Now that you can switch between Native version and Proton versions, the proton version fails to launch and the Native version isn't kept up to date with the main branch. This game is kinda stuck in limbo until one of these things is fixed.
As stated had to rename the .exe file. After that it ran pretty good was able to get through first mission and half of the second mission before it crashed.
-noesync -noLauncher Played online, worked for about 15 minutes like everyone else has said then crashed. I played the main campaign, completed first 3 missions plus a stress test, didn't crash for over 3 hours. Performance is on par with Windows. Make sure to install this game to your SSD for a performance gain. This game is now more stable via Proton then it's native port was. Will test more in the future, hopefully when Battleeye is fully working.
BattlEye seems to be working now. Was able to play for 110 Minutes, no problem.
Launcher still doesn't work need to add -noLauncher. Also rename Arma3Battleye.exe to Arma3.exe and replace the old one. Good idea to install Unix launcher.
Works now, BattlEye is enabled only issue is -noLauncher
Works now!
Ignore my last report, BattlEye had crashed which is why I was able to play for so long. Now the developer has officially enabled it, you will need to run it in Proton Experimental and download the Proton BattlEye Runtime from Steam (It's under Tools.) Launcher still doesn't work so use "-noLauncher" Good idea to download and use the Unix Launcher for setting up mods, hoping we see that get some updates now that the game works for multiplayer. Tried to have a buddy on my local network join a game I was hosting, for some reason our computers couldn't see each other (he's on Windows 10), but maybe I just didn't configure the server correctly.
God Speed!
Pretty annoying for me, it keeps crashing after about an hour or so, sometimes with a .net error sometimes with no error at all. Generally it's playable, but the experience is pretty lousy with about 3 restarts a sitting. Used:~$ protontricks 35140 mdx d3dx9 d3dcompiler_43 win10
Game would randomly crash when I had the graphics set to absolute maximum, turning the graphics down led to long term stability.
Don't buy until the videos play, else you will probably end up stuck 65,000,000 years in the past!i
Unplayable because of the inability to watch the in game videos. I got ~1/4 through the game, went to the Dino era and the game would freeze and crash every time because some video tried to play. Now I can't finish the game. 6.18-GE-2 didn't work ether, same results.
Proton-5.21-GE-1
Didn't even really get 60 FPS on ultra low setting, at 720P... It was playable for me, but I know you kids think 30 FPS is unplayable.
.exe hex edit : Replaced "75 30 33 C9 B8 01 00 00 00 0F A2 8B C8 C1 F9 08" with "EB 30 33 C9 B8 01 00 00 00 0F A2 8B C8 C1 F9 08" Replaced "55 48 81 ec a0 00 00 00 0f 29 70 e8" with "c3 48 81 ec a0 00 00 00 0f 29 70 e8".
Can't make it past the hist mission, keeps crashing in the car ride even on the lowest settings...
dinput8 override still needed.
Seems like the game works out of the box now, still needs the dinput8 override from win7 for vehicles to steer though, but it takes a good hour to get to that point in game. Took me a bit to figure out how to install a .dll override correctly, thing that was messing me up was I kept putting: winecfg WINEPREFIX=/... when I should have been putting: WINEPREFIX=/...steamapps/compatdata/552520/pfx winecfg" the former command just modifies your systems pfx, not the games pfx.
I launched game, started hunt, killed something, Tagged it, done. Seems to work just fine.
As soon as you move in game, everything turns blue. All you can see is the Hud and your hands.
Same issue, I tried PROTON_USE_WINED3D11=1 %command% this time but still the same issue.
The game starts now, but crashes as soon as you try and fly a mission.
Game crashed at first, I turned off Anti-Aliasing. Has the same issue as Skyrim where it will fail to close when the user exits. Other then that, seems to work well.
Nothing happens, I seem to recall this is a games for windows live game, probably never gonna work.
Seems like it almost wants to play...
Playing on 5.13-4 seemed to have the best results, would initially load menus and even played the opening intro fully rendered but inevitably crashed, playing on Experimental build had worse results, only showing a black screen during the intro.
Having Issues with the mouse. The mouse seems to work fine at first, just not in esc menu until you Alt tab, but that causes the mouse to becomes wayy- too sensitive and gameplay becomes unplayable.
Tested Multiplayer works great. Only annoying issue is that I can't alt-tab or I will get a black screen.
89 minutes to be exact, then the game crashed. Seemed to work fine up until then.
Have been playing online, the game works great, but as stated no videos makes one of the gamemodes unplayable.
A few things I forgot to mention, the game randomly crashes, seems to be when something mega-flashy happens on screen or guard blocking, happens after about an hour and a half to 5 hours of play, seems random. I tried to run the game in Lutris to fix the video issue but that ended up corrupting my save files on steams servers and didn't fix anything. Was able to recover but watch out.
Still works for me, only the videos don't play which means you gotta run the game in windows for the first video to play the campaign stuff, which kinda sucks.
So long as your willing to not pursue the main story, everything else works fine.
Slow FPS in MP sometimes.
Videos don't play, making main story unplayable unless you start it on a win PC.
Just to add about the FPS issue, I've played this game a lot and I've noticed the FPS issue happens more when there are custom character's in play, default characters seem to experience this issue less. You can also repeat this slowness in single player by fighting with your custom character from the creation menu.
I've been able to nail down a good repeat of the problem after hours of playing. If you play online with Tira against another Tira, you will get the slowdown issue every time. Playing other characters resets the issue, it's also a system wide slowdown. I can usually play this game at max setting and run youtube but when the slowdown happens the computer is almost unusable.
Very rarely the game will crash giving up an error when there is a huge amount of graphical intensity on screen.
Cannot complete main quest because video doesn't play. If all you really care about is online play it's fine, but this is a big show stopping bug in terms of fully recommending this game.
Might be the game needs patching...
As of right now unplayable because the game keeps crashing on high settings whenever closing the Tutorials, lower setting helped get past some of them, but even on lowest setting I couldn't complete the first level.
Had to Install Fixed .Exe (AKA the crack)
This game is so broken at this point... I was having just as many issues with it on Windows. Getting it to work was a pain... make sure you install the version 1.3 fixed EXE... Uboat Missions is buggy as all hell. Ubisoft should fix this game, but they won't.
OK Technically I got this game to work... but my work around will only work for me!
OK Technically I got this game to work... but my work around will only work for me because I'm probably one of like 9 people on earth with a boxed copy of SH4 and SH4 Uboat Missions on a Disk I burned from some defunct not Steam service I purchased the game from over a decade ago. I ended up installing my OG copy in Lutris copying over the .exe from it an replacing the one in the steam folder to get it to work. Steam version kept throwing up: "Steam error application load error 2:0000065558" Which turns out is a Steam Issue that happens on WIndows computers as well with this game... I tried to do the windows work around but that didn't work on Linux. Using the cracked .exe worked for version 1.3 (I.E. Not Uboat Missions) but nobody bothered to crack version 1.5 (Uboat Missions) So that's why I had to install the entire game via lutris off the DVD... Ubisoft should really release the source code for this game as open source. Clearly they don't care to maintain it... and the work around I had to pull is untenable for any normal person to accomplish....This game is painfully close to being completely lost to binary rotbin of history. Please Save it!
"protontricks 244850 -q --force dotnet472 xact" Worked for me, same issue as everyone else though with constant shuttering, crashed shortly after first autosave.
Here is the youtube video that explains how to set it all up: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Yo1Ls7AaWo I used protontricks but it's pretty much the same as the winetricks commands just you don't need to define the prefex, you just type in the app id as the second argument. Sound issues, but frame rate is near native now. Hey Valve, would love if you had official support for proton tricks, would make it all that much easier for new users to get games like this working. Love you guys!
Menu works, game crashed with a log report after trying to launch into a mission.
Cannot accept the EULA, game just freezes or does nothing when you click accept.
5.21-GE-1 seemed to have the best results.
5.9-GE-8-ST GloriousEggroll
5.9-GE-8-ST
Although I played it on windows too and there is some crackling there too.
Crashed on the Bridge a few times, auto-save makes this not really a big deal.
At the end the Video would not play. Could hear the audio, but no picture.
Sound issue like everyone else, I gave up trying to get it to work and will be trying over on lutris instead.
Was able to start the game but Servers wouldn't load.
Was able to start the game but Servers wouldn't load. Proton-5.9-GE-8-ST and earlier seemed to work, later versions of Proton would fail to load.
Totally Playable, and a fun game!
The game had some issue were it would occasionally crash in the custom battle menu, but it seems like the issue was fixed in the newer versions of Proton.
winhttp.dll override
Mostly user ignorance forced me to use Lutris to launch the game with Mods by adding the winhttp dll override in the wine config menu... tried to do it with Steam but I couldn't figure it out. Worked fine in Steam but would not load mods, now that I'm running it in Lutris, Steam will not run the game... big whoop, probably better if you don't add too much gametime to the clock with this one. All the content that makes this game good for the nut is with the mods, so they are very necessary.
