protontricks 244210 dotnet472
As another commentator suggested, this combination of one protontrick and older Proton version are all that is necessary to run the base game.
- Xbox One controller works fine.
- Logitech G29 also works extremely well. The force feedback, rumble, and inputs are all what you expect.
Game is stored on an XFS partition. Running with visual settings on maximum, and the FPS never drops below 120. There is some slowdown when first loading a track. No issues with audio. The DLC works fine. Have not yet tried the Content Manager.

Small hiccups at times.
One crash while making custom fleet.
Runs well with the latest GE. Did not need to install MF. Proton Experimental did not support in-game videos.

Citizens popping in and out.
Solid 30fps on epic settings. I imagine that will improve in the future, but is entirely playable as is.
Proton-5.9-GE-2-MF GloriousEggroll
Runs well at max settings. Five hours with zero problems.
Sometimes it takes a little while to reach the main menu, but I never played it on Windows to compare by. Game runs fine after that.
5.11-GE-2-MF GloriousEggroll
Started game with DX11. Played with wired Xbox One controller, had no issues.
Audio with Buxton was missing.
Crashed a few times between races.
Runs at 60fps on ultra settings. Game is stored on XFS partition. Barring the odd crash, it's a very pleasant experience. Have had no input problems between MKB and Xbox One controller.
Rare freezes when saving. Doesn't seem to be a Linux specific issue.
Works extremely well with both Logitech G29 and Xbox One controller. I used Oversteer with the new-lg4ff drivers for the G29.
Copied mfc140u.dll into folder.
Just like Gwent, needs the DLL pasted. Together with GE the cinematics played correctly. The cinematics did not play with Experimental. Otherwise, performance is excellent and ran at 144 fps vsynced.

Sometimes lag/fps drops that resolved itself after beginning/finishing a mission.
Besides the few times the FPS dropped rather low, it otherwise runs at 60+ with settings on high.

Followed guide to workaround the launcher: https://redd.it/y49vcz
Certain decal textures appear to be missing. Does not affect gameplay.
Played several missions without issue. Getting between 30-60fps with all settings on high, low volumetric fog, no depth of field, and FSR on high quality.
5.11-GE-1-MF GloriousEggroll
Game sometimes crashed when trying to alt-tab.
Initially loading the game takes a bit, but load times are short thereafter (I never played on Windows, so I don't know if that is the case on that platform as well). Settings mostly on high, except for shadows, and can hold 60fps with few hiccups.
Took a few things to get it running:
- Deleted the 552500 folder in ~/steamlibrary/steamapps/compatdata.
- Removed the MicrosoftEdgeWebview.exe in the VT2 launcher folder.
- Set the version to temporary_launcher_workaround.
- Added the launch option: -eac-untrusted.
After finishing the introductory mission, I had all my characters, their progress, and equipment.
The game is stored on an XFS formatted partition. Ran the game on extreme settings at 1920x1080. The FPS never dropped below 60 during missions. The performance is markedly better than what I experienced with Windows on high settings.
