11,5 h gameplay, crashed 4 times, other than that works great out of the box.
Throughout the whole game ~ 10 crashes. All but one happened during crafting. If I was very quick with that, it didn't crash.
As someone wrote below- it works with Lutris. But it does not actually use Proton. It runs Steam in Wine environment where you download AC2 through uplay which also runs on wine. Or I did it wrong ;). Anyhow, there is a lot of tampering to be done before you get this running. For me it sometimes displays black screen in the game menu. I found that moving the window between displays helps in most of the cases. Sometimes you need to kill all wine processes in Lutris before it finally works. Otherwise ok, doesn't crash.
I have to kill uplay's process every time I exit the game. Otherwise, steam thinks the game is still playing. Uplay tray icon is not working at all.
protontricks 244210 -q d3dcompiler_43 d3dx11_43 dotnet48
I only checked a few cars/maps, some didn't load at all.
On fresh install use proton 5.0.10 and run protontricks as above.
EA broke the game again. Fails at new EA launcher install.
Tried different versions of proton, reinstalls.
winetricks vcrun2019
Started to work only after I installed vcrun2019 by hand;
winetricks vcrun2019
Works fine.
As said below, since proton 5.0.9 it works. Origin complains something about wrong directory. Ignore that and try to play the game, it will work
Runs fine out of the box, half an hour played. Game started windowed the first time, it's fine, you can enable full-screen.
As mentioned for some, disable split locking; sysctl kernel.split_lock_mitigate=0 If you don't, the game is gonna stutter like crazy. Overall good experience, 20 hours, like 5 crashes in total.
Used to be working without any issues. After recent rockstar changes it doesn't. You can make it work using the nogta5launcher hack posted below (the reddit link).
Used to work flawlessly. It is loading the menu, but after clicking either "new game" or "load game" is crashes cinnamon (logs me out).
Tried kernel upgrade to 4.15.0-88. Tried proton versions: 3.16-9, 4.2-9, 4.11-12, 5.0-3
Tried both of the start parameters mentioned below, but it still crashes every time "New game" or "Load game" is chosen.
5.13.2 works great. Previously I've had issues where the games would crash every time new game or load game was chosen. The issue went away
Just started the game, played for 15 minutes + like 3-5 minutes cutscenes. For now, there are no issues. The game just runs out of the box.
Game runs really well.
Second report, 94 hours in-game. There were 5 crashes until hour 50. I think those were fixed in post-release patch sometime in early April. The game runs really well, out of the box. At this time, there are no issues with the game on Linux whatsoever. Good job PS Studios!
Perfect!
Runs perfect out of the box. Not one issue during the whole 31 hours I played. Great game, too!
On first run there was no sound. After starting the game again, everything was fine.
Overall it's great. You can finish the game without issues.
alt-tab would crash the game
No idea if this is how the game is, but some glitches can be observed.
One crash in 5 hours.
Runs out of the box, no tinkering necessary. So far in 5 hours of gameplay crashed once (brought down the whole KDE and I had to reboot, killing processes didn't do a thing)
Runs great out of the box. With multiple displays, cursor can be stuck on main screen (move game to monitor 1 to fix), or use 1 display.
