Anyone who can copy paste that little addition to the mentioned file can enjoy this game now.
As @neon said you have to add "hard nofile 524288" (without quotes) to etc/security/limits.conf. Ive tried it with Proton 5.13.2 and it runs nicely! Have played till lvl 16 without issues!
Fisrt started the game wiht the files what steam download, after i remembered it have a unofficial patch called Advent Revising v2 what adds a lot of cutscences from the xbox version, plus fix a lot of error, plus enables 16:9 screenratio for the game. Just copied over the files and since than i was playin and enjoyin that awesome music what the game have. Without troubles.
OOB the game time to times crashed with "General Protection Faults", after the unoddicial patch its runs smoothly.
The game need the Advent Revising Unofficial patchset, for quality of life improvements, its recommended, but the game itself run OOB.
Alt+Tab or the option to show benchmark scores crash the game.
Anytime something else grabbing focus, the game crash, if you stay in the game, and do not alt+tab, its mostly rock stable, till you do not change the graphics settings above High. Extreme and Crazy crash the game. (DX12-VKD3D)
After the initial few min of setup, with the correct proton flags, its running pretty much as it did ever.
Im using a custom proton, wine-tkg-git build, with wine-staging 5.6.
You definitelly need the 64bit binaries to start the game, otherwise its keep crashing, with renaming the original Bin32 to something else, and renaming the added Bin64 to Bin32 the game can be launched from steam with proton.
Experience: Its still Crysis, and while my computer isn`t melting, the game runs as it always run: "demanding". Since its only using 1 thread, the CPU cant strech its legs (cores), to feed the GPU, in some situation the FPS is still tanking pretty hard (multiple hostile enemy who actively shooting at you, you jumping around and trying to shoot back, hot situation).
The game still behaves as it always had. The same, like on windows.
Launch options: PROTON_LOG=1 ENABLE_DEVICE_CHOOSER_LAYER=1 VULKAN_DEVICE_INDEX=1 RADV_PERFTEST=aco PULSE_LATENCY_MSEC=60 mangohud MANGOHUD_PCI_DEV="0000:0b:00.0" PROTON_FORCE_LARGE_ADDRESS_AWARE=1 PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 WINEDLLOVERRIDES="xaudio2_7=b,n" %command%
device chooser: i have a dual GPU setup, and for that to run on the desired GPu i have to specify for vulkan on which device i want to run the game. vkdevicechooser is for that.
mangohud options: For monitoring, same stuff like msi afterburner hud ingame. MANGOHUD_PCI_DEV is to specify which GPU i want to monitor, the hud cant choose the correct gpu yet on which the game is rendered.
TK-Glithc Proton (5.10), Aco, VKDEVICECHOOSER, MangoHUD launch options, all for me, not neccessery for the game.
Switched from the default proton version to the latest, and added RADV_PERFTEST=aco %command% to launch option. Ingame set Render Api to Vulkan. 150-200+ FPS ingame.
Sometimes white squares appered on the ground texture. Im not sure, what causing it, maybe the git mesa.
Used steam launch options: MangoHUD, ACO, PROTON_LOG, VKDEVICECHOOSER The game starts and runs without any of these option, these are for me, for my pc and for my liking to check how things are running.
The game itsefl runs perfectly, OOB, the only problem i had was with steam itself. Wanted to download the macOS version, but for some reason couldnt do it all. So had to reboot to win, donwload it, backup it, then reboot into Manjaro, and restore it.
Bind ESC to button, without cant access Pause menu
bind ESC key to button
Graphics and shadiws to medium for more FPS
game doesn't see or accept controller menu button
After it started it gave me a blank screen. Did not tried to disable or override default proton settings.
The game is playable, with one clause: You cant join server with EAC on.
Because of EAC, the only way you can play this game is on servers where EAC is turned off.
Ive used nothing, not custom proton, not a single launch option (outside of whats specific to my system), it used to crash if you pushed the play button in game on the main menu, not anymore, it just cant connect to any server there where EAC is on (EAC timed out error). I consider this pretty much OOB in this situation.
Made sure Wine was updated to 4.0+ Made sure Winetricks was up-to-date Used python script provided @ https://github.com/Linux74656/SpaceEngineersLinuxPatches Plus i had to enable vsync to get rid of stutter, the game was running 100+ fps yet stuttering, with vsync, its running fix 60fps butter smooth.
Regularly crashes without error, its just crash, about after an hour of gameplay, but consistently. Alt-tabbing usually cant be achieved, the game forcing window focus.
For sure, use the above mentinoed script! Otherwise u will get a borked game!
When there is more sound sources, the audio starts to cracking up.
The game force focus on the game window.
Mouse is always forcefully paired to the game window.
After an hour of gameplay, its always crashing.
Without the mentioned script, the game have problem with the loading screen video, and its missing .NET while its there in the prefix.
Without the initial plus step of using the mentioned tool, the game crashing at startup. Typical gamer just would complain.
Ive used the tool from here: https://github.com/Linux74656/SpaceEngineersLinuxPatches to make the game start up and running. Without it, the game crash at loadingscreen. After running the tool its runs nicely. Playing Coop with my little brother who is still on windows, with some occasional bug (the game is in conflict with the way copy paste works in linux, after the first copy-paste it does not copying anything new, just keep pasting the first one, plus the game grabs focus, no matter what, and does not let alt+tab), my computer is the Host, its running nice and he is the one connecting via me inviting him into the gameworld (my pc is way more powerful then his).
The game grabs focus, and does not let alt+tab out of its window.
One small thing, but im not sure, if its linux related or proton related: cant use alt+f10 menu, the game for some reason does not react to that option. Have no idea why, and did not investigated it yet.
Very rarely, but the game crash. Did not investigated yet, why.
For me it was an Out of the Box experience, i had enjoyed to play it, havent encountered any issues so far.
After using the NOCD crecked exe and turn post processing off its runs perfectly fine in 4k.
