Other than the cut-scene videos, everything seemed to work great out of the box.
The video cut-scenes still do not work, but can be easily by-passed.
Will freeze up after a few minutes unless you disable Esync. But with that fix in it runs great.
Initially ran with the 410.78 nVidia drivers and had the issue where people/animals weren't rendering. Updated to 415.27 and everything was fine.
Worked fine out-of-the-box. After some time there were a few very minor graphical abnormalities (arrow tracers not disappearing as quickly as expected for example), but nothing that impacted play. Did not experience the sound issue others reported earlier.
Had to use the -useembedded as launch option, otherwise you can't start a new game. But otherwise played for several hours without a flaw.
Enjoyable, other than the lack of video, and the game is not video-heavy.
As others have mentioned, the videos will not render. The audio for the videos as well as things like subtitles, etc still work fine. More an annoyance than anything else.
I used the winecfg tweaks from this Steam post https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1581453768
Specifically, to enable sound in winecfg:
Audio tab : change all audio inputs/outputs from Standard to pulseaudio Libraries tab : add overrides for xaudio2_6 and xaudio2_7 to native, builtin
Can be fixed easily enough with winecfg, but does not work out of the box.
A few of the textures would flicker in/out. They were minor, mostly around water reflections. More of an annoyance than a game-breaking issue.
Despite a solid 60+ fps, there were times where movement felt "jerky" and some mobs moved with such speed that it felt a little broken.
Ran nicely out-of-the-box. Even after adding a 15-divisions and several gigs of badges, game ran well.
Other than the input field issue, it runs like a native game. I played for ~8 hours straight without an issue.
Could not use input fields until I switched down to 8.0-2
Worked great out of the box.
I had one crash to desktop over a 3-4 hour session.
Out of the box ran great. Played for 5 hours straight without the slightest hiccup.
Note: if you don't want to use/link Guild Wars 2 to your Steam account, you will need to the launch parameter "-provider Portal" as others have mentioned.
There's a little bit of a stutter when bringing up the in-game PDA. But it doesn't impact gameplay, ,stability, etc. Just a very minor annoyance.
Works out of the box, mostly
Periodically Steam will start the game but it will not actually start, requiring you to kill the game and restart it.
It also is subject to some performance loss after several hours, though I gather that this is true running under Windows as well.
Everything worked right out of the box. Nearly 50 hours played and no issues. I have not tried any kind of multiplayer however.
Very minor clicking sound associated with some menus
Opening FMV only plays in upper 1/9th of the screen. Menus, etc start up fine. Game crashes to desktop when starting a new game.
Forced to use the most recent Experimental Proton as it was advertised to have Civ4 fixes. No other tinkering applied.
Was fun for the one play-through I could get through.
It took a number of tricks to get it installed, but once installed it worked fine. When I went to play it again, I couldn't get past the Login screen. If I uninstalled, reinstalled, I could play again... once. Subsequent play attempts would fail again at the login.
I tried with both the default Proton install and several of the previous, recommended versions.
Game ran great, easily as good as it runs on Windows. I do see about one CTD at a rate of about once/week, but I gather that's in line with Window's expectations too.
Could not run with current versions of Proton. Only worked when I rolled back to 5.13-6. But once I did, it ran perfectly.
Once you get past the initial setup it appears to run fine.
During the first run the app crashed while setting something up. After restarting it ran fine.
