The launcher only displayed "Install" option so I couldn't launch the game. FIX: Open the Steam library, set filter to 'Tools', find Stwamworks Common Redistributables and install it. The game launched flawlessly after that.

not able to launch game past the initial menu
pop-up menu at first registered the game as not even installed, after tinkering i was able to fix that, and got stopped by a crash after launching

Works perfectly. None of tinkering.
As in my previous report from near 2 years ago I set PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 run argument to run Fallout: NV, now I'm no more need it. Game works out-of-box without any tinkering. Just works.

very light stutters
It's playable. I was experiencing very short stutters every 3 seconds or so, switching from experimental to Proton 8.0-5 seems to minimize it, although they still occur.
Perfectly playable out of the box. For modding i recommend wrye bash for linux.

Runs more or less the same as it does on Windows (Read: Doesn't crash more than you'd expect from a Besthesda game).
Infrequent flickering in some distant object textures.
While alt+tabbing works, the game sometimes still registers mouse input while in background, resulting in pause menu items being triggered.
gamemoderun %command%
Main menu theme and Mojave radio dont play any music on Proton 7.0-5 and GE-Proton 7-42
gamemoderun PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command%
In Steam folder in (...)/steamapps/compdata/22490/pfx I edited system.reg file and at the very end append (with an empty line between it and the last entry):
[Software\\Wow6432Node\\Bethesda Softworks\\FalloutNV] 1627669000
#time=1d7856f0ad32d72
"Installed Path"="C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Fallout New Vegas\"
Proton 7.0 doesnt work even after editing system.reg file
You can use default steam proton - if not, proton-ge will definitely work.
Works great without any tweaks
WIthout this it had 1-2 fps but its probably my gpu just not fully supporting vulkan
sometimes a texture blinks in black or white and goes back to normal
I've got error saying "Fallout: New Vegas does not appear to be installed and the installer could not be found.". After research I found this solution on internet:
In Steam folder in (...)/steamapps/compdata/22490/pfx
I edited system.reg
file and at the very end append (with an empty line between it and the last entry):
[Software\\Wow6432Node\\Bethesda Softworks\\FalloutNV] 1627669000
#time=1d7856f0ad32d72
"Installed Path"="C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Fallout New Vegas\"
And it worked! It doesn't even need to have "enplczru" or any of that, and actually it works ONLY without this.
- some ground textures rarely can load in very low scale, causing them to be blured. This only happened in exteriors so far, and can be easliy fixed with reloading game (exiting to main menu/desktop; loading save; walking in to other location or fast traveling).
- in far distance some texture slightly flickers, but I'm not sure if it's Proton fault or just Bethesda's buggy game engine lol
- 10 fps slower compared to playing on Windows (on high settings)
- too many ragdoll objects can cause drop fps to zero for a second or few (this might be issue only because of my low-end hardware, tho I didn't notice that much of fps drops playing on Windows)
I've noticed that it has less hiccups, almost none - when on Windows it had them probably on every loading screen, and sometimes when entering pip-boy.

Won't work. Stuck in the launcher. Damn DRM
Once I try to run it, the launcher starts, but there's only one option -- "Install". But when I click it, it says "Fallout New Vegas does not appear to be installed and the installer could not be found. Try exploring to your DVD-ROM drive and selecting setup.exe to install the game"
Perhaps, the problem is, the game isn't supported officially, so probably the game tries to check in the registry if the game is installed, but sees nothing in it as I'm running it on linux.
Tried all the versions of Proton with no luck.
You can forget installing complex mods as NVSE requires a lot of effort and overall is not worth it.

6.14-GE-1 GloriousEggroll
It's impossible to get back to the game once it loses focus
just force proton 4.11, works like a charm.
Pit boy radio audio is missing but radio from radios works fine
The game would disapear if I alt tabed
Felt like mouse acceleration but really bad one
Frame rate was caped at screen refresh rate (probably a feature but it was a bug in pay day 2 so I dont know)
quartz
After issuing:
protontricks 22490 quartz
everything went smoothly, with some minor graphical artifacts (something like rectangles of missing textures flashing at the long distance). Without quartz: missing some audio on starting screen and regular crashes after about 10 minutes in game.

Not working after upgrade to proton 5
It seems playable with older proton version 4.11-12. Tested with both wined3d and dxvk.
My HUD in many places disappeared, in VATS my screen sometimes turn to black. I disabled HDR and Bloom.
I turn on DX9 to OpenGL, but still had some slow downs.

The game some graphical faults at a distance that does not show enemies, usually stops in some occasions before sudden movements of entrance and exit of some building. It has some occasional crashed

Have not tested mods. The performance is just as good as windows.

Has little slowdowns on shader compilation, but they appear once and then it's smooth sailing
