Runs perfectly out of the box with default proton and settings. Works like a charm.
I have some stuttering issues which I think is because of the shader cache issue many other reviews here have brought up, but the game is still very playable and it only stutters sometimes (usually I load my first match of day as it renders out the map before jump).
I will be trying it out with Proton GE to see if that improves the performance at all, but experimental works fine if you don't have Proton GE.
When settings were on high, the assassination animations were really poor. They got really stuttery and dropped from 70-80 frames to 4-10 frames. Once animation was done, everything went back to a good frame count.
Great game and great gaming experience. Runs like native for the most part!
gamemoderun %command% --skip-launcher --dx11
When I first booted the game, the loading screens and cinematic sequences had heavy artifacting and the game had very little artifacting, but it was still there. The game was definitely playable, but the loading screens or cinematics (which are many) were very annoying.
I tried things like running updates, changing versions of proton, different launch options, and more. The final thing I tried that actually fixed it was switching from Wayland to X11. Once I did that, everything has run perfectly.
Note: I am on fedora 39 with an RTX 2070 Super and have GNOME. Steam info is not great when using fedora apparently.
bash -c 'exec "${@/2KLauncher\/LauncherPatcher.exe/Build\/Final\/BioshockHD.exe}"' -- %command% -nointro
I run essentially all my games using Experimental, so I haven't tried is with stable versions. But I set the launch options to get rid of the 2K launcher, but other than that, the game works like a charm. Haven't had any stuttering as some people have experienced. It just works out of the box for me.
This was honestly one of the smoothest games that went from borked to perfect. I would love to see the rating go to platinum for this one. Installed and played right out of the box. I have Proton Experimental set as my default in steam and I had a great time. No issues at all. 10/10 recommend. Plays like native.
Minus a few of the random bugs you typically find before full release, it plays perfectly
Played out of the box with proton experimental and no other changes. Didn't have any issues with full screen as some people said and didn't have a single bug during my 2.5 hours of gameplay. Running fedora 39.
I tried the game with default proton version and the game barely worked. It looked like I was watching a slideshow. And since the first few minutes of the game is a cinematic, you kind of need to be able to see what is going on.
I figured this may be an issue with my hardware so I changed my settings down to medium and tried again. Same issue.
Used Proton GE and my problems went away. That is usually my first tinker step to solve most of my proton problems and I recommend you download and install Proton GE if you haven't yet.
I have every game running through experimental, so that is the only change I made, but ultimately, this game just works. No stutters, no audio issues, nothing. It runs perfectly. I could see this game being platinum.
Honestly, having a game work in beta and into the first season with an anti cheat is so nice. Such a low bar to clear to make us happy, but so few companies do it. This one worked out of the box with literally no issues for me and still does.
I was a bit concerned seeing another review saying that as of recently the game is broken, so I went back to test it as I haven't played in the past couple weeks. Not a problem on my end. Not sure if they fixed the problem the original reviewer had or not, but it works for me just as it did on release day!
Works natively. A game actually deserving of the platinum rating.
This game runs great other than your typical early access issues that you have. Some stability issues playing multiplayer and some small bugs here and there that are consitent with a new release. I don't think they are linux or proton related. Give knock off pokemon guns, you'll have a good time.
Some issues with stuttering after loading into both the lobby and the games.
Plays really well! I have some problems with stuttering loading into or out of games, but after playing for about 10-20 seconds, that goes away. Didn't tinker at all, just playing with Proton Experimental as it is my default.
Black screen with error messages
The game installed fine, but when I went to open it I recieved errors about my DLL signatures were not all verified. So I tried to verify my files and everything came back fine. After some research, this seems to be an EAC problem.
After install, the launcher would load, but I just got a black screen then an uninformative crash report.
-force -vulkan
I couldn't change DX12 setting to vulkan because the vulkan setting is grayed out. I tried with and without easy anti cheat installed, changing to Proton Experimental, Stable, and GE. I also went as far as renaming the vulkan file to the name of the DX12 file to force it to read. Still the same issues.
