The high DPI mouse issue seems to have been fixed after the steam deck update, making the game fully playable.
The game works fine on Steam Deck as long as you use Proton and not the native linux port.
The native linux version does not detect the controller input of the steam deck on the initial launch nor did it launch with 720P resolution of the Steam Deck as it defaulted to 1080P.
When i changed to Proton i had no problems with controls or resolution, it just worked.
Valve should probably change the default runtime to Proton instead of the Linux Runtime for this game, if they did that i would personally mark it as Verified instead of Unsupported.
Disabled fullscreen and set an custom resolution. configuration file is located under steamapps/compatdata/1238040/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/Documents/Bioware/Dragon Age 2/Settings/DragonAge.ini
Within the config file i changed under (the resolution was picked to match my gnome shell border, to get the most screen estate) [VideoOptions] FullScreen=0 ResolutionWidth=1920 ResolutionHeight=1015
Finally i disabled intro movies, under the segment [Movies] DisableIntroMovies=1
The game has trouble even starting in fullscreen as it just crashes immediately, this seems to be an issue with the Origin client as it is tries to take focus.
I'm currently playing the game just fine, although it is annoying not being able to start the game in fullscreen also it seems 50/50 if origin is actually be able to launch the game after all of my tinkering.
As other have stated it might help to change the priviliges of the Origin folder, though i'm not sure if it actually had an impact on the game, i will leave the command here for those who wants to try and get the game running (be aware that the complete path might not be the same for you).
chmod -R 555 ~/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/1238040/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/Application\ Data/Origin
Also if you want to import the World state from Dragon Age: Origins, you will need to copy the save files from the old game into the Dragon Age II prefix:
~/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/1238040/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/Documents/BioWare/Dragon Age/Character/[dragonageorigins_save]
though as previously stated this might not be the same folder for you.
In conclusion, i think this game needs to much tinkering for the average user to get it running. But if you don't mind the tinkering then sure go right ahead, the game runs just fine after the initial tinkering.
I've only played about 20 minutes of the initial tutorial, i will update my review if/when i proceed much further.
Others have pointed out that the game needs a 4GB patch later on as performance will tank, i found the patch through PCGamingWiki and added it to the games folder. The game seems to run fine with the patch, no issues in sight.
I've played for more than 28 hours now, all of them have been on Linux, no game breaking issues so far.
The only downside to playing the game through proton is that the game does not like getting out of focus by alt+tabbing as it will most often just crash.
Todays patch introduced performance improvements. fps were raised to 60 fps, previously it was 45-55 fps running at medium settings.
I initially played it on release where i bypassed the EAC check by renaming files as others have suggested.
Yet today From Software released a new patch which included fixes for EAC that actually made the game launch with multiplayer enabled, so i succesfully launched the the game logged in with Proton Experimental (bleeding edge branch) only problem was my controller was not responding so i tried to restart the game.
This time though the game would not launch even though it passed the EAC screen, the game did not actually start, the process was running but wasn't actually showing up.
Since then i switched to the latest version of Proton-GE which seems to just bypass EAC altogether and therefore not enabling multiplayer, but the game runs at least.
I was glad to see the update to EAC and i hope that another update to either Proton or EAC will fix the issue i had as was described in the multiplayer section of this report.
For the moment the game is perfectly playable in singleplayer, so if you don't care for the multiplayer aspect of the game, then just go for it.
Previously played the game on Proton-GE where controller worked just, on experimental inputs are not registered. Keyboard and mouse are fine though.
I see ghosts and messages now that EAC is enabled, i did not try summoning though.
It seems the steam overlay is disabled in-game, this might have something to do with missing controller inputs.
Others report that they use Proton experimental on the bleeding edge branch, this made no difference for the EAC issues i had previously in my previous report nor my current controller/steam overlay issues.
Hopefully the next update to either the game or Proton will fix the controller/steam overlay issues i'm currently having. Otherwise the game is fine.
The latest game update fixed the remaining issues i had
Multiplayer works flawlessly
I previously had issues with my controller (PS4) not being recognized by the game, this has been remedied with the latest update.
Steam overlay is still disabled during gameplay, but this might not be a game related issue.

Seems to work fine now
Had an issue where the rockstar launcher would not connect previously, this seems to have sorted itself out now

No problems encountered so far.
The game performs mostly fine, but as others have said the framerate tanks in some areas, the Gungan city for example.
For that reason i enabled FSR with the WINE_FULLSCREEN_FSR=1 %command% launch option and then lowered my ingame resolution which solved most if not all of the performance issues i've had.
Steam overlay crashes the game
After the latest update voice recognition now works.
gamemoderun %command% -vulkan
I've previously tried a lot of methods to get the game running, so many in fact i just put the game down and gave up for about half a year.
Now it just seems to work on Proton Experimental at least with forced vulkan at least.
If i play for further i will update my review again.
WINE_FULLSCREEN_FSR=1 gamemoderun %command% -vulkan -ignorepipelinecache
Sometimes crashes due to a ERR_GFX_STATE error, this seems related to Nvidia cards and running the game on Vulkan.
I've had a few crashes when running the game on Proton experimental, all crashes were due to the ERR_GFX_STATE, these crashes have been mostly sporadic, but seems to happen when a cutscene or some story event takes place (had 2 crashes during the camp party event).
That said, since i've switched to GE-Proton i haven't had any crashes, though i can't be sure they won't surface again.
Runs out of the box
The game supports the vulkan renderer and it can be selected straight from the options menu, this might improve performance for some people.
Runs out of the box
Ran the game perfectly fine with Proton, no Proton-GE needed. The first time the game starts it prompts for graphics driver updates this message can be completely ignored. After the game started i went straight to the options menu and changed the graphics renderer to Vulkan.
In my experience there was no need for setting any Launch Options as other reports have suggested.
Been playing through the game(s) with my daughter. It runs perfectly fine out of the box.
Works out of the box, mostly
Building shaders took way to long, almost 1 hour 30 minutes, but after they were built the game ran just fine.
I was not able to use DLSS as enabling the Nvidia APIs crashed the game on startup, hopefully this will get fixed in a later update to Proton. Until then I will use FSR 2 as fallback.
WINE_FULLSCREEN_FSR=1 %command%
I only switched to Proton-GE to try running the game with FSR enabled and having everything in the settings set to ultra, this way the game ran perfectly with 60+ fps.
I've previously played on standard proton with high setting which also sat at 60+ fps.
Runs out of the box
The game supports linux natively, but i had better experience running it under Proton.
Also i mostly play with a friend who uses Windows exclusively, and as far as i know there is no cross-play support between the native linux client and windows, Proton solves this exact issue.
No problems running the game with the current version of Proton
I've played the multiplayer co-op mode for about an hour with my friend who is on windows.
So far i've not had a single problem playing on Linux. The only hiccup we had was when his games crashed unexpectedly but this was not related to my game running on Linux under Proton.
Works out of the box
Also playing this on Steamdeck where it also runs fine
