In order to get Warframe working in Desktop Mode with Mouse and Keyboard enabled. I had to Add Warframe.x64.exe as a non steam game along with the extra command -cluster:public -registry:Steam and of course compatability mode with Proton GE-27 More info can be found here: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3027980121
For Graphical settings : All Low settings 1280x720(for desktop mode) Cap at 60fps FSR2.2 Balanced or Performance depending on if doing open world content Enjoy.
Low Settings cap at 60fps + FSR2.2 Performance

Minor changes for taste - swapped A and X button functionality.
Recommend setting max FPS to 40 for FPS stability.

Stuck at login screen, onscreen keyboard pops up can enter email, password is inaccessible, login with steam inaccessible. I tried multiple protons-7.55, 8-22, experimental, none. As soon as automatic onscreen keyboard goes away nothing can be done. Even in desktop mode you have I have to power down my deck to be able to regain control of my deck.

Set everything to low settings and limit fps to 90. Did not use FSR though as even on Quality it looks fuzzy with any movement. Switched to DirectX 12 (Experimental) to enable HDR and it works great. I'm seeing 90fps stable on open world maps though there were nothing happening.

Kept pretty much everything the same just enabled 'Joystick as Mouse' and Gyro and changed the defaults on the Back Grips to my personal preference.
I've had a great experience with is on the deck so far. Performance is generally great but it can vary greatly depending on the scenario.
60fps is no problem to hit but for the open-world areas you will need to turn some things down, but not to the point where the game looks bad (in my opinion)
In 20 hours with it on the Deck I've never had a single crash.
SD keyboard input seems to work perfectly fine for me too.
There is an option to switch to DX12 (beta), I have only tried DX11. Testing will need to be done to see which is more performant.

for me the onscreen keyboard doesnt work (it doesnt know where my thumbs are on the track pads and jitters violently), plugging in a keyboard does nothing and any attempt to use non-controller inputs doesnt remove controller prompts like it does on windows (where it prefers mouse and keyboard and doesnt like using the controller much) and no- i cant even intteract with the "log in with steam" button. the only button it does respond to is the escape key on my keyboard and the enter key to confirm that i want to exit. (thank christ)

After a few changes to the layout to avoid carpal tunnel, I've had a blast with the game on Deck, I have ˜2900 hours on my desktop and ˜100 on the Deck and except landing headshots I haven't had a problem.

Set R4 to Melee Attack
During the New War quests, there's a prompt to "Press B", however pressing B does nothing. You'll have to open the Steam Deck's keyboard by pressing Steam + X, then repeatedly press E on the virtual keyboard.
I used to have a lot of crashes, even restarting the whole Steam Deck. Got it fixed by setting the game to use DX12 in the game's launcher, turning on 60 FPS, V-Sync, FSR 2 INGAME, while setting the Steam Deck's Frame Limiter to OFF. Have not experienced a single crash since running those settings. However, there are still some bugs where button prompts don't work. A restart of the game or using the Steam Deck's keyboard might be required as described above.

Stops with "Checking for update" and doesn't do anything.

When set to play at 40 FPS/40 Hz the game crashed very frequently, especially during the Duviri questline. The problem got better when changing to Proton Experimental but still persisted.
Was able to play through the quest line with Proton Experimental and Steamdeck set to 60 FPS / 60 Hz.
Game crashed the SteamDeck and presented me with the "Verifying Installation" boot up multiple times.
Game works fine for the most part, but frequent crashing and even restarting the Steam Deck can be quite annoying as item that are aquired during (long) missions will be lost when the mission wasn't properly finished. Needs some tinkering.
I deactivated High Shader Quality and activated FSR 2.2 in the ingame settings for the meantime in hopes for better perfomance.

60fps
Change UI to be bigger.
If you want to use HDR you need to set the game to DirectX12

12w tdp + 45hz Refresh Rate
huge amounts of stuttering in The Duviri Paradox
Crashed when using the overlay in Duviri Paradox every time. Frequest slowdown and crashes during cutscenes. Game asked to install 20gb+ of vulkan shaders, and moving this to the sd card (which was my only option having just a 64gb Deck) made the game unplayable.

Unable to connect because the game asks me to disconnect from elsewhere (?) and once I said OK, I need to type a code. What code ? No idea, not my password I tried. So I can't pass the login screen.

if you want portable pc warframe with no lag or issues besides being able to type like a switch player then you are good
played around with gyro a bit for aiming weapons and general movement and was extremely fun
docking the game in desktop mode and hooking up a controller doesn't swap that well and needs to manually swapped before launching the game in steam controller settings
DE needs to add better typing support for steamdeck

Disable V-sync in game. If you want Gyro - recommend installing "Official SIAPI with Gyro v5" controller setup
Limit to 40hz/40fps

worked flawless

Right trackpad as mouse to interact with launcher; back grip buttons bound to [1,2,3,4] for easy activation of Warframe abilities
- Break Narmer security camera controls aren't bound to any Steam Input Action Set. This required the "non-Steam Game" SIAPI workaround.
- Accepting squad invites while bottom-left text window is open causes OSK to appear. Simultanous action is caused by both actions accepting input from [x] button.
Warframe locks the player to SIAPI mode on Steam Deck. SIAPI mode means that in-game actions not bound to a Steam Input Action Set cannot be processed (ex. generic gamepad x-input) while Keyboard + Mouse is not 100% functional with game menus. Players have two options to play this game, assuming Proton-8.0 (current default):
- Warframe as is, with no custom Steam launch options, using DE's default SIAPI layout.
- Warframe as non-Steam Game with custom launch options noted above.
SIAPI mode allows Steam Input Keyboard popup to appear properly. Non-SIAPI allows KB+M and non-SIAPI input. Warframe cannot dynamically switch between SIAPI and non-SIAPI, but can dynamically switch between gamepad and KB+M in non-SIAPI mode. Pick your poison. Go here for instructions on non-SIAPI mode.

After the latest Kullervo update the launcher crashes with Proton 7. Switching to Experimental fixes the problem for the moment.

Playable, overall a better experience than the Switch port. If only this had that port's official gyro support, too.
FPS limit 60, Allow Tearing ON, TDP Limit 9-12. I've enabled half rate shading at times to save battery when playing on the go, but that makes most text unreadable and produces flickering and messes with some ingame effects in some areas of the game, so that's an "emergency" measure at best.
The launcher needs a mouse mapping to click on the "Play" button. My right trackpad is mapped to "mouse" just for this, but the touchscreen works, too.
Game can crash after prolonged sessions, ~1 hour
-cluster:public -registry:Steam
Had to run the exe through a non-steam shortcut for KB+M to work in the menus and text chat.
If your connection drops mid-mission, you may be forced to do a Host Migration and end up in a solo squad. This can be disastrous for high-level content. Double check your in-game network settings.
If you prefer gamepad controls: Game Mode works fine without any tweaks, but won't let you navigate the menus with a KB+M, or use a physical keyboard for text chat.
If you prefer Keyboard+Mouse: By adding Warframe.x64.exe
as a Non-Steam Shortcut, setting a couple launch options, and running in Desktop Mode, you can trick the game into not using its borked SIAPI integration. Be sure to rename this shortcut to make it clear it's the non-SIAPI version! (Note: This workaround resets in-game options to defaults, and breaks Steam Achievements)
Had issues with the default controller layout
Once controls were fixed, game played just fine.
Wont be the fastest to load in but will still be faster than console players.
I would consider playing around with the controls, using abilities with the current setup is clunky.
Set device refresh rate to 40Hz; disabled vsync in-game and set the FPS limit to 40 (otherwise the game will think it's lagging). Also limited the GPU to 10 watts, no game config changes needed for this.
When switching between windows, sometimes need to tap the trackpad in order to get the game to start recognizing controller inputs again.
Crash reporter opens sometimes when clicking "play" in the launcher; game runs fine regardless.
The official layout is horrible, I created my own control that uses the standard gamepad. I use the L4 for sprinting, R4 for secondary fire, and R5 for the Operator mode.
The left trackpad I used it for shortcut for abilities (1, 2, 3, 4 Square tiles) and the right trackpad is for the right joystick.
I use gyro for precise aiming and only enabled when L2 is fully pressed.
The graphic presets are given from the game itself and seem to be the best in terms of performance. I only had to scale down the resolution by 75% and disable the motion blur.
I set the TDP to 8 watts and use the 40 fps limiter. Battery life can go from 4 to 5 hours.
The launch window has to use the touchscreen to press the play button.
Things can slow down in multiplayer due to other warframe abilities or enemies' quantities. Open-world maps like Orb Vallis and Plains of Eidolon are working smoothly but Cambion Drift is where it has slight performance problems. Normal missions are fine.
When you launch the game, it greets you with a login screen. You have to type your password every time. First-time launch, you have to type your email.
Make sure to disable full screen in launcher otherwise it crashes SteamOS.
Turn off half rate shading as it messes with the UI's resolution.
Desktop/gaming mode doesn't work with mouse and keyboard.
Went through lots of attempts to fix this. The game launches in "controller mode" and currently any attempt to hide the steamdeck controller from the game won't work.
Lags in places where other players are.
It still works out the box. :) Just don't change random settings like I did lol.
I tried changing many types of proton versions including GE. Seems to be another issue elsewhere. Sometimes works if I reinstall it. But crashes afterwards.
i put the r1 to run and the left trackpad like the mouse wheel
i put 7 watts
the audio in the first scene is a bit choppy, but I think it's because I have the game on the microsd
Launcher is touchscreen only
Moved some buttons around for comfort.
Keep in mind that the initial Vulkan driver setup can take a while, but once you are in game it runs as expected.
Set right track pad's click to Left Mouse Click
FPS Limiter set to 30 FPS
You'll want to set the in game UI to a higher number.
The steam controller default assumes you are using a Hybrid keyboard and Mouse setup which can feel off compared to the game's default controller support. Using the touch screen as a mouse can feel mushy with the default UI size. I switched the Trackpad to mouse to compensate this, as well as used the in game settings to make the UI slightly bigger.
Current version of Warframe has some random stutters, but this is irrelevant to where you play it on. I can reproduce it on multiple machines across Windows and Linux.
Really this is a great game on steam deck and one of my favorites, perfect for bringing around and playing and works great out of the box
Certain controls such as stick click needed to be enabled with the official layout
The warframe launcher is required to play the game, important things to note is that if enhanced renderer, dx12 or fullscreen is enabled in the launcher the game will not start and steamos will reload itself
The game will struggle to hold 60 in end game content with busy scenes, with other players in your game especially, expects drops on almost all settings to 45 and potentially lower but these are thankfully usually 1% lows
Everything worked great
Just keep in mind that it won't hold 60fps 100% of the time and keeping on most eye candy at medium settings works quite well, very enjoyable experience overall. I only hope that perhaps with the work of the devs or newer versions of proton we can get dx12 to work, I suspect it will have a good impact on helping the game hold a constant 60fps. Steams default proton build works just fine as well for an out of the box experience, though GE has given me better performance in some scenarios. Other than that, it works great, have fun tenno!
When I got my steam deck the first game I installed was Warframe (it's my fav game) and I was surprised at how well it ran, closed the game and continued installing stuff. After trying to launch the game again it will launch the updater, but when you hit "Play" it just crashes and the OS reloads itself
This game is free to download. Plus, years worth of content available to play with. Developers are also very receptive to feedback.
I just binded the grip buttons to the power hotkeys, the left touchpad to the operator power hotkey, and the right to reload. Mouse input isn't necessary as the in-game cursor can used well enough with the analog sticks.
turn on the in-game dynamic resolution to maintain a steady frametime with whatever framerate target you're going for. With the default medium graphical preset and dynamic resolution at a 60FPS lock with gamescope, expect around 2-3 hours of battery life. Resolution was also set to 1280x720 with in-game vsync set to auto.
Do not use the official steam controller layout. The developers have phased out native steam input support since late 2020. If you do, you can't use the buttons properly with content like Railjack, operator, etc. Only xinput controllers from here on out. So we'll have to use that in conjunction with steam input emulating other controllers or keyboard & mouse.
Do not use the directx 12 backend just yet. You'll get a crash right after getting past the launcher. The enhanced rendering engine and directx 11 works well with Steam's default proton build.
Has an Official Layout for controls. Works really well but did have to reduce the sensitivity to 10%.
The second time I launched it it took a very long time to process shaders, which it was fine not doing the first time.
I will update the report if anything significant happens.
