Works incredibly well!
Obviously with all the physics behind it is normal that it slows down compared to playing with Windows, but it is very light and doesn't affect the gameplay.
No shuttering, amazing.

Shadows are broken in the native version, better to use Proton if you don't want to have poor quality graphics.
Using the native version there are some areas where the game slows down a little bit.
Using native version, the game will crash if there are too many decals or "special effects" on screen and the final battle with Nihilanth is unplayable. Use Proton.
With Proton, the subtitles sometimes overlap the letters against each other. (I don't know if it has something to do with the fonts installed)
With Proton you can have an experience almost like playing on Windows, but the native version is very unstable.
A lot of crashes making it unplayable
Crackling audio when loading a game, then it goes back to normal.
Impossible to play with native version, it can hang randomly and if you save the game you will lose all the progress, of the six attempts with native not even one I have managed to make it not crash.
Pathetic work by Paradox for the native port. It does not let me save the progress, it can hang randomly when deleting some structure either road or building, it can even hang in the menu when opening settings. I have tried it without addons to check that it's not a compatibility problem but the result has been the same.
It doesn't work with Proton, when loading or creating a new game it stops responding indefinitely while loading.
It is better to use the native version if there are problems with Proton.
Totally opaque or flickering shadows in the distance.
Change between all "Game cursor mode"s on Graphics.
Entering the pause menu or changing ingame settings too much slows down the framerate severely until you restart the game.
Using the "Medium" graphics preset with "Depth of Field" disabled.
Works almost perfectly
In some places there is a lot of lag, usually when there are several light points.
EasyAntiCheat doesn't work on Wine/Proton (for the moment).
When Epic Games gets going to make EasyAntiCheat work in Wine/Proton for multiplayer games it will be time for me to be 100% full Linux. But for now I have to split up to play multiplayer games.
Not working
Still not working at all, EAC keeps loading indefinitely.
It doesn't feel as fast as on Windows but there's not that much difference and it practically doesn't even exist if you play without add-ons.
Normally there are no crashes, but if the game drops to 10fps or less then there is a chance that it will stop responding and crash.
Follow the advice of the rest and don't run native GMOD for Linux, it sucks.
The previous reports show how to fix the problem with textures, resolution, gamma, etc. But I will explain how to do it so that it works in my case.
This configuration file has been the one that worked for me, replacing or copying its content to the game folder into the Quake4Config.cfg
and enabling the value of r_ignoreHWGamma
to 1 has been enough for me to play without any problem at good quality.
Apart from Quake 4's problems of having aged somewhat badly with the evolution of the hardware, I have to say that I'm a bit surprised that everything is running smoothly and without any problems.
There was a temporary stuttering at the beginning, but after that the game ran flawlessly.
Forced to use "Ultra" quality for textures, otherwise the resolution of all textures drops off abnormally low, editing the configuration file manually might solve the problem.
Some shuttering in particle-rich areas.
When there are a lot of decals on the map the game slows down slightly, which was not the case on Windows.
I'm not sure if it has to do with running the Flatpak version of Steam or a firewall issue, but I was able to connect to my friend's session while he couldn't.
You have a great gaming experience and practically forget that you are playing from Linux.
