5.8-GE-2-MF GloriousEggroll
Runs better with 5.8-GE-2-MF
I had to enable virtual desktop or it could not run in fullscreen on i3wm
Slightly lower frame rate than on windows, still completely playable
Works well other than Fullscreen mode
Fullscreen mode caused the game to lock up on my system
Game works great, so long as steamVR cooperates
Loading the game (or steamvr in general) sometimes causes my steam client to crash
sabers jitter a bit while moving them, not really noticable during gameplay though
Multiplayer works perfectly, both Vanilla and BeatTogether
Mods work great, and install easily now with BeatSaberModManager [https://github.com/affederaffe/BeatSaberModManager]
highly recommend it over the outdated and cumbersome Beataroni
Works perfectly with latest steam beta and proton experimental
Valve has added support for their CEG DRM in the latest steam beta with proton experimental, making the game fully playable from what i can tell
while the game in the current state is playable, the lack of working video makes it difficult to recommend
5.21-GE-1 GloriousEggroll
Remove Video folder from game directory
on a few zombies chronicles maps some objects seem to pop in late, might also be a problem on windows, though I never noticed
on i3wm I could not click out of the game to my other monitor while it was the only window on the workspace, however if It loaded on a workspace with other windows open switching worked fine. if clicked out of the game switches to an odd resolution even after you click back in, easy to change in the options menu though.
the game decides to lock up on rare occasion for no apparent reason, only happened 2 times after ~5 hours of playtime
Custom maps/mods all seem to work fine, so long as you remember to remove the video folder from the mods that have them. located at steam/steamapps/workshop/content/311210/[Workshop ID]/
Full game works with latest steam beta and proton experimental
Valve has added support for their CEG DRM in the latest steam beta with proton experimental, game plays perfectly now including campaign and spec ops
Works perfectly with latest steam beta and proton experimental
Valve added support for their CEG DRM in the latest steam client beta and proton experimental, the game now works seemingly perfectly out of the box
Using D9VK increases FPS and fixes the mouse stuttering
Mouse stutters across the screen unless you enable D9VK
Base game works perfectly with D9VK enabled,
Custom zombies can "quickly" installed by running the protontricks GUI and starting the uninstaller then clicking install and selecting the EXE downloaded from custom zombies sites, alternatively you can run the EXE in a VM or have a friend run it on their windows system, then move the installed files, found here: "C:/users/[username]/AppData/Local/Activision/CoDWaW/mods" to: ~/[STEAMROOT]/steamapps/compatdata/10090/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/Local\ Settings/Application\ Data/Activision/CoDWaW/mods
The T4M mod can also be installed by placing the custom d3d9.dll into the game's root install folder running: "protontricks 10090 --gui" selecting the default wineprefix running winecfg clicking on the libraries tab and adding d3d9 as a new override click edit then set it to native, builtin It should then load
I hope this guide helps someone to get this amazing game working
Multiplayer works out of the box, Singleplayer wont load due to DRM
Runs great out of the box
Audio crackles for a few minutes after alt-tabbing
5.8-GE-2-MF GloriousEggroll
Controller not always detected, could be a steam problem though
Game works as perfectly as can be expected for a playtest
I've been playing for a few weeks now (though couldn't talk about it until now) and haven't encountered any issues that didn't also affect friends on windows. as a side-note, don't use the vulkan renderer as it kills the frame-pacing
Copy xlive.dll from \steam\steamapps\compdata\22370\pfx\drive_c\windows\syswow64 to the main folder of the game to fix black screen
change 'bUseThreadedAI=0' to 1 and add 'iNumHWThreads=2' to FALLOUT.INI in \steam\steamapps\compdata\22370\pfx\drive_c\users\steamuser\My Documents\My Games\Fallout3
Put "WINEDLLOVERRIDES="xaudio2_7=n,b" PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 %command%" in launch options. if you have a multi-monitor setup you have to unplug the monitor(s) that the game is not running on or your mouse will get stuck after turning
Also using WINEDLLOVERRIDES="xaudio2_7=n,b" and PULSE_LATENCY_MSEC=90 Launch Options to fix a mild audio stutter
F4SE will work if you rename Fallout4.exe to F4.exe rename F4SE-loader.exe to Fallout4.exe and create A f4se.ini file in Data/f4se/ then add
[Loader] RuntimeName=F4.exe
fixed with launch options
Unplayable Micro-stuttering while in fullscreen mode on i3wm, fixed by switching to windowed borderless in the launcher, you can still switch to a different workspace in order to click out of the game
Not A problem with proton but mouse acceleration is enabled by default for some reason, can be fixed with a ini tweak, easy to find with a quick search
seems slightly slower than windows, but is hard to tell with the game being capped at 60 FPS, completely playable though
Modding the game is fully possible with vortex mod manager running under lutris https://lutris.net/games/vortex-mod-manager/ Game can not be launched through vortex but so long as you click deploy mods they will load when launched through steam
Game crashes occasionally but that could just be general instability of the game
NVSE (New Vegas Script Extender) Which is required for a good amount of mods will not load with the normal versions of proton, but will load with the version linked. have also tested vortex mod manager via lutris to mod the game and it seems to work as expected.
Slight Performance drops when first exploring new areas or when rendering a new effect, smooths out after a few minutes
Disable Uplay in game overlay as it will get stuck on the screen and render the game unplayable
Coop now works so long as one of the players are using windows, due to the Uplay overlay not working under Proton you can not join a friend's game still works if they have the overlay and your game is set to joinable
Game functions great with GE, multiplayer is a bit of a pain to get working at first due to the need to disable uplay overlay
5.8-GE-2-MF GloriousEggroll
Co-op works if a friend joins your game, if you want to join them you have to enable virtual desktop in winecfg, set the game to windowed mode move the window so you can see the start menu launch uplay and have your friend invite you then accept the invite in the chat window.
the ground will occasionally disappear for seemingly no reason, does not effect gameplay just a bit annoying.
after taking an outpost in co-op the game has a chance to softlock, though this seems to also be a problem on windows
You need to disable uplay overlay in uplay settings or it will get stuck on the screen
this absolutely flawless masterpiece of a game works great out of the box
Runs as expected with <50 or so mods anything more and the game will not load past the title screen
Native Game and current Windows version on proton crash with more than 50 or so mods, Switching to the 64-Bit beta fixes the crashing.
opt-in to the x86-64 - Chromium + 64-bit binaries beta
The main and pause menu do not appear with the beta, This can be fixed by installing this LUA based menu system: https://github.com/robotboy655/gmod-lua-menu Dupes/Saves menus do not work and I have found no workaround for this issue.
The game is switching to 64-Bit by default on 01/24/2020 so switching to the beta will not be necessary for much longer, however you will most likely Still need to install the LUA menu.
5.8-GE-2-MF GloriousEggroll
game still occasionally crashes mentioned fixes reduce crashes
run with "x86-64-chromium + 64-bit binaries" beta if running with many addons. recommend installing lua menu here: https://github.com/robotboy655/gmod-lua-menu as the default HTML based menu does not work well with the x86-64 beta on proton
Singleplayer works out of the box, for multiplayer put WINEDLLOVERRIDES=winedbg.exe=d %command% in the launch options
Singleplayer works out of the box add "WINEDLLOVERRIDES="xaudio2_7=n,b" PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 %command%" to launch options for online
while in windowed borderless mode there is a small black bar at the bottom of the screen which does not impact playability, Though this is most likely due to me using i3wm.
5.8-GE-2-MF GloriousEggroll
https://github.com/GloriousEggroll/proton-ge-custom/releases/tag/5.8-GE-2-MF
you may need to run the game multiple times on first launch
All games work when launched in windowed
Game throws up an error if launched in fullscreen, add -windowed to steam launch options then once in game set it to your desired window mode
game must be loaded with -windowed launch option in steam
co op does not work due to desync/disconnection
Better framerate with D9VK
Game frequently locks up on loading screens, not a big problem since the levels do not have load zones
game only seems to load with proton 4.2-9, anything newer and i couldn't get past the first loading screen
Game works with Proton 5.0-9 shader compiling should be reduced as more people play the game
Had to enable virtual desktop in winecfg for the game to work on i3wm
mild audio stutter, seems to be due to shader compiling
Game crashes on Alt-Tab
Game stutters/freezes while compiling shaders, smooths out after playing for a while.
Some textures seemed to be muddy even when playing on max settings
Game stutters every 3-5 seconds, playable but only just.
Can be fixed with: PULSE_LATENCY_MSEC=30 %command% in steam launch options
Only notable difference from windows version after patches is the startup and menu background videos do not play
5.8-GE-2-MF GloriousEggroll
https://github.com/GloriousEggroll/proton-ge-custom/releases/tag/5.8-GE-2-MF
Due to uplay overlay not being functional multiplayer is a bit of a pain to set up, you need to enable virtual desktop in winecfg launch the game set it to windowed mode move the window so you can see the start menu use it to load uplay go to settings disable the uplay overlay then have a friend invite you accept the invite through the uplay chat window then after you load in close the game and close uplay (optionally disable virtual desktop) then load the game and you can join them again through the social tab of the in game pause screen.
the game works but crashes consistently on my system
Particle effects (fire, rain, extinguisher, etc.) do not render at all
Every ~30-40 mins the game locks up, both my monitors go black, then a few seconds later come back frozen with heavy artifacting.
compared to windows there is some graphical weirdness, it seems as though some lighting effects do not render, (though, this does make the game run faster) and if you lower render quality/scale there seems to be some kind of overlay on your screen that "jumps" as you move your camera.
game runs better on AMD cards under proton than on windows, provided you add the right launch options
launch options to fix X server crashing and particle rendering on AMD cards:
allow_glsl_extension_directive_midshader=true force_glsl_version=420 force_integer_tex_nearest=true MESA_NO_ERROR=1 AMD_DEBUG=zerovram,nodcc radeonsi_clamp_div_by_zero=true radeonsi_no_infinite_interp=true %command%
particle effects (fire, extingusher, spraycan, etc.) missing, fixed with launch options
Frequent X server crashes on AMD, fixed with launch options
The game stutters if it runs above 60 fps, could usually be fixed by enabling vsync in the game options. however since i'm running a 144hz monitor I had to manually cap the fps using libstrangle, which is the only reason i'm not using Proton 5.13
Runs perfectly out of the box, including multiplayer mode
5.8-GE-2-MF GloriousEggroll
https://github.com/GloriousEggroll/proton-ge-custom/releases/tag/5.8-GE-2-MF
Clicking out of the game causes it to freeze
Cannot currently complete the game as the videofilm never plays.
Enable virtual desktop in winecfg to join friends
Stutters when compiling shaders
To play with friends you need to join them through the origin friends list, this is easiest done by enabling virtual desktop, and when the game launches switch it to windowed mode then move the game window so you can see the origin client.
