After the major update on 10/5/22 DOTNET_SYSTEM_GLOBALIZATION_INVARIANT=1 is no longer required for the game to run for the native Linux version.
Needed to use Proton-5.21-GE-1 https://github.com/GloriousEggroll/proton-ge-custom/releases/tag/5.21-GE-1
Fullscreen mode made the game only take up half the screen and intensely jitter
First loading something after installing the game causes extreme lag, with maps taking multiple minutes to load first time. After loading it first it's fine, including restarts.
gamemoderun %command$
Crashed about 3 times throughout the course of the campaign
Currently you have to force the game to proton experimental, but after that it's just like playing it normally.
Crashed once during the after-mission cutscene, may not be Proton/Linux related
gamemoderun %command% -noforcemaccel -noforcemparms
Clicking with the mouse only worked with Proton-GE. This was not a problem in past and seems to just be an odd issue I'm encountering.
Besides the weird mouse problem everything works fine. I doubt most people will run into this issue as I did not have it in the past and the friend I was playing with who was also on Linux was not experiencing the issue.
Playing the campaign the game tends to crash after completing a mission and doesn't save your progress. To fix this set Steam to offline mode and it works perfectly. This bug is also present on Windows.
Besides the odd crashing bug (Windows
gamemoderun %command%
Game will crash after each mission and not save progress unless Steam is set to offline mode. Game will sometimes begin freezing during startup and never loading, this is fixed by turning the Steam overlay off for the game.
For most people will work fine, for anyone experiencing problems the fixes are easy.
Very occasionally there would be a very small stutter, but it hardly affects gameplay
Crashed once. Probably not Proton related. Game has a good checkpoint system anyways so it's of very little worry.
As of the day of the Steam launch it's totally broken on all proton versions.
Doesn't even show up besides in my taskbar where hovering over it just shows a black screen.
Functioned twice, never again
eval $(echo "%command%" | sed 's/Chivalry2Launcher.exe/TBL\/Binaries\/Win64\/Chivalry2-Win64-Shipping.exe/')
Was able to get to the main menu twice. Every other time the game would take 100% of my CPU and freeze, making the game a rigged roulette and totally unplayable unless I wanted to gamble launching it over and over.
gamemoderun DXVK_ASYNC=1 %command% --launcher-skip --skipStartScreen
Only encountered one crash that was most likely not Linux/Proton related
Joining a friend via Steam would cause the mouse to become detatched from the game until hitting escape twice, however that cancelled the joining. Once the match is started the problem is fixed on it's own though.
The section of the hub that's full of fanart ran quite slowly, but I didn't experience any problems during a match
gamemoderun %command%
Game has poor matchmaking sometimes, but it's not Linux related.
gamemoderun %command$ --use-d3d11
Some reflections bug out and turn into sparkling bits of light. Probably a DX11 issue as I didn't notice it on DX12.
Could not look around in game with my mouse until I applied --use-d3d11
The use of --use-d3d11 to fix problems makes the game run worse. With DX12 I can run at near max settings but I need to lower to medium with DX11 in order to stay at 144fps.
Without --use-d3d11 the game would crash after around an hour of playtime.
These may be RX7000 series specific problems based on the other reports, but after applying --use-d3d11 I'm happy to say the game is enjoyable on Linux!
Vulkan mode's fullscreen wasn't actually fullscreen and had bad screen tearing. dx12 fixed it.
On lower floors I began having intense stuttering at ultra settings, setting graphics to high fixed this.
On native the microphone doesn't work
Slightly crappy networking. Getting hit when you shoudn't sort of problems.
Based off my friend's experience it seems to just be how the game servers are though.
Works absolutely fine. r2modman and mods worked too
Extremely bad stuttering on native, very ocassional stutters on proton
Other people have reported stutters, so it may just be a normal problem for the game, but on native they would happen every 20ish seconds whereas on proton they happened very infrequently for the first while and then stopped altogether later in the session.
If you still wish to try native on wayland, you need to use WINIT_UNIX_BACKEND=x11 %command%
as a launch command or the game will never appear.
Works flawlessly with one minor bug
Game window changes sizes for a split second when loading levels
Worked without issue on Proton 6.3-5 including multiplayer
Shadows load in large blocks that shift as you drive around
The shadow blocks are distracting as you drive, but given that there's nothing to keep you playing the game for more than half an hour (as of launch day) you wont have to put up with it for long.
