After the invisible trees-issue,, not fun
Trees vanishing when up close or far away (not a draw distance issue)
The performance issues make playing real hard.
Quite frequent and heavy stuttering and momentary graphics stoppages.
Starting the game takes a good while.
PROTON_USE_WINED3D11=1 %command%
Occasionally, at max zoom out, the world disappears for a split second, leaving only the skybox visible.
A lot better experience than a year ago (was totally borked back then). This time around, with just the launch options, I got heavy performance stuttering during autosaves and some audio crackle. With just GE, the game wouldn't get past loading a save game, hard crashing the system. Used both and no issues what so ever.
Almost perfect, no achieves
This seems to be one of those games that can't unlock achievements on Linux.
Works out of the box
Occasional mild crackling
2 years ago, this game was totally borked for me. Nice to see advancement advances.
After a few seconds from pressing "play" the game exits
No errors, no anything. Steam's launch button just turns into blue "running" and then back to green "play" after a few seconds.
Works out of the box
Desktop notifications sometimes cause a small graphical "blink" to happen when they arrive on the background. Nothing major, just a small flash of weird pixels less than half a second long.
No major issues.
Some areas have glitches, like extremely bright light or lens flares. They also often appear on the small transmission projection when a message arrives.
Some loading times are noticeably longer than on Windows
Crashes are very frequent if experimental Proton is not used
Remember to save and occasional crashes shouldn't be an issue.
Has crashed twice while just walking in the 3h I've played this on Linux.
Works well, without issues. Just Install and play.
While the game autosaves at the beginning of a briefing, there's a while when everything freezes, but then it continues without a problem.
Complains about not recognizing my GPU (I think it's too new for a 2013 game), but this doesn't lead to issues.
Works fine despite not opening achievements
I've noticed it's a problem with a few games, that the achievements do not unlock on Proton. This is one of those games. Otherwise the game has no problems.
No probs, works out of the box
During long sessions on the same map, the performance steadily degrades over time.
Some screen tear but it doesn't really break the gameplay.
Some screen tearing
A few stutters. I think 5-6 is the exact number.
Same as on Windows. Normal Bethesda bugginess.
Had to enable xact and xact_x64 via Protontricks to get npc voices and music to work.
npc voices and music were missing without the Protontricks tinkering mentioned.
Slight performance issues, otherwise good to go.
Occasional noticeable FPS drops while there were none on Windows
Allowing Steam to process Vulkan shaders first had a noticeable improvement in performance.
Has become surprisingly easy after my last attempt. Works.
Occasional light stutter when moving into a new area.
Launching game is really slow
Works easily. Install and play.
Occasionally with heavy effects and hordes on screen, there is a slight slowdown that doesn't happen on Windows.
Some slight slowness but works out of the box.
In addition to some unexpected slowdowns in situations with heavy action, the loading times are considerably longer compared to Windows 10. Occasionally I had to wait for 4 mins to get the loading screen to appear when starting the game. Missions have loaded reasonably fast but still slower than on Windows 10.
Lacks music, had to mute sfx, but I had a good time.
Music is missing. Other audio got distorted and "squealy" in a recent patch of the game.
PROTON_USE_WINED3D11=1 %command%
I installed xact_x64-MS XACT Engine
Without forcing experimental and the launch option PROTON_USE_WINED3D11=1 %command% game would crash when it was creating cities while creating a random map if both cities and roads were to be included.
Without XACT the game lacked music and SFX went haywire quite often.
PROTON_USE_WINED3D11=1 gamemoderun %command%
installed xact_x64 to fix sound glitching on Win 7 launch. Does not help with sounds on Win8.1/Win 10 launches, however.
On Win 7 launch with protontricking xact_x64 in: no problems. Win 8.1/Win 10 launch still suffers from sounds being like the scream of the damned once unpaused.
FPS is a bit low but nothing major
Without the launch option PROTON_USE_WINED3D11=1 %command% the game does not load a save or start a new game succesfully. Without gamemoderun only Win 7 launch works so you'll have to install gamemode.
After a few setting modifications, works just great.
FPS in the low 20s when moving mouse fast. Dropping polling to 500 didn't help, but alt-tabbing a few times did make the game run as smooth as in Windows.
Using Proton Experimental, the game crashed every time I tried to enter the Codex. Forcing Proton 6.3-8 Solved the issue.
