Game ran well and I didn't encounter any bugs or glitches in my entire playthrough. Game runs well and I highly recommend it!
mangohud %command&
Noticed some minor texture flickering in the distance during talks with NPCs. But seems inconsistent and infrequent, therefore not a big problem at the moment.
Overall the game ran for me out of the box with proton experimental and no important commands, other than having mangohud able to be used. As mentioned previously I did notice some minor texture flickering, however it's been very infrequent so I haven't cared that much about it and figure it will get worked out as time goes on. I have tried the game on both DirectX11 (DXVK) and Vulkan and they both seem to perform very similarly from what I can tell. I noticed less system RAM usage using Vulkan but could be negligible as this was only noticed within an hour of gameplay, may not amount to anything on long sessions. End of the day it's a great and fun game and it runs amazingly well. Great job to the game developers and proton developers allowing for these games to work with Linux on Day 1!
Outstanding game that holds up after 100+ hrs of gameplay with very minor bugs on Patch 2.
mangohud
Minor graphical artifcats depending on the API. In my experience, DXVK (flickering white boxes), Vulkan (flickering black boxes).
After playing the game for roughly 150 hrs now I can say with certainty that it runs extremely well with very minor bugs. Overall the main issues seem to come into play depending on the graphics API that is chosen. In my experience (using an Nvidia GPU), DXVK is by far the most stable. My frames are very consistent, and frametime has little variability, leading to good stability. Vulkan is much less stable for me and has much wider variability in frametime, therefore feels much less stable and jittery during gameplay.
Additionally, with the most recent Patch, Act III is much more stable in regards to framerate. It still is much lower compared to the other Acts. Generally in Act 1 & II my fps was between 100-144 fps, while Patch 2 Act III is around 60-80 fps. Hoping with future patchs there will be more improvement. Ultimately though if your hardware is low you will have low frames, there's only so much patches will improve this for you.
Overall though, an amazing game that I love so much, and already in my next playthrough :).
Nothing to add, the game runs great as is, no real issues getting it to run, and was stable throughout the entire playthrough.
Chernobylite runs extremely well, I was able to launch and play with no problems and have had a very good experience. Absolutely beautiful looking game! Running using DX12 option.
Only issues I notice is when trying to use Ray Tracing. At all levels, objects that have "lights" in them (i.e. flashlights, mirror's, etc.) will have a very annoying flicking effect that is only present when using RT. This happens at all levels of RT used. Not a huge problem, but something to consider if wanting to enable this option.
WINEDLLOVERRIDES="winmm.dll,version=n,b" mangohud %command%
NPC audio occasionally will go silent. Happened very rarely, however.
There were occasionally artifacting. Additionally I noticed a shimmering effect on surface textures, specifially with DLSS and XeSS. FSR did not present the shimmering effect for me.
Cyberpunk runs surprisingly well considering the intense demands of the game. Some notes to take in mind with my review.
- I am running the game with mods, through Vortex Mod Manager, via steamtinkerlaunch
- Redmod DLC is installed
- WINEDLLOVERRIDES="winmm.dll,version=n,b", needed for "Red4ext" mod, which is necessary for a vast majority of other mods to work. Vanilla Cyberpunk most likely does not need this launch option.
- Proton Version - With mods I needed to use GE-Proton 7-55, it was the only version that would allow me to bring up the CET overlay, and with this mod being the one a majority depend on this was necessary.
- Regarding Ray-Tracing - As of version 1.62, Ray-tracing can be enabled with launch options. However, with RT and mods enabled my game crashed 100% of the time, I could not get into new games or launch save games. If you want to play with mods then don't expect to use RT. This could change with future patches and updates to the game.
Now, to the actual review. Overall I am very impressed with how the game runs. I have everything maxed out on the graphical settings, and I'm using FSR 2.1 on quality. I tend to average around 70-100 FPS, depending on the area's I'm in, in the game. Game looks absolutely stunning, and is only improved with the addtion of mods (I'm running over 90+ currently). I do run into occasional stuttering, however, they seem to be localized to specific areas of the game, which upon leaving, the stuttering stops. Addtionally, I do run into some hard crashes, every now and again. I'll have to hard stop the game and then relaunch. It doesn't happen enough to annoy me, but it is enough that I think it's worth mentioning. Not sure if this is related to mods or happens in vanilla Cyberpunk.
Overall, I would recommend this game to be played on Linux. Understand you will probably run into some bugs, but for me they were managable and didn't take away from the experience for me. If you can handle that, then I think you'll enjoy the game as much as I did on Linux.

Game launched and ran excellent with no tinkering needed. I only have mangohud running and made sure proton experimental was used. At 1440p with default graphics settings, everything looks great and runs around 70-100fps. I have run into server issues and trouble getting into the game, but this is on the game's server side and not a problem with Linux/Proton running the game. All in all, a fun and challenging shooter with ridiculous, over the top patriotic theme, love it! Go fight for democracy and liberty soldier!
Ever since Patch 1.000.102 I have not been able to play the game. Consistent hard crashes every 5-20 mins.
mangohud %command%
When the game first launched I was able to play the game with no issues. Only problems encountered were the original problems that affected the game at launch, such as server capacity and other miscellaneous bugs.
Since Patch 1.000.102, I cannot play this game on Linux, I have tried everything I can think of with respect to the distro I run, Gentoo.
- I have tried with "gamemoderun"
- I have tried with DX11; game will still crash after, roughly the same time
- I have tried with "stable proton," "many versions of GE Proton," and "Proton experimental"
- I have reinstalled the game numerous times, as well as verifying the integrety of the game files.
- For Gentoo specifics:
- Tried various stable and unstable kernels
- Recompiled EVERY program using default settings to rule out any troublesome programs
- Using stable Nvidia drivers
- Installed latest BIOS for my MB
- Turned off any RAM overclocks and CPU overclocks.
Nothing works, I don't know what happened or what is causing this. After all of the "fixes" I have tried I am starting to think it's something to do with the anti-cheat that's being used. Maybe something to do with it getting to the kernel level, and how it's not a "true" windows kernel being accessed. Truly idk, it's a shame I really enjoy this game and so I will have to boot into my windows install to play for now until some patch or change finally allows me to run this game.
Acknowledging that this game has apparently had a buggy launch, in my own experience I have not encountered any. I have run this game with the same settings on both Linux and Win 11 and found it runs mostly the same on both.
With my graphics settings customized using some optimzation guides and the addtion of AMD's FSR 3 frame-generation, I am averaging around 90-120 fps on average. I'm blown away with how good this game looks and how well it runs.

Nothing to add other than I love this game. Great music, great gameplay and brings me back to my days as a kid playing Dino Crisis and RE 1 on the PS1. No issues at all playing with proton. Also using a dualsense controller to play and it works flawlessly. Play this game, you won't regret it!
Nothing to add except that the game ran excellent for me and I didn't encounter any problems. Very stable and look great too!
DXVK_ASYNC=1 mangohud %command%
Some stuttering in game that is fixed with DXVK_ASYNC=1 ran as a launch option in Steam.
Some stuttering in the game that is fixed with DXVK_ASYNC=1 set in the launch options.
Biggest issue in getting the game to run properly, however, is the EA Launcher. For me to get the game to run with any version of proton I had to also have origin installed via Lutris and be signed in. Before that the game would not get past the EA Launcher screen in steam.
Loaded up Sons of the Forest with Proton Experimental and no other launch options. I ran the game on mostly ultra settings with some minor graphical tweaks. Averaging about 80-90 FPS with a R7 7700X and 3080Ti.
I'm blown away with how great the game looks and stable it's running as an early access and on launch day. I had a few hiccups once or twice in my frametime in the game, but nothing that affected gameplay for me. Overall it seems to run very well and I'm excited to play.
I have not tried multiplayer yet, but if my experience with single player is the same it should run pretty well.
One last note, I have an xbox controller always plugged into my PC. On startup I thought the mouse wasn't working, but once I unplugged the controller it recognized my mouse and keyboard, only a minor inconvience.
Nothing to add other than this game runs flawlessly with no problmes. Settings are maxed out at 1440p on a 34in monitor and I have a constant 144 FPS. Highly recommend.

Did not have to make any changes to make the game run, worked well right out of the box.
DXVK_ASYNC=1 mangohud %command%
I noticed very occasional stuttering with DXVK_ASYNC=1 added as a lunch option but nothing that was so often or bad that it took me out of gameplay. DXVK_ASYNC=1 fixed previous stuttering that made the game unplayable for me.
For me, adding DXVK_ASYNC=1 is the most important launch option, this fixes stuttering that made the game mostly unplayable. With that option set the game runs extremely well and on-par, and sometimes better than in Windows. Recommend giving Linux a try.
PROTON_NO_D3D11=1 PROTON_NO_D3D10=1 %command%
Bottom line is the game, with minor tinkering runs extremely well and was very enjoyable. I had to use the launch options listed above otherwise the game would get stuck upon launching. Using the launch options allows the game to get to the main menu and play as normal. Addtionally, using the "base" proton version works just fine, however I did notice screen tearing with this, changing to experimental took care of this issue for me, or it was minimal enough that I didn't notice.
The game is fun and I enjoyed playing. However, instability, crashes and online connection issues make it hard to recommend on Linux rn.
Game crashes in two separate ways. When quitting to desktop the game crashes everytime, no way around this I know of. The second is random, sometimes when going into or returning from missions. Very rarely did the game ever crash while in the middle of a mission.
In certain cutscenes I would notice massive frame drops, down from around 70-80 fps, to down to 20-30 fps. This seemed to be random, and did not happen to me on windows.
I enjoyed this game. I managed to play through the entire campaign on Linux and enjoyed it. However, I unfortunately cannot recommend it to the "casual" Linux user in its current state, as I can see them being off-put by the amount of crashing and instability there is to play. The main issues for the game for me are:
- Crashing - game crashes, though in fairly consistent areas, either during going into or return from missions. The other is whenever quitting to the desktop. Additionally, you need to disable the Steam overlay, currently, otherwise, the game will likely not load and crash on you when trying to start.
- Instability - Compared to playing on Windows, there is a noticeable performance drop. I'd say for me around 20 fps roughly. It's certainly ok, but it's noticeable enough that I start feeling like the "fun" of playing on Linux starts to dissipate for me. Additionally, large fps drops in cutscenes have happened at random for me which takes me out of the game.
- Online connections - this is a big one, I have never tried playing the game with others, and now with Patch 3.0, there is an issue that seems to be unique to Linux players, "Error AVF". Seems to be releated to EAC and as of right now is not fixed. Perhaps it will in the future, but as is, expect to only be able to play in offline mode on Linux which takes a large part of the game away.
I really do enjoy this game, and I want to love it on Linux so much, but right now I just can't. On Windows the stability and issues are non-existent so for now I will be playing on there. I'm hoping with some time and patches that I can revisit the game and see better performance. '''

Update to Previous review
Post Hotfix 3.1, game is running stable and as I would expect it to. With the addition of "SteamDeck=1" there is no more "Error AVF." I've been able to connect and play singleplayer, operations and multiplayer with no issues, and game seems to run just as well, if not better, than on Windows.
I don't notice the slowdowns that I encountered prior to the Hotfix, especially the fps drops within cutscenes, and overall lower fps in gameplay compared to on Windows. Thank you to the devs, and can recommend the entire game for Linux players again :)!
eval $( echo "%command%" | sed "s/2KLauncher\/LauncherPatcher.exe'.*/XCom2-WarOfTheChosen\/Binaries\/Win64\/XCom2.exe'/" ) mangohud %command%
In addtion to the launch options I needed to use the "Alternative Mod Launcher (AML) from here https://github.com/X2CommunityCore/xcom2-launcher. Doing this I was able to launch the War of the Chosen version (though a small change to the launch option for the base game can launch that as well) and use mods installed through steam with no issue.
The game does take a little bit to get set up but once done I had not major issues.
