game opened on the wrong monitor (not the one I have set as primary). I forget how I fixed this; I think I added forceadapterid=-1 to ~/.local/share/bohemiainteractive/arma3/GameDocuments/Arma 3/Arma3.cfg
I could not get a joystick to work. I tried mapping it with Steam big picture mode, but then moving the joystick around in game would crash the game.
It runs almost as well as I'd expect on Windows
some sounds were noticeably delayed, such as footsteps (not sure if this happens on windows).
mouse control stops working when the window loses focus
set "Emulate a virtual desktop" for the default application in winecfg to fix the issue where mouse control dies when I alt+tab (setting the option on DarkSouls2.exe specifically does not work). To use cheat engine (for the enemy/item randomizers while in offline mode), I need to execute this command in wine, so that it will open in a separate virual desktop: explorer /desktop=name,1024x768 Cheat\ Engine.exe
ghost footsteps and other sounds occasionally occur. might be a game bug.
double click disable in the key binding options needs to be toggled off and on every time you restart the game. I've confirmed this is a bug on the windows version of the game too. Also note that if you want to play in offline mode, you need to decline the EULA or turn off your internet before you get into the main menu.
When using wine virtual desktop, it's a windows quality experience. I've even used cheat engine while I was playing offline.
Wine virtual desktop. This functionality seems to have broken in later versions of proton.
if your mouse leaves the window's focus, you will lose mouse control until the game is restarted. Using wine virtual desktop fixes this.
fromsoft checks your cloud-based save games for evidence of cheating, but you can still use cheat engine without getting banned lol
Runs perfectly.
if I try to alt+tab out when your mouse is controlling the camera, I lose keyboard input and have to alt+f4 the game. I can alt+tab out when I open a menu with mouse control.
brief stutters when rendering an area for the first time. probably shader compiling. doesn't really affect gameplay.
Brief stutters when entering a new area for the first time. It's probably compiling shaders.
one time the game opened in literally 2x2 resolution. I switched proton versions and it stopped happening.
I was running out of eventfds, so I had to disable esync. I might have been able to increase the kernel eventfd count but I haven't tested that.
I tried wine virtual desktop, which didn't work for this game and I had to disable it by editing the registry file with vim. I would recommend against that setting. Run in a window instead to avoid locking the mouse cursor.
if you're in anything other than windowed, the game locks your mouse. run in windowed to avoid that.
I forgot to close guitarix once and it tanked the frame rate for some reason.
Seems about native quality.
I got some artifacts that looked like a more persistent version of screen tearing a couple times.
The game crashed a few times. It was rare enough not to bother me.
The game takes an unusually long time to launch the first time. I sat at a black screen for a few minutes waiting.
added the -linux launch argument
text in the menus was cut off slightly
Crashing during character creation
echo "%command%" | sed 's/start_protected_game.exe/eldenring.exe/' | sh
I can select my class and body type but then it crashes after. Not sure if the character creator is just broken because I don't have any existing save files to test. I couldn't launch with EAC. I'm using the EAC bypass from the speedsouls wiki.
PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 %command%
Doesn't launch with EAC, so no multiplayer. The speedsouls wiki has a number of EAC bypass methods that work. Haven't tried with seamless coop yet, but I was able to get seamless coop to launch.
PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 %command%
Seamless coop seems to work decently. You just need to unpack the seamless coop archive into the 'ELDEN RING/Game' folder then use 'add a non-steam game' in your steam library to add the seamless coop launcher. Launch with the same options as regular elden ring. Built-in multiplayer requires EAC and doesn't work. You can work around this using one of the EAC disables on the speedsouls wiki. I have no interest in built-in multiplayer so I haven't attempted anything to get EAC working.
The game crashed without PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1
It ran about as well as it did on windows.
If you alt+tab during dialogue, it can turn the window black. The game redraws the area where you move your mouse, so you can clean up the screen by just moving your mouse around.
alt+tab was unreliable to escape fullscreen. It took a lot of attempts to put the window in the background.
Rare slowdowns on certain areas
When you alt+tab, the window can go black. You can mouse around to get the window to redraw, so it's not an issue.
alt+tab doesn't reliably escape the window. Usually had to hammer the hotkey to get out of the window.
Severe slowdowns in some areas. It was infrequent enough that I could deal with it.
installed xlive.dll directly to ~/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/22370/pfx/drive_c/windows/syswow64 https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout3/mods/22591
All reflections were distorted. When cars chain exploded, the color saturation looked wrong.
Impossible to get back into the game when you alt+tab out. Windowed mode does not work (I get a dialogue saying the gamebryo renderer could not be started).
Frequently hangs. Happens more commonly in indoor scenes. I added a window manager hotkey that runs kill -9 $(xdotool getactivewindow getwindowpid)
to kill the game when it hangs, since I needed to go into a TTY to kill it otherwise.
Reflections are distorted. There's a weird culling bug where enemies can suddenly pop into existence a few feet from you.
It crashes about as much as it did on Windows
The new game button stopped working. I've seen reports of this happening on Windows though.
I'm using the x86_64 beta branch because some servers require it. Chromium stopped working in a recent update, which breaks the game's main menu and Cinema servers. Tried the CEF codec fix: https://github.com/solsticegamestudios/GModCEFCodecFix but the script is expecting you to run the Linux version. The windows version of the CEF fix doesn't work on a Linux install of Steam either, so I'm unable to get it working at all.
Chromium is completely broken, resulting in tons of things missing.
I could only join through Steam friends because I had no main menu.
It crashed a few times in the 10+ hours I've played
I played through the first level to see if the game worked. I'll update this when I play through again.
explosions from bombs and flares were brighter than the sun
The performance issues aren't bad enough that it's no longer fun.
VOIP didn't work. Not sure if that's a game bug.
Lasers just don't render on some surfaces. Ballistic shield was too big in planar reflections sometimes. My operator's body has texture mapping issues when I look down.
FPS can drop substantially in a few areas. Even with 75% resolution scale at 1080p and planar reflections disabled, I still drop to 10 FPS in some areas.
Trying to join a friend's lobby while I was already in a single player lobby caused the game to load infinitely.
When playing multiplayer, weapon attachments would randomly disappear sometimes. The .357 revolver entirely disappeared one time.
Occasional desync issues. Might be a game bug.
The game runs as badly as it did on Windows, but it's still fun.
The game will only render on your primary monitor. It just stops rendering if it's on another monitor. Moving and resizing the game window can cause visual artifacts that are fixed when that screen area is redrawn.
This game performs poorly on modern computers, but it was just as bad on windows. Set these launch arguments to use windowed mode and a custom resolution: -w -CustomResolution:enabled -r1280x720x32
DXVK_FRAME_RATE=60 %command%
Not sure if it's just a Skyrim thing, but it would crash a lot. I played through Mod Organizer 2 and it would get more unstable the more times I launched Skyrim until I restared Mod Organizer. I tried adding PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 but it didn't change the crashes.
The DXVK fps limit is essential. The physics will break without it and you'll start the game with your horse cart upside down.
DXVK_FRAME_RATE=60 %command%
I can't hear dialogue anymore. Not sure if it's an issue with my mods. The game is better without tbh.

DXVK_FRAME_RATE=60 was carried over from old skyrim. I haven't tested if physics still break without the fps limit.
Since planning mode is broken, this game loses its one key feature. You might as well just play the SWAT series or Ready or Not.
There's an extreme dithering look to all dark textures. Very dark areas are hideous looking and can be almost pitch black as a result.
The game hangs when trying to place waypoints in mission planning mode and then waypoints aren't placed
Planning mode still seems to be non-functional since I can't seem to place any waypoints.
minor flickering on some effects and z-fighting on a few things
