Contrary to most opinions, this game does not run very well at all
- Game only ran with experimental, most GE versions (even the by many people here recommended 18-GE-2 version).
- Option menu would crash on apply.
- Couldn't move the camera with the mouse or arrow keys.
- Clicking on units wouldn't work.
- Couldn't place buildings
In general, the game has not performed in any shape or form for me.
Works like a charm. Barely any issues, works like a native game.
You can't use Escape if you alt-tabbed out of the game. Force window mode to fix this.
Game runs like a charm on the latest proton experimental
Media Foundation missing, obviously, so some cutscenes show the funny error screen. Other than that, I have not noticed a single issue in the game, alt-tabbing works, no performance issues, nothing. Just a great experience.
Works, but getting it to run is a bit a hazzle
Run it with proton experimental first for configuration. It will freeze after a while. Kill it and download the latest proton GE (https://github.com/GloriousEggroll/proton-ge-custom/releases/tag/6.19-GE-2) and run it with it, which should get it to run. It did work for me.
Game runs with a few workarounds, but multiplayer doesn't work.
Game doesn't start with Steam-Proton, but doesn't configure with Proton-GE
Run it first via Proton Experimental, wait until it hangs, kill it, then launch it via a new version of Proton-GE.
I played this on linux desktop as well as the steam deck - zero problems on either device. Controller scheme is extremely good, but it's fixed and not customizeable, which means you can't make use of the steam decks back button - unfortunate, but not a deal breaker.
On the initial launch, select DX11, once that is done, you can pass the --skip-launcher flag in the advanced configuration to ... well, skip the launcher. DX11 will be the default then.
Worked out of the box with the latest proton version, even with an nvidia GPU
Audio stuttering and crackling at times, but not enough to ruin the experience
Occasional stuttering in crowded areas, like markets
None of them related to linux tho ;P
Runs great, no tweaks needed.
Mangohud seems to be unreliable in this game. I've had two scenarios where my FPS dumped into the low 20s (was doing some work in the background, nothing to do with the game or linux), but mangohud still said the game was running on 60 FPS, even tho it clearly wasn't.
I've experienced two hard crashes in the time, both seem to be caused by updates. Every time my game crashed, I got a game content update.
Other than that, no issues at all. Runs like a linux native.
Borked.
Dug through the logs and it seems the game is using some proprietary Anti-Cheat that doesn't work with proton.
Ran very fine once I switched to GE-6-13.1. Severe performance issues with most other proton versions I tried.
Out of sync when alt-tabbing
Overall a nice plug-and-play experience with proton experimental
Game has severe performance issues in some areas, dropping to low 20s at times, however, this seems to be the fault of poor optimization in general, not a linux issue. In general, my FPS are in the range of 45 - 60. Also, fire seems to lower the FPS quite a bit, just lighting a torch and running around with it lower FPS by 5 - 6.
It just works™. No config changes or anything necessary. Runs out of the box.
Runs almost buttery smooth on latest proton experimental
Didn't even have to block the DNS entries. However, sometimes, the game only shows the logo and a black screen as title menu, which requires a restart. Otherwise, the experience has been almost flawless.
You see a quick glimpse of the anti-cheat, then it will crash
Tried Proton Experimental, Proton-6.9-GE-2 and Proton 6.3-4
The game doesn't play well with mangohud tho, it crashes on startup. Couldn't resolve that problem.
Single crash during my entire playtime
Works really well. All multiplayer problems are game problems, not linux problems.
Runs out of the Box with the latest Proton Version. No issues whatsoever aside from the "normal" issues with the game.
Very small performance issues, especially with plenty of unity around. Not that noticeable tho.
Game works without much tinkering on linux, but runs very poor across all systems, no matter the OS
The game is poorly optimized, so most likely not linux's fault
Works well, but performance is an issue.
The game works rather well when using Proton 4.13, fails on proton 5.x. However, the game is also unusually slow given my hardware. I don't have the newest rig, but I still think it should be able to provide stable 60 FPS in this game at 1k resolution, which it's not right now. Cutscenes are hard to watch with severe graphical and audio glitches.
