The game only started after I added <DirectXVersion>9</DirectXVersion>
to the Engine.ini
file, but then I only got a black screen with the game sounds and the game-rendered mouse.
There's a problem with the DirectX installation, to make the game to work at all you'll need to run the file located at ~/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/common/Dawn\ of\ Discovery/DirectX/DXSETUP.exe through wine in the game's wineprefix. There's also a memory problem, but that affects Windows too, the best approach is to find a patch on the internet that makes the game executable able to use more than 2GB of RAM; otherwise the game will spam alerts about lack of memory and will eventually crash.
You might need a beefier hardware to overcome the FPS drops
The middle mouse button click and drag, used to pan the camera, only works under Xorg, it won't work under Xwayland
I get frequent FPS drops, going as low as 15 FPS at times
5.5-GE-1 GloriousEggroll
Install dotnet472 and vcrun2019
It's a roller coaster, sometimes it'll crash a lot, other times it might play fine
Enabling fsync made all the difference 99% of the crashes were gone and the save times also got a lot quicker, from 1 min to about 10 secs
5.5-GE-1 GloriousEggroll
Enabled fsync, bypassed the game launcher
The save times were a tad bit long, hovering between 5 and 15 seconds
To bypass the launcher, add the following to the steam launch options: echo %command% && exec $HOME/.local/share/Steam/compatibilitytools.d/Proton-5.5-GE-1/proton waitforexitandrun "$HOME/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/common/Mount & Blade II Bannerlord/bin/Win64_Shipping_Client/Bannerlord.Native.exe" MODULESNativeSandBoxCoreCustomBattleSandboxStoryModeMODULES
That is, if you're using Proton-5.5-GE-1 and the game is installed to the default location. Since the launcher is bypassed, mods can be added by appending the directiory name in between ** in the MODULES section.
With Proton 3.16-4 it works out of the box. Now with Proton 3.16-6 the intro animation doesn't play and it doesn't load into the game, after the menu, just hangs in a black screen.
Other than the freeze at the loading screens, which can be remedied by saving frequently, the game plays fine.
5.9-GE-8-ST GloriousEggroll
Installed the game unofficial patch and used the launch options:
%command% -game Unofficial_Patch -fullscreen
This game seems to be very... sensible, regarding fullscreen, refer to this comment on Valve's issue tracker for more information.
Quicksaves won't work and will crash the game, workarounds can be found on Valve's issue tracker for the game.
The game seems to freeze (not always) on loading screens.
