Crashes on startup
I tried various options commented here, none of them work
BFG is borked on experimental. Stuck on copyright screen.
A must play for sure, works perfectly
One of a kind game which way too few people have actually completed.
Occasionally it'll slowdown a bit during combat
Given it's probably often on discount it's a good buy
This game is riddled with bugs. ALWAYS USE MULTIPLE SAVE SLOTS. Save slot per town is a good option. This game can AND WILL corrupt your saves.
It's an old buggy rpg, shit breaks. Turn based mode does not slow down, if you get this bug then just spam "a" and move in turn based to the nearest exit. Reloading rarely helps, change zones.
1 or 2 crashes/black screens
It's an old RGP, they're buggy as hell.
It's a great game. You should probably try one of the fan patches like unofficial patch updated. The base game is REALLY buggy. But even with the bugs it's still a cult classic. Do try it.
MANGOHUD_CONFIG=fps_limit=60
If you have shitty monitor you'll get huge VRR flicker, turn off gsync and such
Having played almost all the DLC and the main game I've had two crashes so far
It works perfectly. During first start you'll get some error about net runtime or something like that, but just wait, it'll start the launcher regardless.
I haven't tried it without the 60fps cap, but given it's a Bethesda game it'll probably not work on high fps.
Had to change config files for 60fps limiting to work on mangohud
Sometimes FPS would dip below 30fps
It's the worst fallout there is
It's an old game, they crash
One of the final missions with the nuke has a bug where the nuke won't go off. I think this happens if you use turn-based mode during the countdown. Just run the clock down during turn-based and it should trigger the cutscene.
It's an old RPG, crashes are expected.
Again, it's an older RPG, they were riddled with bugs, especially around quests.
It has the same bugs as in Windows. Limit your FPS to 60. Otherwise it might crash on some missions or just get locked. Certain animations in cutscenes run faster with high FPS and Niko will just get stuck forcing you to restart the mission.
Texture flickering once or twice during the whole playthrough
I just use proton experimental out of habit, there's probably no reason to force it
For sure, few games deliver the story in a similar fashion
Few crashes near the end when fighting a strider on a bridge in the citadel
If you like half-life it's decent
Right at the end game crashes if you save
You can get stuck on elevators after loading and on one occasion a door just didn't open (after the bomb scene).
I have only tested the single player. I've played through Reach, Halo 1, Halo 2, Halo 3 and half of ODST. No problems in any of the games. Rock solid 120fps all the time and stable frame times.
Appart from the final battle, of which I'm not sure if it's just a linux issue, the game ran perfectly.
Final battle ran at like 2fps
In this state it is unplayable, tried default proton and experimental, both are horrible
Flickering textures, missing textures in minimap
On my machine later monoliths run at like 15fps. Pretty much unplayable. GPU utilization is at 100% all the time, doesn't matter if it's the starting screen or actual gameplay.
I could not join games from steam chat requests. It would just boot the game to main menu. But hosting games worked just fine.
Lights tend to flicker, not sure if it's my monitors VRR flickering or some game bug
Taiga level runs like ass, from what I've read it's the same on all platforms
This game does not support cloud saves, you'll have to manually move them to other systems.
On the native version audio did not work at all, none of the workarounds worked. I'm using pipewire for audio.
Textures would bug out and lighting would flicker and bug out occasionally. Some of the texture bugs in the marshes were quite jarring.
Audio didn't work in the native version at all. None of the tweaks for SDL did anything.
Switching to full screen broke menus
I have proton experimental on just for testing, not because the game requires it.
You truly have to love, breath and shit survival games to like this.
No issues running on linux though.
Cloud saves from Windows don't work out of the box. They'll sync to wrong directory and the game won't find them. But you can just move them or symlink them and they work just fine. Remember to also copy over your custom AI directories and achievements, or else you'll get a lot of spam on the first load.
As stated before, windows saves are copied to the wrong directory on linux native version.
g-sync does not work when playing through proton
Still has the essential radio banter! If you loved Tribes it's the same old experience.
Played a few matches and no issues, given it's still alpha it works really well
Inventory would freeze for a few seconds while moving items. Happened once or twice during a session.
It's a great sequel to the franchise
Audio seems to break if you leave the game on the background for a long time. It'll fix itself eventually.
Sometimes textures would flicker
Some slowdowns during combat. But it's an Unity game, bad performance is a feature.
The issues I ran into we're rare. It's an awesome game, do try it.
It's a great game riddled with bugs. Some say the DLC is more stable, I haven't completed it yet but I would recommend starting from it.
This is not exclusive to Linux, Windows version runs poorly as well. Usually it stays over 100fps but it can dip to low 30's if you have a lot of destruction. All cutscenes run at 30fps. But given the graphical fidelity this game should run at like 300fps with my setup.
Windows has the same issues but this game will bug out after battles from time to time, you just have to restart them. It won't load the end of mission screen, you'll just see some corrupted scenes.
The final mission can bug out and you either have to try the final cutscene multiple times or wait like 10 minutes as it is loading even if it seems the screen is just black.
There can be a lot of flicker with the lightning in this game. It happens in cutscenes like the starting one and in some maps. I believe this is VRR flicker as turning on VSync eliminates it completely and I do recommend turning it on, it's that bad. This is the first time in my gaming career I've seen this.
It's xcom babyyy

Finished the game with War of the chosen. Play it from the start with the DLC enabled, do not start the original even if people recommend it. The original is buggy as heck, I had no issues with the DLC enabled. Playing the original will just make you rage quit due to constant crashing.
