Runs as it probably would on Windows out of the box.
Minor screen tearing in certain menus and when in Replay mode(upper rectangluar area - probably a special rendering area for the game)
Crashes the 1st time after roughly 2 hours into a game session, achieved longer conclusive run times after 2nd boot
Sometimes the game will occasionally lag due to Vulkan/Mesa shaders being cached and due to certain handovers in the game itself especially from (pre-rendered) cutscenes to normal game world. Also drawing entirely new elements in the HUD lets the game stutter for a fraction of a second
Installs and runs smoothly. Nothing major to be aware of, when trying to boot this game. 32-bit libraries are required.
Only ran on Proton 5-13.x. GTA IV is a game of the outgoing 32-bit Era and requires, as such, 32-Bit support libraries(audio, video).
Runs perfectly smooth once Proton Experimental is selected. Even the 2KLauncher runs as it would on Windows.
Runs only on Proton Experimental. All versions up to Proton 7.0 are unable to launch even the 2K Launcher.
No excessive performance problems, besides those prior existing caveats of the games outdated "Diesel" Game Engine.
mod_overrides folder needed to be created manually as well as some mods directory trees. It seems some kernels prohibit folders downloaded and extracted from the Internet to be read by the executable. The Solution was to recreate the directory tree and manually moving the affected resource files(i.e "*.stream") into their places. The successful loading of those mods can be verified in Options -> Advanced -> Mods.
Runs buttery smooth after "tweaking" aforementioned graphical settings (Reduce -ie. (TextureResolution -> "Half") - texture resolution)
Stuttering Input could be fixed by halving texture resolution
Ubuntu-based distros should use Proton 5.0-10!
Cortana supposedly does not work, although doesn't impact gameplay. In-Game push to talk has been tested and is fine.
Game Logic ("Spirit Box") fires regardless of your "spooky" talk or just pressing the button.
Don't use the native version! Borked!
Force the native Windows Version by forcing a Proton version in the Game's Properties Compatibility Tab
Proton seems not to work well with CroTeams-Engine. Native runs at an appropriate, enjoyable performance.
Proton in Wine3D-Mode uses an seemingly inappopriate driver as reported by the game. Thus heavy graphical glitches occur.
Native as well as Proton Version seem to have some optimization issues regarding level performance. Latest Proton crashes instantaneous without WINE3D-Mode
Jittering can be fixed in Native Mode by disabling V-Sync.
The native version seems to launch its own XWindow-Client. So i suspect that a proper XSession (e.g "Gnome on Xorg" at Login"screen") is required not to let it crash due to insufficient xwayland emulation by native Wayland.
Intro video a little bit sluggish when started the first time, could very well be Vulkan shaders compiling. Otherwise runs perfectly smooth.
Switching languages required a deletion of the Proton prefix(not destructive when using Steam Cloud Saves) ; seems to be a Steam on Linux problem rather than the game's(Languages are handled over Steam's repositories)
