Had to use the -nointro launch option, otherwise I was stuck on the level loading screen. After that, game ran smoothly, with an average of 100fps. Played a bit the intro, only bug I noticed was that some textures took a long time to load.
Ran perfectly on first try, without any tweaks. Played a bit the intro, performance was really good (an average of 150 fps).
Worked out of the box without any tinkering
I am using a Valve Index with the default SteamVR and the game worked without any issues so far. The only change in the game settings was enabling FSR to get smooth 90 fps.

Ran very well on high graphics
Very stable
Can even install and create mods. Played multiplayer without any issues.
Press play and enjoy
Only tried 1vs1 but everything worked without any issues. I don't think there's an anti-cheat yet so we'll see in the future if they add one.
The game was lagging on the first start (could not get over 30fps on low settings). Maybe due to shader compiling, or because I tried the game on the release day so bugs are expected. Retried a few minutes later and was able to get between 60 and 80fps on high settings, which is expected I guess for my hardware.
As long as you select the default launch option (not directX10, openGL or Vulkan), the game seems to work without any issue.
Played through the entire solo campaign, no crash reported, no graphical glitches, seemed like a native game (40-60 fps on high/very high settings). Works very well with the steam controller. There where a few issues though. For example, when you alt+tab out then back in, the alt key stays pressed, but pressing it again fixes it. When starting the game, the launcher is using a lot of CPU power for nothing, (15% in my case). The fix is simply to kill the GTAVLauncher.ex process when you reach the main menu. This can dramatically increase performances when you have a weak CPU like me. Graphical options need a full game restart to be applied. When changing settings, if you apply them then go back into the settings, they will be reverted back to original values. So just exit the game after changing settings. And last, enabling vsync seemed to lock the game in half-vsync (so 30fps max). There may be a workaround to that but I was too lazy to figure it out, I just disabled vsync.

Game starts minimized for some reason
Since the game is recent I automatically switched to proton experimental, haven't tried the other versions. Runs around 30-40 fps but its to be expected since my setup is a bit outdated.
After the last patch I got a black screen on launch. I had to edit some settings as explained in the support article linked. Guide shows steps for windows so this may not be an issue with proton.
Be careful the game has an old native port selected by default. To use proton, go to the game properties and enable Steam Play. After that, everything works perfectly: local, multiplayer (with friends on windows), workshop... No noticeable performance difference from windows.
Played the whole game with the Steam controller without any issue, felt so native I forgot it was using proton
I used Feral's Gamemode to run the game (launch option gamemoderun %command%) and everything worked like a charm!
Click play and enjoy
Did not try local multiplayer with gamepad, but it should work without issue
__GL_THREADED_OPTIMIZATION=1 %command%
Without setting the __GL_THREADED_OPTIMIZATION=1 variable, multiplayer dropped at around 5 FPS. Setting it goes back to 80 fps like in solo
Make sure to set the __GL_THREADED_OPTIMIZATION=1 variable in your launch options if you have low fps compared to solo
Was able to play with friends running windows without issues.
Better than native version
I forgot I was using proton, that's how well it works
gamemoderun %command%
Game usually crashed after 3-4 games. Followed https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Gaming#Increase_vm.max_map_count and now it never crashes.
My computer is very close to the minimum specs but it can still run quite well with everything at low settings and FSR2 set to Quality
With 5.13-6 I had some crashes while loading quick saves. Played a bit with experimental and crashes seemed to happen less often.
Note that since the workshop update, this is the only version that works for me. I've played 20+ hours on 5.13-6, the only issue was crashes while loading quicksaves. I played a bit with Experimental but not enough to say if it is better regarding this issue.
Just click play and enjoy. Performances seem quite the same as on windows
With the default Proton the steam overlay would not work. Using GE-Proton9-25 fixed the issue.
