 version
- Force compatiblity on steam and change the version from experimental to the GE version
You should be able to run it, please be advised I also edited my kernel perameters to have split locking disabled. if you need instructions on how to disable that on an Arch system running systemd-boot you can look at my God of War report here on protondb.
runs flawlessly a very well optimized game, i usually stop playing from my hands cramping long before i run out of battery. runs at a rock steady 90 fps the only frame drops are when you release your frenzy and there are alot of enemies on screen and it usually quickly recovers.
Runs like native but you'll need hi refresh rate to counter protons added latency
when on window fullscreen the game would lock it's self to 800p resolution i could only change it on fullscreen
at 1080p high settings i was only able to run a 144hz while on windows i could run at the same fps but at 1440p.
if you want to use the wireless dongle for xbox controller on arch you will need to install the xone driver from the AUR.
A great game that is a mix of a visual novel and RPG in a medieval setting. Great to play on the Steam Deck and runs amazingly.
cranked the details to high and it was running at 90 fps the entire time and it only used about 40% of the battery
the steam deck oled allowed me to play at 90 fps high details through the whole campaign and i still had 30% battery left.
runs great but has very bad screen tearing and nothing can be done about as far as i could do.
heavy screen tearing on both wayland and x11
the screen would constantly tear even when i set vsync to triple buffer and set the frame cap to match my refresh rate there is still screen tearing. and this is on both X11 and Wayland and i even have a freesync compatible monitor.
