Tried with default Proton version and GE, neither managed to start up.
Without tweaking anything or changing Proton version, the game seems to crash at character select and trying to start it again will just result in a frozen loading bar before even the start screen.
Made game performance profile with filtering set to linear
Works perfectly out of the box. However, since this is a pixelated game, you'll get the best visuals with either setting the game to fullscreen in the settings or changing the Steam Deck's screen filtering mode to linear(FSR will look the worst).
Runs almost perfectly. Razer Chroma must be turned off or major performance issues may occur when moving or looking around. Switching to borderless windowed mode can cause issues.
DXVK_HDR=0 %command%
It seems to play alright so far, but needs a few changes to settings. B is accept and A is cancel, so you might want to change the bindings in the game's settings. Graphical settings also default to their lowest values, you can increase many of these settings without dropping below 60fps.
Especially if on Steam Deck OLED, the HDR is terrible and forced on, so use the following launch option to disable it:
DXVK_HDR=0 %command%
Works well enough on GE-Proton with some white flashes between scene transitions.
Audio/video settings are saved to Steam Cloud, so switching between Steam Deck and desktop can be a bit annoying.
Works just fine out of the box
In fact, it seems to perform better than it does in my Windows 10 install
Game runs with significantly lower performance than Windows(~26-45fps on high graphics, 40-50fps on low). FAR mod does not seem to function.
Default Proton version results in cutscenes with English when voices are set to Japanese
Due to the Japanese audio issue, I don't think this should quite be labeled as "Verified" yet. Need to use ProtonGE to have full Japanese audio.
If you intend on having English voices, you should have no issues with the default selected Proton version.
With the default Proton version, everything works well except for some pre-rendered cutscenes. Switching to Proton-GE fixed the issue for me.
Got a stable 60fps with a mix of medium/high settings(only slightly tweaked from defaults. No tweaking or even change of Proton version was neccessary.
Pre-renered videos do not play by default
Starting a new game, the initial cutscene does not display properly. Switching to other proton versions(including GE) results in either an endless loading screen or the game failing to start.
I shouldn't have to do anything more with a game already labeled as "verified".
Login window is invisible in game mode, and the osd keyboard won't work with it in desktop mode, need to login in desktop mode with external keyboard.
Native resolution has odd scaling. Neither windowed or fullscreen modes correctly scale to 16:10 aspect ratio, but windowed mode looks slightly better.
Aside from the issues mentioned here, the game is fully playable. The issues could very much do with being fixed though.
$(echo %command% | sed -r "s/proton waitforexitandrun .*/proton waitforexitandrun/") "$STEAM_COMPAT_INSTALL_PATH/SA2ModManager.exe"
Minor UI/menu bugs when resolution is at a 16:10 ratio
Vanilla seems to be fine. Modded works better with GEProton and the above launch options. Minor bugs at 16:10, though nothing that would significantly harm the experience. 1280x720 is flawless. The mods I could not get to work were HD GUI and Chao Data Menu, all my other mods functioned just fine.
Using the Steam default, I just get a black screen but sound and controls seem to still function. With Proton GE, the game attempts to start but immediately crashes before anything manages to start or display.
Performance didn't hit a consistant 60fps outside of cyberspace levels, but the framerate rarely went below 40fps for me. Played the mojority of the game on my Deck and didn't notice any issues.
Modded, including NorthernUI for proper controller support.
Adjusting certain .esp/.esm files can crash the launcher
Probably shouldn't be "Verified", as it has multiple aspects that other games are labeled as "Playable" for just having one of. Those being having a launcher that requires mouse input, need to manually invoke on-screen keyboard for naming character, and the UI displaying KB+M controls.
Install NorthernUI for the best experience with native controller support.
Heavy modding may require copying files from a PC(including load order files with the appdata folder).
Z-fighting is common in some areas
There's just the one issue of Z-fighting that is common in the newly added areas in this version. Besides that, everything works flawlessly and I get a consistent 60fps at max settings.
So far, the game seems to run almost perfectly, outside of a few minor graphical errors.
I press play on Steam, Steam shows me in game for a few seconds and nothing shows up, not even the game's launcher.
I had to use the PROTON_USE_WINED3D11=1 launch parameter in order to boot the game. Otherwise, not even the launcher will appear. At least with this, performance is much worse than playing the game in native Windows.
I swear this game worked fine in the past, but right now it seems to just freeze on a black screen upon starting up the game. Switching between Proton versions(including GE-Proton) did nothing to fix this.
