Due to how the game is distributed on Steam, to play the full version of Spore with all DLCs, you'll need to:
Link the other two games (DLCs) to the main game’s prefix (Spore - [17390])
cd "$STEAM_LIBRARY/steamapps/compatdata" mkdir -p 17390 ln -sf "$PWD/17390" 17440 ln -sf "$PWD/17390" 24720
Note: Replace
$STEAM_LIBRARY
with the path to your actual Steam library. For example:~/.steam/root/steamapps/compatdata
Install the games in the following order (don't launch):
- Spore (AppID: 17390)
- Spore: Creepy & Cute Parts Pack (AppID: 17440)
- Spore: Galactic Adventures (AppID: 24720)
Launch the game using the Spore: Galactic Adventures entry in your Steam library.
Log in with your EA account credentials when prompted.
Note: If you don’t already own Spore (and its DLCs) on your EA account, you may need to contact EA Support and ask them to link your Steam purchases to your EA account.

If you've been wondering how a game like Spore might translate to Steam Deck, it actually works really well! With the official layout given by default everything feels incredibly smooth and intuitive

Läuft besser als auf Windows
Kann auch durch neue Hardware kommen.
Es stürtzt seltener ab als auf Windows...
Everything works even online functionality

Keeps throwing errors 1004 and 2000
Keeps throwing errors 1004 and 2000

Spode would be pleased!
works out of the box :)

Everything I had to do was to switch my Proton version to 7.0-6, but I have to do that for every game anyway.
The game itself works!
I was even able to install the 4gb patch (although I never checked if it actually worked, I suppose it did) And I was even able to somehow install some mods. Both .package and .sporemod ones All on my Linux system :)

PROTON_SET_GAME_DRIVE=1 %command%
change version of proton to 5.13-6
go to the reg config file (home/.steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata/24720/pfx/system.reg)
edit it with any text editor
insert this anywhere in an empty space

copy DataEP1 to Data (inside spore's local files) majority of the tinkering was a result of another post, from Nozdormus. i simply modified it and it worked for me.
works the same on Steam Deck as it does on Arch Linux/Manjaro

As long as you don't mind online features and gallery, you'll enjoy the game. You should buy this game on EA instead.
%command% -locale:th-th
Install Thai language pack.
DO NOT buy the game on Steam, especially if you wanted to use online features (Sporepedia), since Steam server has been shut down very long time ago. I resulted buying this game twice to grant myself legitimate access into the server.

I love this game. And i was really happy when it ran on linux out of the box! No preparations needed to play this game. I can connect to the spore servers and browse sporepedia. I can play and download community adventures and creatures. Works perfectly.

Doesn't start
Three alerts pop-up and then the game just crashes.

Solution for Linux Mint 20 found! How to launch Spore: Galactic Adventures on Linux Mint 20
The solution for running Spore: Galactic Adventures was finally found thanks to a kind stranger who shared it on Spore on GitHub!
To run Spore: Galactic Adventures on Linux Mint 20, follow these steps:
- First make Spore: Galactic Adventures run with Proton 5.13-6;
- Now go this path:
~/.steam/debian-installation/steamapps/compatdata/24720/pfx/
- Open system.reg
- Just place the following lines in that file (anywhere between other stacks of lines that you're going to find there):
[Software\\Wow6432Node\\electronic arts\\spore] 1627191375
#time=1d78116fc363040
"appdir"="Spore"
"datadir"="Z:\\home\\bighugemister\\.steam\\debian-installation\\steamapps\\common\\Spore\\Data"
"installcompleted"=dword:00000001
"installloc"="Z:\\home\\bighugemister\\.steam\\debian-installation\\steamapps\\common\\Spore"
"locale"="en-us"
"playerdir"="My Spore Creations"
"reindexyesorno"=dword:00000000
- Now paste these lines as well:
[Software\\Wow6432Node\\electronic arts\\SPORE_EP1] 1240428288
#time=000000000
"AddOnID"=dword:00000002
"DataDir"="Z:\\home\\bighugemister\\.steam\\debian-installation\\steamapps\\common\\Spore\\Data"
"PackID"=dword:28448390
- Replace YOUR_USERNAME with your username.
- Now go this path:
~/.steam/debian-installation/steamapps/common/Spore/DataEP1/
- Copy all of the files and then paste them in
~/.steam/debian-installation/steamapps/common/Spore/Data/
This is it! And if you've got trouble with running Spore on Linux, please refer to Spore on GitHub. I did, and I got the solution!
Softlocks cause game to be unplayable past critical points of the game.
World generation causes soft locks.
World generation causes species spawn to be clustered to initial spawn area. Plant food spawns does not spawn.
Lack of food nodes cause tribal stage to become unplayable as herbivore.

Unplayable on Linux Mint 20.1!
Ladies and gentlemen, this is terrible! My OS is Linux Mint 20.1 and this game doesn't seem to set up files properly or something, which makes it unable to play this game because every time you launch this DLC, it launches the original Spore instead. Let alone the 1004 and 2000 errors that you will have to encounter before you even get to the start of the problem.
Due to my report being too long for ProtonDB to accept, I have posted my full report on Steam Discussions: https://steamcommunity.com/app/24720/discussions/0/5005182950316001925/
You will find it useful if you encounter several issues I encountered.
Works perfect out of the box
Connects to Spore servers flawlessly. Adventures work without a problem.
Se puede jugar perfectamente, lo mismo que en Windows.

Errors 1004 and 2000 together, one after another. Never experienced them on Windows.
(>_<)
Same problems I experience on Windows, so I see no issue.
Shadows and highlights are frequently flipped. Only noticeable during creature stage.
Occasionally crashes when alt-tabbing.
Mods are a real pain, but can be done.
For me it was an Out of the Box experience, i had enjoyed to play it, havent encountered any issues so far.

After all my workarounds, the game runs flawlessly.
Texture issues are resolved by degrading to Proton 4.11-13. Otherwise, they make the game unplayable.
Tabbing out freezes the game. I recommend setting to Windowed Mode first time you launch.
Crashes about every 3 hours.
Works without any issues, runs well, no problems to speak of.

5.9-GE-5-ST GloriousEggroll
Works flawlessly on normal proton, however I did use the GE fork.
On older proton versions, I had issues with the main galaxy menu being really messed up. I have not had this issue since switching to Proton GE.
This is not exclusive to Proton, but Steam will give you a CD key. In order to access the game's online content, register that CD key on Origin, then make a Spore account from in game.
Perfect experience, no issues whatsoever
Alt-Tab, as always, does not work
Seems to work well without issues others have
I don't think ModAPI Loader is works in Wine, at least on Steam. The project does recommend using the Origin or GoG releases and would probably be best to get those versions if you want those mods
Basic package mods work perfectly, 60+ fps hack works well, no bugs noticed that aren't a part of the game. World generation is functional, although I've only played creature and space stages.
Performance seems about what I expect for Spore on Windows, Proton 5.0 uses DXVK for all applicable games so no WineD3D slowdowns
Crashes and broken world generation.
I played it up to the end of animal stage. On the animal stage it crashes sometimes. Annoying.
World generation is completely broken. Check this tweet for screenshots: https://twitter.com/Azarilh/status/1213250184840450050
Can't install some mods like the Dark Injection (which i recommend), but HD retextures are installable.

Game runs well in general, but planet generation is broken(no plants, things spawning under water, etc.). Loading stage 4 crashes and the stage 5 tutorial is skipped, not giving me the scanner necessary to advance.

Planet generation is broken, creating strange glitches I have never seen before. Playing past the Space State tutorial is impossible, as an object you must scan spawns underwater.
Shame, too, I forgot how much fun this game was.

Works

Planet generator is terribly broken (upstream Wine problem), resulting near to unplayable stages after 1.

Constant crashes during tribal stage making it unplayable, minor graphical glitches

No problems
