often stuck in 60-90 fps. I just solved it by dropping down Shadow Quality from "Highest" into "Medium"
I wonder if HPL3 Engine is bit grumpy mess. It had really poor framerate on my Rig. That said, the issue I mentioned has nothing to do with Proton itself. (Switching between Proton Experimental and Proton GE fixed nothing)
Reinstalling the Steam from Arch Linux package, and installing from it.
When I played Amnesia: The Bunker under Flatpak installed Steam, the framerate was debastatingly bad, but after I reinstalled Steam itself from Arch Linux package, and reinstalled the game, framerate has been improved dramatically.
It sounds like a very stupid thing that I should realize faster, but yeah. I'm warned to fellow Linux noobs Unless specific circum stance; DON'T INSTALL STEAM FROM FLATPAK.
Why Apex Legends is still in Gold Status
Please update the info ProtonDB, also lazy ass Respawn Entertaiment deserved be kicked in testicles for being lazy to support Linux and not releasing good product for last 5 years
(ALVR, Quest 3) works okay out of the box.
haevy artifacts, fixed by restarting a ALVR.
the peformance is dissapointing for RX 9070 XT. only 45 fps. fails to reach a 90fps. AV1 Encorded.
and gosh, in retrospective view of 2025, the Boneworks really aged like milk, isn't it? with fiddly combat, awkward physics, and what a janky mess. not that worth playing in 2025 imo
Probably Flatpak Heroic Launcher thingy or something, but I couldn't made this work until I put the game file into Desktop file, simply under Home file doesn't make it work. The same story applies to A Postcard from Aftonia by Jonas Kyratzes.
Oh yeah the Alpha Demo, as far as game goes, it is sucks. Wait for release product. until then, (and if release product ended up lame too,) better spend other better boss rush games such as Furi or Judero.
The color is super washed out.
Side note, since I was playing with Quest 2 through ALVR I set SteamVR booting option a following:
"DRI_PRIME=1 /home/deadruins/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/common/SteamVR/bin/vrmonitor.sh %command%"
Lighting glitch in Chapter 5 at Proton 8.0.5, Heavy graphical artifact at Proton 9.0-2, could be fixed by switching into Native version
Activating Steam Input.
On Native version, can be happen minor several performance drop at specific chapter.
Maybe Nvidia GPU Driver issue, considering most of other player and Steam Deck have no issue. F- you Nvidia.
Minor missing font at Japanese. otherwise, works great.
some Japanese Text font are missing, replaced the font with cube. not sure this game itself's issue, or Proton's issue. the changing Proton version from "Proton Experimental" to "GE-Proton10-3" doesn't affect at all.
very minor issue for certain point, kind of immersion breaking.
The missing japanese font is disappointing, but English people should be able enjoy this game with no issue. Citizen Sleeper 2 (currently English-only at time of writing) doesn't have same issue.
(Steam Next Fest Demo) The Proton Compatibility is bit broken, but still playalbe
Mangohud scaled poorly
Resolution beyond 1080p are unsupported
Keyboard Japanese Input (Fcitx5) on Wayland is broken
It works, but not very well. Some might find very disorienting experience.
Runs pretty well
V-Sync was broken.
Fps lock from Console Command would be required for V-Sync Enjoyer.
PROTON_USE_WINED3D11=1 %command%
Piss Poor Peformance. Heavy Stutter when objects in screen gets cluttered. like Late Games like Underwater in Normal Mode and Hard Mode in general.
It's shame 'cos the game kicks arse. Since other people have no issue, maybe my Nvidia Driver decides to fucking me up.
With Radeon Driver, The Game is perfectly playable.
Don't play this game on Nvidia GPU, It'll sucks.
"Would a typical gamer enjoy playing this game on Linux as you've played it?" I mean, It works just as atrocious as Windows does.
Switched to Experimental, Switched to 6.3-8 later to fix Texture Bug, and switched back to Experimental after It confirmed that It didn't helped.
Texture is bugged out and blacked out. This issue happens on Windows too regardless of setting.
Texture is generally bugged out. anything close to camera seems to be disappear.
I gave thumb up as Proton Compatibility, the texture doesn't works well regardless on my PC's setup, so yeah.
(Heroic Launcher, GOG Release) Runs fine, but Game's icon's color messed up.
Installing Microsoft C++ 2022's DLL
game's exe icon's color pallet gets wrong, look messed up. Not affect gameplay, but very bizzare bug.
and I've never seen a game that gets noy bugged out only .exe's icon at linux
Runs much worse than Portal RTX
Constant Stuttering
The fps just going hopping between 20fps to 90fps with 7900 XTX at TAA: Peformance 1440p Setting on top of constant stuttering (not sure its Proton caused issue).
Just feels nausiating and feels much worse experience than Portal RTX.
Perfect Out of box experience
What more I can say? I wish Tango/KRAFTON adds native Linux support to Hi-Fi Rush or sequel of this just to give some middlefinger towards Microsoft.
Depends on Steam/Linux, language configuration, playablity varies.
There's significant delay of graphical setting
Japanese Input (Fictix5) is not working, Probably due to the installed Steam through Flatpak. Might reinstall Steam, or restart the game on X11 Session instead of Wayland Session to fix this.
GUIs are unresponsible
Myself (Japanese) wasn't that comfortable experience. Still, game does work. Might plays better on English.
日本語ではプレイがしんどかった。Fictix5はWayland Session下、どうじにSteamをFlatpakを通してインストールした場合困るかもしれない。
Already tested demo for a hour, Works pretty well.
It seems that there was a bug about pre-rendered movie (which might be a wrong word for this game, since It's record of real-life) that won't play properly, but It seems now fixed.
Works pretty Well.
It's pretty good, Works fine
Sounds of falling Rock is little bit cracking, bit distracting.
Some tearing of graphics, using Fps lock instead of V-Sync fixed the issue.
But before buy it, test with Demo verison.
Using Gamescope is recommended for bigger monitor setup, and want to play on Windowed (1440p / 4K Monitor)
gamescope -W 1600 -H 900 -- %command%
Added R18 patch from itchio
The game works without Gamescope if you're fine with stucked in Full Screen. Mind you, "gamescope -W 1920 -H 1080 -- %command%" for 1080p. Recommend checking Arch Linux Wiki for more details about Gamescope.
SteamDeck=1 %command%
The Publisher's higher-up who demands block average linux setup outside of Steam Deck from their online games for no reason deserved to be kicked into bollocks tbh
The game (Public Beta State) is broken currently.
AMD_VULKAN_ICD=RADV PROTON_NO_FSYNC=1 vblank_mode=0 gamemoderun %command%
the game stays on black screen, it renders nothing. even switching Windowed and Borderless Window doesn't help at all.
some small noise
Quite significant stutter, reduced by running with ProtonGE.
Default Proton was frozen in middle of the benchmark and unable to finish. I was able to do so with ProtonGE.
Previous Beta wasn't flatout worked at all (fails to render ANYTHING in my setup) so It's better than previously.
I've got score of 25294 (74.37 fps Average) with 1440p Max setting (with any form of Anti-Aliasing Off), which is not great for 2022 1000 usd GPU's peformance but I guess it's tolorable then. Might okay if you can tolorate some stutters. and maybe finished product stutters lot less, and potentially this benchmark is using some extreme scenario.
There's a bit issue with mouse cursor GUI, but other than that, absolutely fantastic game
Mouse Cursor in GUI is not appearing sometimes, ProtonGE handled better... I guess.
While I recommend using ProtonGE, to better I'm not sure if the mouse cursor disappearing thing is original Proton specific thing. 'cos GE happens too, just treats better.
Whatever, if you're on controller, you likely to not encounter this issue.
Great out of the book experience.
Used Xbox Series X Controller and Keyboard and Mouse to play the game. It works with no issue.
Texts are out from text box, and unreadable.
Considering Text is unreadable in here, which is selling point of this. Not recommend play this over other free platformer such as SuperTux.
Using Gamescope session with "gamescope -W 1600 -H 900 -- %command%" doesn't help too.
gamescope -W 1600 -H 900 -- %command%
Text gets out of the box.
The text still gets out of the box, which is, the writing is one of the selling point of this game, makes the game unenjoyable.
The Japanese Font were missing, fixed by forcing to run with Proton Experimental.
Cloud Save has borked
This tinker step was mainly for Japanese. Might different if you're ran this game on English or any other language.
日本語で標準設定でロードしようとするとフォントが豆腐になってプレイできなくなります。Proton Experimentalに設定すれば問題なく動く。
The Game is playable... if you have 7900 XTX.
Font seems to be borked
Since Nvidia drivers in Linux generally sucking ass, (Wayland session is not very good) AMD Cards are generally only considerable gpu in Linux, but this game is meant to be played on RTX Cards, so unless you have a really good AMD Cards like 7900 XTX.
1440p TAA-Quality with low setting to achive 30-20 fps, with TAA-Peformance Mode, 60 fps.
Not good for 1000 usd GPU's peformance, but playable.
It works well.
Cloud save is unsupported.
V-Sync is just as broken as many other Proton running games (Hi-Fi Rush, Talos Principle 2, and so on.) I wonder if this was Linux issue in general.
Almost no issue. If you love treversal forcused actgion games and crude artstyle, you can enjoy this. even the game has suffers from dodgy design
FSR3 is poorly implemented, especially Frame Gen.
FSR3 is currently broken, it'll break further if you use FSR FrameGen, it's completely broken. as such, I don't recommend using FSR. Truth be told, the game peforms very poorly across the board with my 7900 XTX setup. hovering around 40 fps.
And "running poorly" I mean Especially compared to other UE5 games like The Talos Principle 2, which peformed like 120fps w/ 1440p High Setting, and looked really good.
But whatever, it's 10 minutes demo. It hardly matters and they'll fix it in actual release.
Noticiable performance drop on Nvidia Hardwares?
In Windows, I managed to run at rock solid 1440p 144fps, but in Linux, I experienced several performance drop goes down to 70-100 fps.
Since only used 40-50% of GPU utilization, Maybe the game or Proton is poorly utilized in this specific game.
While my setup had no issues, PCs with weaker Nvidia GPU (GTX 750Ti, 1030, 1630) might struggle to run this game.
Used Japanese Mod
The Japanese Mod in Question: https://www.mediafire.com/file/c2abit0wlxditj0/SOMA_Jpn_230107.zip/file
I tried running through Proton too in Kubuntu during my distro hopping before I settled down with current EndeavourOS (blimey this distro is awkward to spell), but that Kubuntu setup has some issues with GUI and Physics, but that setup seems to be has several bugs in generally, especially at processing at Wine, so yeah.
(Steam Next Fest Demo) Works out of the box
The game works fine. There's no missing font or graphics issues or whats so ever. It's fine. idk.
Forcing running on Proton
The Native version of Spec Ops: The Line doesn't save Graphical Option Settings. Just use Windows version via Proton instead of Native Linux Build.
Fixed by Proton.
Shame this game gets delisted. Since this was one of the best game I've ever played in my life. The story is not as good as The Talos Principle 2's, but absolutely fantastic game that lives rent free in my head.
The game supports only few Windowed Resolution. Not Proton's issue.
Constant Stuttering
The Game is kind of mixed bag experience with Linux. Proton 9.0.1 is generally runs horribly. Especially given my PC's Spec.
Near Perfect Linux Port
It works really well with zero peformance issue. Everything works pretty fine. 144 fps with zero slowdown.
Shame game itself is really bloody boring tho. get Talos Principle instead
(Heroic Launcher/Epic Game Store Review) Installed from Heroic EGS, worked by installing Visual C++ Runtime
installing a Visual C++ Runtime 2022
Without Visual C++ Runtime, the game refuse to boot. mess around with Winetrick is required. Also, I made mistake, I used Wine - Wine-GE-Proton8-26, actually.
editing the file from "goggame-1644916113.info" to "ja-JP"
the Translation was broken changed the goggame-1644916113.info to be "ja-JP" "Japanese"
Didn't much difference in the end
Needs several tweaks to English texts to be correctly displayed.
Other than that, the game is really mediocre rogue-lite Metroidvania with the most boring guns and dodge move imaginable with too strong post-process effect and poorly designed pixel art that makes hard to distinguish background object and enemy. Play Nine Sols or Blaster Master Zero instead.
Also the game is propaganda game of its worst kind that strongly racist towards black people, and supporting the idea of discriminating the LGBTQ+ people.
this is really reminds me of Extra Credit's episode of "Propaganda Game". It's decade old video, but the point of it still apply in this propaganda game.
To quote from its video, "it's one of the most pathetic repugnant displays of maldirected hate" https://youtu.be/UP4_bMhZ4gA?si=46g9HmDvIgBpw5y2
Reinstalling the game from Arch Linux package Steam instead of installing it from Flatpak Steam.
Audio was borked when game is installed under Flatpak install of Steam, when the game was installed under Arch Linux package install of Steam has no issue.
I know it's getting confusing including myself who writing this.
There's some workaround for Flatpak installed steam when Audio was totally missing too. Seems copy the file with terminal do justice. for detail, I'd recommend check out other people's report in here.
For some reason, in Windows 11, Full Screen Mode doesn't go full screen properly, but Linux through Proton environment, it works fine.
The game runs better on Linux, thanks to Full Screen Mode being working. In my 1440p monitor, texts stucked in 640x480 was really pain in my ass to read.
It's fine. good game too.
The game runs with no issue. It runs with absolute out of the box.
(Steam Next Fest Demo) Works out of the box (ROG Ally)
The game works fine on my ROG Ally Z1 Extreme with Bazzite on it. 1440p, Low Setting with Mid Texture, FSR Balanced to achive 30fps. It's okay I guess.
I think my 7900 XTX main PC works better, but I can't access right now.
(Steam Next Fest Demo) There's minor issue with 7900 XTX setup
The Sea on Custom Level looks bit flickerling with black.
The Sea Will Claim Everything... sorry.
The Game is really demanding on my 7900 XTX once changed the setting to higher than one I used on my ROG Ally. It's playable, but not as pretty as Talos Principle 2.
I guess there's so little it could have done to improve the graphics when the orginal already looks pretty.
hedious flickerling.
Fixed by updating the system by "sudo pacman -Syu"
Not sure I would recommend over original to be honest. Graphics upgrades are rather bit too subtle, when the original looks still good.
Only get this version if your language didn't had Road to Gehenna translation.
Heavy geometry artifacts flying across the screen, drags int othe centor.
Turning off the Gemoetory Detail onto "Lowest", solved the issue.
Since I'm using RX 9070 XT onto cheap crappy aging Motherboard, and due to lack of Resizeable Bar, or just purely immature support of Mesa/RADV for 9070 XT causing the issue on mine.
(ALVR, Quest 3, USB Wired) It works out of the box!
The game works damn well. If there's something worng with it, then I recommend check out the config on ALVR to tweak for your needs
Runs well on my Linux Mint VMWare machine running on Windows 11.
Used VMWare. VMWare itself runs poorly in general but this runs okay-ish. I used Nvidia RTX 2070 Super btw. It didn't registered well.
(Steam Next Fest Demo) Functions as the dev intended. It works.
The "save photo" at the end of the game is broken at Linux
The game runs okay, except the beginning that reaches like 3000 fps and really goes loud. after "Made in Unity" thing, the V-Sync properly kicks in, and it gets okay. (around 100 fps)
and end game's take picture is bit broken on Linux, but yeah, It's perfectly playable if you ask me. Side Note: "Against The Wall" perk is absolute OP
