Game became unplayable.
No any Proton can run it for me. Game starts and crashes at/after Asserts Loading stage. Some errors has test ASSESS VIOLATION EXCEPTION.
Trying to play with Proton 9.0-4/8.0-5/7.0-6/6.3-8.

Using GE-Proton, only Low Quality Profile and Low Texture Quality were available in the settings. The FPS dropped to 30 in the benchmark. Solution: Switch to Proton Experimental.
Works out of the box when using Proton Experimental. No FPS drop below 60 on Crazy Quality Profile using DX12.

/nolauncher
Switching to GE didn't help either with the audio

Playable, but constant audio crackling
Crackling Audio - PipeWire PA

I mainly use this game as a benchmarking and stress testing tool for my new PC builds and Overclocking tweaks. It works fine with Tweaks.
gamemoderun %command%
Initial booting of the game after switching to DX12 mode takes a long time. Be Patient. Once it loads the game is fine and will boot faster afterwards.
The Launcher menu does not render properly for me. It is basicly invisible. Using the "/nolauncher" tag in STEAM custom commands avoids issues with it.
If you are having trouble try using older Proton 6.3-8 and add "/nolauncher" steam command after gamemode command like this : gamemoderun %command% /nolauncher

Starts up perfectly. Ran on big picture mode 3400x1440p ultrawide resolution no problem.
gamemoderun %command% -dx12
With Tiling WM, moving between monitors in Fullscreen mode moves the window with it. Use Borderless Window mode instead.
Able to run at 2560x1440 with all settings maxed out.
Needed more buttons available
Text is too small
Setting options not being saved
No real tinkering, I just made it run with the current "Proton Experimental" compatibility layer.
cursor was not working properly on stock resolution, had to change to vulkan and safe mode to get display to work properly
To play, you must launch on safe mode and change from Direct X to Vulkan
Works good (20-25 fps FHD, DX11)
Played with Proton 6.3-8

Performance a bit off, possible audio issues (haven't checked multiple times), but other than that good out-of-the-box experience.
Audio wasn't working from the start for some reason and just after I've maxed out my volume it started (happy accident).
Runs at 3 FPS with DX11, crashes on startup with DX12 and Vulkan
FPS below 3 during gameplay

Works on Proton
I was able to play the game on Proton with DXVK (DX11) and VKD3D (DX12). Only when selecting Vulkan, the game will crash on launch.
Loaded up a skirmish with AI to just see how it runs and was surprised how smooth and good it looked.
Was able to get the initial menu ones...
if i dont add %command% --launcher-skip the game wont start. Otheriws ei can run it on video option Crazy.

Proton-5.11-GE-3-MF
Mouse pointer was in incorrect location. This was caused by initial game resolution being completely incorrect. Fix was to set the game resolution to match my monitor.
Last time I played the game on Windows, I had crashes to Desktop all the time. I didn't see a single crash when I played on Linux via Proton. Not sure if this is due to the game being updated since I last played it on Windows, due to Proton / Linux being more stable, or luck.

5.9-GE-8-ST GloriousEggroll
https://github.com/GloriousEggroll/proton-ge-custom
You have to use Glorious Eggroll's Proton. 5.9-GE-8-ST
worked for me, but for instance 5.21-GE-1
did not. More versions might work, but these are the only two I tested.
You must disable DirectX 12 (PROTON_NO_D3D12=1 %command%
) for the game to launch.

Tried a lot of different proton versions not working at all on the latest update .
when i do get the launcher and klik on play it just quits. With the /nolauncher option. Nothing at all happens.

Game installed fine. Game loads fine. Problem is mouse not working. Not sync correctly, cant access menu
Test with Proton Experimental and Proton 5.13-4
Works with Proton Experimental and latest nvidia vulkan Beta Drivers in dx12 mode.
On my GTX 1060 there isn't any major issues with performance or stability. On my older GPU GTX 750Ti I had a lot of issues.
Only in DX11 verison
It depends on GPU. Newer generations run vulkan version with good performance. Older GPUs are only able to run DX11 version that runs a lot slower.
Anti cheats are not allowing playing game in multiplayer mode.
Gameplay was flawless out of the box.
On first start, it hangs in the steam client. I had to reboot. Next time it started very well and I could play. Using "%command% /nolauncher" is usefull to get rid of this annoying launcher, but it's not necessarry.
Alt+Tab or the option to show benchmark scores crash the game.
Anytime something else grabbing focus, the game crash, if you stay in the game, and do not alt+tab, its mostly rock stable, till you do not change the graphics settings above High. Extreme and Crazy crash the game. (DX12-VKD3D)

5.9-GE-5-ST GloriousEggroll
Custom Launch options: VK_ICD_FILENAMES=/usr/share/vulkan/icd.d/radeon_icd.x86_64.json PROTON_USE_VKD3D=1 PROTON_USE_WINE_DXGI=1 PROTON_LOG=1 %command%
You will need to change the VK_ICD_FILENAMES to reflect your preferred Vulkan driver. The one above selects the default RADV driver for Radeon.
While it is possible to get AotS running with Proton-4.2 the performance of DX11 on Radeon is very poor. Using Proton-5.9-GE-5.ST, VKD3D and the DXI fix will result in much smooth gameplay, and you get a much better looking game into the bargain.
This method will allow you to select DirectX 12 and get the full performance this game is capable of. You may have to use Protontricks to set the WINE version to Windows 10, but I found it already set by GE Proton (I think).

The game will only work in PROTON 4.2-9
The first time i ran the game it got to the loading screen but never progressed so i exited the game and ran it again but in safe mode which ran perfect, i then exited and loaded the game again and it worked perfect.

Runs good but only with Proton 4.2 and /nolauncher
You have to use Proton 4.2 and set launch option "/nolauncher". Then fine
Changed AshesEscalation.exe into StardockLauncher.exe

It won't go out from the launcher
Doesn't start at all, Tried all proton versions but it wont't start from his launcher. Tried the /nolauncher option but it crashes immediately
Game does not start, no launcher appears
Only works with Proton 4.2-9; it crashes with any newer Proton version.
I was not able to get the Vulkan renderer working. When I try to start it with that enabled, I get the following error message: "Vulkan requires very recent video drivers. [...]"
runs good without any probs.I launched it with "/nolauncher" option to avoid a 2nd launcher
had to resize resolution to my screen
Had to resize the resolution to fit my screen one, otherwise the mouse cursor was inaccurate
The game would sometimes crash with esync/fsync enabled
Takes a while to start with esync/fsync disabled
The game can't launch in vulkan mode
Newer Proton versions don't work due to a regression

Played with Proton 4.2-9.
Not work with Proton 5.0-7, 4.11-13.
I disabled the game launcher changing the name file "StardockLauncher.exe" in "StardockLauncher.exe.old" and "AshesEscalation.exe" in "StardockLauncher.exe"
After this the game starts and i could run the benchmark without any problems!

Constant crackling.
If you're willing to play the game without any sound, the crackling may not be an issue for you.

Does not work, period.
The launcher may appear, but beyond that, nothing. The game will not start.

Did not work on Proton 5.0, worked flawlessly with /nolauncher
launch option on proton 4.2-9

Installed xact.
Not constant. Seems dependent on video settings.
Blue “unknown terrain” being extended to the edge of the window while panning. (No idea if this is DXVK-specific.)
