Everything was smooth installing. Had to change MANGOHUD to MANGOHUD=1. Running games from an old windows pc perfectly.

Saves are not stored with Steam Cloud, just the config.
Sometimes runs out of video memory, probably not related to proton.

Game was stuttering after 40-60 minutes. LD_PRELOAD="" fixed the issue.
I recommend to use LD_PRELOAD="" if your game stutters after 40-60 mintues of gameplay.
All in all for most it will work out-of-the-box. Even heavily modded play works just fine.
While playing with Proton Experimental - there are significant loading issues even on SSDs, this has been mentioned in reports here before, but in my case I have fixed it just by switching from Proton Experimental to last stable version (9.0-6)
If zone loading issues or slowness is encountered - switch away from Experimental to the last stable version.
Occasional crackling, not necessarily noticeable
After a long play session (~3 hours) my game started lagging. Restarting the game fixed the issue though.
Sanity destroyer works
Tweak the controls, some game settings, and steam deck settings and it's as playable as any other CRPG on Steam deck
Made some changes that worked better for me personally. Mapped both camera movement and rotation to the joysticks, created a radial wheel for number keys and mapped it to the left touchpad.
Limited FPS to 30. Not sure how big a difference this makes. There's still odd laggy moments.
Text is pretty small. You can change that in the game settings but make it too big and it can get cut off

Did not launch initially after install. Got stuck on the steam loading screen. Launching the game in desktop mode seemed to fix this. Worked in gaming mode after that.
proton-cachyos is not a standard proton version but instead ships with CachyOS. Game worked fine on Experimental and GE-Proton as well.
Sometimes, when viewing the map, the mouse freezes, forcing to exit the game and reopen it. I'm not sure if this is an issue with the game itself or with Proton.
Loading new areas is very slow, with the game freezing while loading. Since the game itself recommends using an SSD, I imagine this is an optimization issue with the game and not a problem with Proton.
The game runs without any adjustments needed.

Steam cloud saves from previous platform were not available.
Had one crash where game simply closed.
Only one crash in hours of play so far but I am also using the [experimental] version of the game so if could be that. If you want your existing saves from a Windows platform you might need to manually copy those save files.

Sometimes the game won't launch and needs a steam reboot, but it's rare and fixes itself alone (might be related to a previous game crash, I don't remember).

This game was perfectly playable on my system. I just needed to lower the texture resolution and disable shadows to be able to get more than 30 fps. If you have a dedicated gpu this shouldnt be neccesary.

Crashes, though it is difficult to tell if it is Linux-related or just Kenshi being janky.
I'd argue it works as well as it does on a Windows machine, just using Proton Experimental (the Steam default compat. setting)
It worked flawlessly without any extra effort.
Very minor issues with alt-tabbing, but this game actually handled it WAY better than other ones on my computer. Had a crash or two in a blue moon, but this was likely unrelated to Proton and the result of Kenshi's inherent jank. Played for several dozens of hours without other issues.
stuck on "Running install script (Microsoft VC Redistributable)"
verifying game files causes it to be stuck on "Resetting install script." clearing download cache allows the game to be started but it stops shortly after and does not open a window
