PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command%
Degraded performance compared to Windows surprisingly, as all other games actually run better.
Set PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 in environment variables if your GPU doesn't support Vulkan.

Enabled Steam Input
The native mapping for my Xbox One S controller was entirely wrong. Some acctions were not mapped at all, rendering the game unplayable with it. Enabling Steam Input (but still letting it use the "official" configuration for the game) fixed this issue.
Läuft Out-Of-The-Box
The game worked perfect out of the box

The official controller layout was actually done properly, you can look at it in overlay and everything is labelled.
I didn't check FPS, but didn't have any other issues described in older reviews of native version.
I played plugged in, so wasn't worried about battery; you can set the settngs to max/ultra and further drag all the remaining sliders (draw distance, etc) to max and the Deck can handle it fine. The fan wasn't noticable.
Text size was fine for me in most places, but if the subtitles are too small, they can be made bigger. (I think subtitles defaulted to off, I turn them on usually). The HUD is also adjustable.

Great game, works fine on the latest stable Proton.
Also tried running the game native, which works fine, but has some mouse double clicking bugs that can be anoying. So I prefer to play via proton, which does not have that bug.

Playable but certainly a notable downgrade
max of 15 frames per second at medium graphics quality on a computer that could run the game at 60fps max graphics on windows
Both native linux version and windows version through proton have considerably lower framerate on a computer that could run the game on max graphics at 60fps on windows. no tinkering i've done has improved performance

gamemoderun mangohud %command%
Work perfectly native, throught wayland and vulkan.

Tried Proton 8-GE and V-Sync, but the FPS was switching between 60 and 47 every two seconds, making the game to stunt. Changing to Proton 7-GE did the trick

Game just worked out of the box. I'm using KDE running on X11 not Wayland.

Game works out of the box and inputs are nice with a controller.

Running smooth as hell, could as well been native
I have never seen a game distributing it's load this equally on all cores, bravo Hinterland

Increased Swapfile to 8 gigs of RAM
Very rarely there might be lag due to low RAM/swapfile
Very rarely there might be lag due to low RAM/swapfile
Runs great right out of the box
Works flawlessly with GE-Proton9-7. The experience is smoother than on Windows, although the provided controller profile isn't the best.

(Epic version) Works perfectly with recent versions of Proton GE. Does not launch with other Proton variants.
Lower graphics preset to High or Medium; set TDP to 10W
Resolution is not set correctly on first launch; interface looks glitchy/squished but you can still get to the menus and change the resolution
Videos and cutscenes are completely broken unless using Proton-GE; either switch to that, or rename/delete the folder "tld_Data/StreamingAssets/Video/Windows" in both the game's and the DLC's install directories.

The game works great as long as I play with Proton 7.0-6, otherwise there are extremely annoying stutters every 2 seconds.
gamemoderun %command%
The game kept periodically stuttering every 2 seconds when using Proton 8 (also tried using GE-Proton-8). Switching to Proton 7 fixed the issue. I've noticed in a log file this error also occuring once every 2 seconds (both Proton 8 and 7): Failed to find library for L"Windows.System.DispatcherQueue"
.
I don't use linux native version, because I want to mod the game using MelonLoader, which currently has issues modding the native version.

Das Spiel hängt sich per Zufall öfters auf. Nativ scheint zumindest bei mir ein Problem mit der Soundengine zu geben, warum es passiert und wie es mit Proton ist, ist mir noch unklar

the game works on both native and proton, but it seems to me (this is not certain) that proton has more fps
-force-glcore
не запускается без -force-glcore
won't start without -force-glcore
Game runs great, no issues
Runs great out of the box, no problems noticed. 100+ fps without drops.

I had to rename <path-to-game>/tld_Data/StreamingAssets/Video/Windows directory to skip the intro, otherwise a black screen appears.
Native works great out of the box. No problems
DRI_PRIME=1 %command% -force-glcore
Not adding the -force-glcore will cause FPS drops which start after a few minutes playing. In my case I also needed to put DRI_PRIME=1 or it will be executed with the integrated GPU instead of the dGPU
Besides the extra parameters that you need to add, the game works very well. I'm playing in Ultra

dont work on heroic (epic games)

Only problem with default proton is ocassional crashes. GE work fine.
Won't launch on Xorg or Waylnd( with SDL_VIDEODRIVER=wayland )

No progress after the disclaimer
PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command% -force-glcore
Proton: 1603141982 proton-5.0-10b
I renamed TheLongDark/tld_Data/StreamingAssets/Video as well as others said.
%command% -force-glcore
Without launch command FPS drops from ~200 to ~30, typically after saving game (sleeping).
gamemoderun %command%
The game runs natively without any problems.

Switch to Proton Experimental to launch non-native version. Native runs with 25 fps, Proton with 60 fps
Switch to non-native version by forcing Proton Experimental. Game runs perfectly around 60 fps on max settings. Native version runs lower than 30 fps regardless of the settings.
