Works great, doesn't have framerate issues in specific areas like native version does, EAC works
Proton-5.21-GE-1 GloriousEggroll
Proton-5.21-GE-1
Game sometimes crashes when joining a server (I'd say about 30 % chance of a crash)
I switched to Windows version after I found an area where I consistently got less than 10 FPS in native version. With Proton (and same graphics settings) I haven't had any such problems and I'm running at stable 60 FPS (except for blood moon horde, but even then I'm probably always above 50 FPS).
Sound worked in random places, but not everywhere. Fixed by launching with SDL_AUDIODRIVER="winmm". Loading times also seem to be way too long for 2D point-and-click adventure, but I don't know if that's just the game or an issue with Proton
A few crashes, but otherwise perfectly playable
Game crashed 4 or 5 times during my 10 hour playthrough
Other than intro videos, everything works fine in standard Proton
Intro won't play (is replaced by a "testing" video because the format isn't supported by Proton); if you want to see intro ingame, use Proton-GE 6.14
Runs flawlessly
FPS dropped significantly after the first area, but that's most likely due to my CPU being below minimum requirements of the game
Install xact using protontricks (protontricks 377160 xact
), then set launch parameters to WINEDLLOVERRIDES=”xaudio2_7=n,b” %command%
. The override does nothing without xact installed. (this fixes missing dialogue sound)
I also tried Proton-GE, but I couldn't get it to launch this game for some reason - it didn't even launch the launcher.
6.14-GE-1 GloriousEggroll
It's impossible to get back to the game once it loses focus
I haven't had a single crash in my whole playthrough, no audio problems, nothing except the mouse sensitivity issue and performance
Changing the mouse sensitivity does nothing, I had to lower the DPI using hardware DPI switch
I'd expect a RX 580 to be able to handle maximum details in this game @ 1080p60. I get 50+ FPS most of the time, with some areas dropping to 40+. The performance might not be due to Proton, IDK how well it performs on Windows
I haven't tested the multiplayer and level editor
Very frequent stutters make the game hard to enjoy
When the game freezes for too long (which it does rather frequently), audio can cut out during the freeze. Also, dialogue sometimes sounds too quiet, but I don't know if that's a Proton issue
Lip animations either get stuck in a short loop or fall out of sync with the audio
There is constant stuttering when changing camera angles and when new objects enter the scene (like NPCs), sometimes the freeze can last up to a second
The pop-in is very distracting, but better than game freezing every time a new shader is encountered
7.0rc2-GE-1 GloriousEggroll
DXVK_ASYNC=1 %command%
All objects are invisible until their shaders compile. Lip animations are broken and keep looping until the next animation gets triggered.
Using DXVK_ASYNC makes the game playable without a problem (I've finished the game like this), but the broken lip animations and objects randomly popping into existence are serious problems for what's basically an interactive movie
Mostly works fine, but unless you want to finish the game in one sitting, it isn't really ready
Texture shifting
Works great except for the graphical artifacts. Playable, but sometimes not pretty
Ground textures tend to shift / flicker a lot when viewed from most angles
Works out of the box with a minor graphical bug
Game seems to limit itself to 2 GB of VRAM even if more is available, and setting textures above Medium results in most textures ingame showing as their lowest mip-level, which looks worse than when textures are set to Low
After finishing the main mission, a trailer for MGSV:TPP is supposed to play, but is replaced by a testing pattern
Worked out of the box in a clean Proton prefix with no prior modifications
ME2Controller mod (which adds controller support) works flawlessly in Proton
Only had issues with sound, but idk if that was Wine issue
When multiple sounds are playing (like ambiance, footsteps and gunshots), there's a good chance something won't make a sound - usually the gunshots
Performance seems way too bad for how the game looks, but if your GPU can handle it, then it is an enjoyable experience
I can't compare performance to Windows native, but graphics look quite simple, yet my RX580 can only do slightly over 60 FPS at 1080p (and fans spin up to max even when capped to 60)
Game turns vsync off on every restart
Works fine, but the game doesn't support 1920x1080 or higher resolutions by default
Works fine
I don't know if this is a Proton issue, but some windows / glass surfaces are noticeably flickering when viewed at certain angles (which is a bit worse problem than usual given that this game trains you to notice flickering)
I've had one crash in the 7 hours I've played so far - again not sure whether that is an issue with Proton though
Works perfectly fine
The game has issues with Czech keyboard layout - binds using the number row (+ěščřžýáíé/1234567890) need to be rebound on every launch. This used to be a common problem with Wine but is pretty rare nowadays, so I'm including it as an issue with compatibility.
Tutorial, PvP and PvE modes all worked fine
This report is for the closed beta. Also, I have no way to compare the performance with Windows, but I'm near minimum requirements listed on Steam and getting ~60 FPS on lowest settings at 1080p, so I guess it's fine
Works out of the box, even gamepad works
Native version for some reason doesn't properly recognize Xbox Series controller (key hints disappear and the game doesn't react to any button presses on the gamepad), running Windows version in Proton fixes that (key hints get replaced by proper gamepad button icons etc.)
No significant issues during my first hour playing
Occasional stutters when loading new scenes
Game takes about 20 to 30 seconds to start drawing anything on screen when launched, appears frozen during that period - just wait it out.
Unplayable without TFix
The game is unplayable, presenting a frame once a second or two
TFix can be found at https://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=149669
This report is here just for completeness sake, I'll add tinker report with TFix next
Installed T2Fix from https://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=149669
Crashes when launching a new game
Main menu was extremely laggy on the first launch, only 640x320 and 800x480 resolutions were available and the game crashed when starting new game.
On subsequent launches, the game crashes with a message about resolutions mismatch between cam.cfg and ddfix.ini.
Tried just for ProtonDB completeness sake, I'll try with TFix
Works without any problems
Mouse jumps in menu. Fine in-game
I had to edit game files to be able to play in 1080p, but that is an issue with the game
