Repeated the shoulder buttons on the back grips for ease of boosting and firing.
I put LB and RB on L4 and R4 grips for ease of shoulder and boost use. Expect super solid 60 FPS on maximum graphics for 4-5 hours of gameplay. Blown away, honestly.
Fails to initialize launcher after install.
Making the directory as suggested bypasses one issue, but presents another when the launcher reports it failed to initialize.
Flashing between launcher and play window was unbearable and random as to when it happened. Made play impossible.
Text is awfully small on the screen.
Until Frontier makes it so the launcher hides when the game starts, or Valve fixes Gamescope's fighting over launcher windows, this game's going to be impossible to play. Do not recommend.
Runs like a dream, honestly. Minor dips as new effects are rendered, 40 FPS is perfect for this game.
Made Left Trackpad Joystick, with "Y" on Touch, to enable a sort of radial equipment menu
Switched to 40 FPS mode
Minor stuttering when a new effect or material is seen while shaders compile.
There must have been some changes in the last two months with the 1.0 release, but the performance is great and the game runs really well in the last several hours I've been playing. A great experience on the Deck, honestly.
Lowered all graphics settings and set FSR to Ultra Performance
FPS in the low 20s with constant stuttering
Proton-6.8-GE-2 GloriousEggroll
Launched using 6.8-GE-2
Does not launch with Proton 6.3-4. Will also launch under Proton-6.9-GE-1, but multiplayer does not work; you can add contacts and see their online status, but you are unable to receive invites and friends cannot connect.
6.8-GE-2 worked wonderfully out of the box! Played Mutliplayer for a solid hour without any sort of issues at all. Really impressed with how well this works!
Ran smoothly out of the box, even at default settings. 40FPS at default in most environments.
Set game to 40FPS/40Hz
Mostly in planet descriptions but nothing related to gameplay.
Slight slow down during some of the demoltion missions when you're walking through a building, but they're brief. Playing with mods is also possible and easy with the Workshop!
Proton-5.8-GE-2-MF
Graphics set to max and ran like an absolute dream. I've never seen performance like this even on Windows!
Proton-6.1-GE-2 GloriousEggroll
Decreasing some graphics settings will obviously increase performance, but I had a similar experience in Windows.
Ran beautifully Out of the Box. Upped graphics quality and max FPS without any issue at all!
Set experimental 40 FPS Limiter in Quick Access Menu
40 FPS Limiter in QAM will give you about 11-13W power usage on default settings. 3-4 hours of battery life with an incredibly quiet fan. Absolutely insane.
Frame Rates were absolutely horrific on the menu, even under Vulkan. Entirely unplayable.
Perhaps this is a Pop_OS issue, but even once switching to Vulkan, the frame rates were just abysmal, even with reduced graphics settings.
Runs well on DX11, Vulkan is struggling for some reason.
Under DirectX 11, it worked splendidly. If I swapped to Vulkan, however, FPS tanked to an unplayable level.
Launcher starts, but nothing happens after clicking Begin.
Game makes use of a "GameGuard" anti-cheat. Googling suggests Linux is SOL at this point because of it.
Runs very smooth at different graphics settings depending on your preferences! Default + 40 FPS = 2-2.5 hours of play
Added a Left Trigger action layer so the back grips could be 1-8 hotkeys.
Different graphics settings for different experiences. Default is graphics setting 3 which runs smoothly at 40 FPS for about 2-2.5 hours of play. I was able to run at Graphics Setting 5 with the IN-GAME Frame Limiter set to 30 FPS for about 1.5-2 hours! (Make sure to verify FSR 1.0 is set. In both situations, I set it to "Auto" rather than picking one setting specifically.
More battery life or higher frame rates will require lower graphics settings, as other reports have stated. But I'm incredibly pleased with how well the game plays almost out of the box.
Trying to use Mouse while also using Joystick would max out the joystick vertically. To alleviate, use the trackpad/gyro as Joystick instead of Mouse.
Biggest concern is just the installation part and having to log in to Origin. Not really a problem unless you have a long, complex password; trying to enter with the on-screen keyboard takes a bit of time...
Works just like it did in Native, small hitches in populated areas and all!
You might see mild stutters in highly populated areas, which is just an engine issue. You can see some improvement by adjusting your Nameplates to only show enemies, rather than friendly players.
Installed via Itch.io App on Desktop Mode, then added as Non-Steam Game
Enabled Vsync in the graphics settings, else it ran at over 500 FPS.
I don't see why this wouldn't work with the Steam version, as well. Lots of fun to play.
Game will start out with micro stutters in matches as it compiles shaders quickly, but will smooth out shortly after.
Actually works better with Proton than the Linux Native version, as Native has issues with Shaders set on High Quality. Proton lets me play at max quality without issue.
The differences are noticeable, but not disruptive.
Very brief mouse lag infrequently
Had to switch to Proton 5.0-10, as 5.13 and GE-6.1 would run the launcher, but start a black screen and never load.
Proton-6.5-GE-1 GloriousEggroll
Proton-6.5-GE-1
The newly released Proton 6.5-GE-1 has finally resolve the input lag issue for me. No more need for polling rate tweaks or "just don't use the mouse when you're pushing buttons". It is now, 100%, running like Windows. With ONE exception:
Still have to log out and back in after switching toons to get chat working again.
Disable On-Demand Patching, Disable Tray Icon, Enable Fast Launch. Resolves any launcher related issues.
Worked on Deck exactly as it did on my Laptop; no latency issues.
For the smoothest gameplay at default settings, plus extended battery life, set Gamescope to limit to 30 FPS. You'll rarely if ever see drops during combat, and get 4.5 hours of battery life out of it.
Set left trackpad for school wheel, modified back grip buttons for mod commands.
Battery life is going to vary with the number of mods you install, though. My battery life is at about 4 hours with something like 60 mods installed, but still runs silently.
Major props to the developer on this, the experience for the game is a JOY on Steam Deck, and a great example of a Verified title. Not only is it well optimized to play with not one, but TWO OFFICIAL control layouts for the Deck you can choose from, the improvements they've made to the game's performance is just incredible. I played through a whole round at 60 FPS without a drop in performance, and with power usage only getting as high as 14W. 3-3.5 hours of battery life at 60FPS? WHAT IS THIS???
Gaijin took the Deck and ran with it. 60 FPS on default settings for 4 hours on battery, and official control configs.
Upped right track pad and gyro sensitivity
Controller configs built out to make use of all the Deck's features are incredibly handy, including gyro aiming. A really pleasant experience.
