Starts with no problem but when launching save the game crashes
Ran out of the box, has the normal performance issues that comes with a city builder in late game.

Changed Cities.x64 -> Cities_Loader.sh in launcher-settings.json for Patch Loader Mod.
Skyve can be made work by running it with Lutris and Wine-GE:
- Install Skyve and its dependencies
- Start Cities: Skylines
- Click on the "SKYVE" button to open the executable's directory and save the executable's path for later
- Close Cities: Skylines
- Lutris > Plus in top-left corner > "Add locally installed game"
- Game info > Name: Cities: Skylines Skyve
- Game info > Runner: Wine (Runs Windows games)
- Game Options > Executable: Skyve.exe's path
- Game Options > Working directory: Skyve.exe's parent directory's path
- Game Options > Wine prefix: Make a directory. E.g. ~/Games/CitiesSkylinesSkyveWineprefix
- Make sure Runner options > Wine version is set to Wine-GE
- Optionally disable some unnecessary additional options (like anticheats or DXVK) in Runner options
- Launch Skyve!
As some other answers have stated, you might have to add SDL_VIDEODRIVER=x11
to your launch options if you set SDL_VIDEODRIVER=wayland
somewhere else (e.g. window manager/compositor config). That configuration option breaks apps with old SDL versions like Source games. I don't set SDL_VIDEODRIVER=wayland
so I don't have to think about this.

gamemoderun ./Cities_Loader.sh; echo "%command%"
Running using performance mods and patch loader.
Game is slow, but it's probably faster than proton.

Mods are too important to this game for a native version to not support them, which is game ruining.
Mods do not play nice with the Native Linux version of Cities Skylines, which is devastating for a game where mods are as essential as Cities Skylines. Good luck creating a new save, much less opening an old one. The game window will often close, but remain running in the background.
just performance drop, connected with slow hardware

The native build errored out with 134 on every startup

Suprisingly works on native!
Mods work fine, gameplay is good and there is no tinkering that had to be made, I'm suprised!

gamemoderun %command%
works as it should no issues

Native worked as expected.
Changing the options to windowed mode created issues with maximizing and detecting my primary monitor on my window manager.
Experienced lesser preformance and input issues playing with Proton. Native is the way to go for me atleast.

The native version was unstable for me. Play using proton for a much smoother experience
Native runs fine so far
Forced use of most recent Proton (9.0-4) to run the Windows version. (The native version ran out of memory after a few minutes of gameplay and crashed.)

SDL_VIDEODRIVER=x11 MANGOHUD=0 gamemoderun %command%
SDL_VIDEODRIVER=x11 MANGOHUD=0 gamemoderun %command%
Need to force SDL to use X11 driver if using Wayland, otherwise the launcher will report error 134. Otherwise works without issue.
Works fine out of the box
Works without any issues

I initially tried to play the native version but it refused to acknoledge my dedicated gpus exsistence. Switched to proton and that fixed it
ran perfectly both native and proton, despite the gpu issue.

Unable to start game, launcher works fine
Cant start the game, the launcher works but when i try to play it it gives me an exit code 134

Works out of the box, great performance.
Installing via steam makes it easy to enjoy the game

The game would crash when loading a savefile or new game. I fixed this by increasing the swapfile size to 16 GB. The game works fine now.

Installed on Steam, clicked play and it worked, it even auto logged me in their launcher, no performance degradation noticed

Could not load launcher on Windows, even after reinstalling the whole game. On Linux it runs at first launch.
Installed patch loader mod and some others.
Cross - device saves doesn't work.
Loading cross-device saves even if it works is a tricky process.

The game kept crashing while I was loading it
I suspect that it's the low amount of RAM (8 GB DDR4). It has worked on this very laptop before, but back then I had designated some swap space so maybe try that. It worked on Windows 10, so it might be a Linux issue

The game runs 100%. Although, it did prompt me to update the launcher (in-game prompt - not via Steam). After updating, it wouldn't launch. I simply had to reinstall it.

Installed some gameplay improving mods.
Nothing else.

Works well with and without mods/assets. FYI: FPS booster requires a little setup in the game data folder and needs the patch loader mod.

Always enjoyed this game, once I started playing on PopOS, it was a flawless transition. Great game and runs perfect on PopOS.
I have observed tearing, specifically around football stadiums.
No tinkering needed.

This game works just as good as Windows when playing, however in the menu, the games stutters for no reason. Doesn't disturb gameplay
Game stutters on the menu
Playable

Surprisingly runs better than on Windows. Great experience and no major problems. !!My launch options only apply when using FPS Booster!!
gamemoderun <path to your steam library>/steamapps/common/Cities_Skylines/Cities_Loader.sh; echo "%command%"
I'm using "FPS Booster" and "Loading Screen Mod Revisited" mods from the workshop to improve performance, I highly recommend to use them. You can skip the "Patch Loader Mod Installation Guide" of the FPS Booster mod with my launch options, as it uses the mod's loading script directly and even bypasses the Paradox Launcher. I also have V-Sync disabled in game.

eval $( echo "env LD_PRELOAD="" gamescope -W 1920 -H 1080 -f -- %command%" | sed 's/dowser/Cities.x64/g' )
some problems with alt-tabbing, so i used gamescope
works great, but i have need of gamescope as game have some issues with alt-tabbing, overall performance is good even without gamescope
