The fun of this game comes from the multiplayer. Offline bot games are fun but are not what this game is about.
Overall, works great for 30 minutes at a time. After that simply reload the game and you're back to playing.
The fullscreen issue was easily fixed by setting a custom fullscreen resolution.
After playing for about 30 minutes, the game will suddenly experience massive performance drops. However, for the first ~30 minutes per session, it runs flawlessly.
As stated before, after 30 minutes of playing per session, there are immediate and significant performance issues.

Works flawlessly on normal proton, however I did use the GE fork.
On older proton versions, I had issues with the main galaxy menu being really messed up. I have not had this issue since switching to Proton GE.
This is not exclusive to Proton, but Steam will give you a CD key. In order to access the game's online content, register that CD key on Origin, then make a Spore account from in game.
