Need run it with Proton 9-0.4 Unlock fps - https://www.nexusmods.com/assassinscreedivblackflag/mods/453?tab=files&file_id=774

Performance is great but needs a mod due to a progress-breaking bug
Sometimes the game freezes right after a launch. Restarting it fixes the problem.
There is a bug (which also affects native Windows) where the game is stuck on an infinite loading screen when accessing the fleet management. My understanding is that Ubisoft had caused it in one of updates. Nexus has a mod with an exe that fixes the bug.

Having to frequently reboot the game to get 60FPS consistently is borked in my opinion.
Ultrawide does not work properly; on a 21:9 screen, the game is letterboxed to ~40:9.
FPS starts stuttering after ~1h playtime. Needs a full restart at that point to remain playable.

Seems the publisher launcher can't install
I was ultimately unable to play this game with included Proton versions in Steam. Perhaps GE would work, but I couldn't get the launcher to load/install. The game reports installed, but nothing happens after about a minute, and then the play buttoin turns green again indicating the launch failed.

After about an hour of playtime the game begins to stutter and lag. Upon restarting the game the issue instantly disappears.
Changing any display/graphics settings causes the game to freak out, and I had to reinstall to get it to be playable again. The default settings work well enough, so after that I kept them as-is.

Doesn't work no matter what
I've tried a bunch of old Proton versions, GE-Proton, even bleeding-edge Proton Experimental and yet, after Ubisoft Connect starts, the game just doesn't launch (or maybe crashes before the window can be drawn).

Runs perfectly except some minor issues.
Cloud saves don't work.
Soft shadows cause the game to crash, to revert it Assassin4.ini needs to be edited/deleted.
The Ubisoft launcher is a minor annoyance.
- You have to re-enter your password every time.
- It needs to be killed manually after the exiting the games

Could select items in main menu, but not click them using ps5 controller via usb
my old save file was lost, might be an issue with steam or ubisoft

Ubisoft requires you to enter your password everytime you launch the game.
Ubisoft requires you to enter your password every time you launch the game. I found a fix in one of the earlier reports:
- Launch the game and log in;
- Shut the game off
- Turn off the wifi of the Deck;
- Launch the game offline, log in;
- Shut the game off;
- Turn on WiFi, Launch the game, it no longer requires you to enter your credentials.
Also, be advised, Edward's Fleet no longer works. Maybe with some mod or tinkering you might get some use out of it, but Ubisoft shut it down.

I disabled Steam Overlay, but don't think that was necessary.
The savegame has to be copied over manually
First time launch and launch with default settings works well. Do not attempt to change the graphics settings in game, otherwise the game crashes all the time on start.
Make a copy of the Assassin4.ini if you plan to change graphic settings.

The game does not start with Valve's Proton 9 on my PC. I needed to use GE Proton.

This being a Ubisoft game there's a bug with the log-in screen, which asks you to log-in every time to start the game. Search on Reddit as there's a way to fix this so it doesn't ask you to log-in (you have to play offline though). For me what fixed it was: start game normally; log-in once; shut game off; turn wifi off; start game offline; exit game; from then on you can turn wifi, start the game and it won't ask you ever again.
Aside from this, the game plays great

When dust (like in ship breaking / boarding) is active, performance drops heavily
If the overlays (ubisoft & steam) dont show within like 10 seconds of the game starting, it may freeze and require a restart. The best workaround i found is to immediately try opening the ubisoft overlay before it freezes.

Fortunately Ubisoft Connect wasn't a problem for this game
The only problems i had involves the fact that this game has a bad PC port

Random freezes and crashes where the video freezes with sound still playing. Game doesn't respond and you need to kill the app to get out. This can occur at any moment, from the first loading screen to inside the game. Tried with Proton 8, 9 and the UMU versions provided by Steam. All of them have the problem.

Was only able to start the game once
I have tried every proton version, only worked with Proton 8.0-5 once

gamemoderun %command%
Max frame rate I get is 60

Not launching.
MANGOHUD=1 gamemoderun %command%
It freezes immediately on startup.

... except for the tossup that happens on game launch, where it may or may not freeze up entirely when it shows the "saving"/"loading" spinny triangle, which requires a game restart to (hopefully) get past. Also the game doesnt close fully, since the ubisoft launcher (whatever they call it) stays open after you exit the game.
also i just stay on experimental, but i'm sure the game would work fine on steam's recommended proton version

Installs fine, but Ubisoft Connect won’t run
Trying a variety of different Proton versions (incl. custom GE build) and a variety of launch options (incl. none) and removing its directory under compatdata
in between to let it do all the initial setup under each Proton version… Every time, Ubisoft Connect loads up, does a self-update, restarts itself, and then “detect[s] an unrecoverable error and must shut down.”
I’ve run the game previously ages ago under older Protons just fine, so maybe something in my environment is blocking it now, but at the end of the day, right now it is not running at all.

When using MSAA major artifacts happen

The game works great with Mesa drivers I would not recommend using defualt AMD drivers as they tend to crash the game. But a definate 10/10!
If you disconnect an audio device then plug it back in the device can not be switched to until you restart the game.
The game runs well enough but it will lag out seemingly randomly
It runs great on all proton versions 7+ though depending on drivers and the OS your using you may experiance some difficulty connecting the ubisoft launcher to the internet.

PROTON_ENABLE_NVAPI=1 %command%
Heavy artifacting if Anti-Aliasing is put around MSAA
Be sure to disable steam overlay on this one. Can be found in the properties of the game in steam. This consistently caused freezing for me...
Like all titles with Ubisoft play, you need to VPN to the USA in order to log in, aka at least for the first launch or every time if you want access to multiplayer. This is as a user in Sweden

Used u/TiSoBr's method for bypassing the Ubisoft launcher password prompt, found here: https://old.reddit.com/r/SteamDeck/comments/vovl7c/just_a_quick_piece_of_advice_to_enjoy_ubisofts/ (remember to select "Remember Me" in the offline login prompt)
Settings used:
- Environment Quality - High
- Texture Quality - High
- Anti-Aliasing Quality - MSAA 2x
- Shadow Quality - High
- Reflection Quality - Normal
- Motion Blur - Off
- Ambient Occusion - HBAO+ (low)
- God Rays - High
- Volumetric Fog - Off
- Vsync - Off

Tried every proton possible on steam and it simply wouldn't launch. The way I fixed it was by installing the latest Ubisoft Connect launcher on lutris, which can be found at https://lutris.net/games/ubisoft-connect/ and launching Ubisoft Connect using wine as runner. The wine version I've used is: wine-ge-8-25 After that, the game launched on first try and ran out of the box. No bugs or problems so far.

Disable steam overlay and disable VPN for logging into ubisoft connect

No issues after getting past Ubi Connect. Game runs well at default settings, capped at 40fps for consistency.
Ubisoft connect requires login every time. Minor annoyance overall.

Played game with Uplay via Lutris. Didn't need any configuration works great with default options.

Requires experimental proton due to Ubisofts constant meddling. Also nvidia 510, 530 or 535 drivers.
Ubisoft Connect works after Setting MTU: 1400 in StemOS Network
If ubisoft connect doesn't want to connect you can follow this guide tos et your MTU to 1450 in linux: https://linuxhint.com/how-to-change-mtu-size-in-linux/
