WINEDLLOVERRIDES="wsock32=n,b" %command% (ONLY FOR MODS)
The launch option is only needed if you install SuperBLT for mod support. Mods are literally drag and drop from W*ndows if you have any laying on your "in case" drive. Otherwise download them and go wild.
The Native version is several updated behind (the download is 35GB and when you turn on proton it'll download the other 50GB of content).

Native version is basically f**ked now. Just use Proton and it runs great.

Native version works great but stopped recieving updates a while ago. Proton worked flawlessly and mods also work just like windows.

Don't use native version, switch to Proton
Simple as pressing a button

Don't install native version in under any circumstances! I downloaded native port at first, tried to join to my Windows friend - didn't work (Dead servers I guess?)
Changed it to Proton. Result? My friend and I had to wait another hour until the game downloads 40 GBs of files..

Works OOB
No issues at all in native

The game crashes or freezes when loading into certain heists, a mod called The Fixes fixes most of them though.
The game wouldn't launch under Windows for me but runs under Linux without much issue. Mods work too.

The native Linux version was abandoned and you will load a save game the moment they stopped supporting it.
If you want mods with SuperBLT, on the same page has a guide on how to install it on the proton version.

WINEDLLOVERRIDES="wsock32=n,b" %command%
Game works like native/windows using Proton. SuperBLT, BeardLib, Restoration Mod, and some HUD/outfit mods work flawlessly. Game saves from Windows downloaded fine with Proton

Works fine natively (a normal 100+FPS gameplay). Tried to run on Proton = instantly close to 1FPS.
Decided I will comeback to the game once I figure out how to make it work

Works as well as on Windows, use Proton as Native is no good, for mod support use the launch options, multiplayer works normally!
gamemoderun WINEDLLOVERRIDES="wsock32=n,b" %command% -skip_intro
Installed wsock23.dll for modding with SuperBLT
Infinite loading screens due to a mod that used to work in Windows
Running Vanilla will work very much great, you'll only need to be smart with your mods as the usual crash.txt debugging file doesn't exist which makes things very harder to debug, other than that it all runs great!

Plays just fine, the only bugs ive encountered were specific to Payday 2 this had nothin to with Proton!
Don't use the NATIVE version Change to Proton

WINEDLLOVERRIDES="wsock32=n,b" %command%
Normal PAYDAY 2 jank.
Launch arguments are to enable mods with superBLT. Strongly recommend turning down the graphics settings to minimize out of memory issues. Just PAYDAY things unfortunately.

When using two monitors, the setting to choose in which monitor to display the game did'nt do anything, so I had to go windowed mode, drag the game to my main monitor and then put it back again in fullscreen mode.
Apparently, the game have one save file for Windows and another for Linux so when I booted the game for the first time I was back at the level 1. So backup your game from a Windows instalation before migrating for Linux. After that, go to the save file folder, paste your save and rename it from "saveXXX.sav" to "linux_saveXXX.sav". Make sure to do that for every file (I had a "save001.sav" and a "save098.sav" and had to rename both of them for the game to be able to read them).
I got some constant frame drops but it got solved by itself by closing the game and openning it again.
The occasional Payday 2 crashes, which are not a Linux problem but a game problem. Once in a while your game can crash and the amount of crashes will get higher for each additional mod you or the host have.
Since it's P2P, lag and connectivity errors are based on your and the other player's Internet connection, but I was able to play with the whole America without any major issues.
You can still play the game with Proton Experimental but there will be no multiplayer (I do believe the multiplayer could exist but only with Linux players, as someone else said, but I did not test that).
Also, I had to redownload the game when I changed from the Proton Experimental to Proton GE, since I still don't know if that's normal behaviour, I'm putting this in here (I also saw some people saying that they didn't needed to redownload it and some saying that they did need to redownload it, so I would say it's better to download it with the Proton GE settings already enabled, unless you want to do some testing in the other version or if you want to play only the offline mode, which works just fine in the Proton Experimental version).
Cloud synchronization deleted my account on Windows, please be careful.

Works great OOTB.
There are crashes every now and then but this is a commom problem on Windows too (maybe even a bit worse) even with my friend with high-end PC.

All i can say is - install proton version, not native. Support for linux version was dropped a long time ago, so you'll be better off with win version

Online support has been canceled
Definitely do not use native, it will cause unnecessary internet usage, go download the proton version. I made such a mistake that I downloaded native first, now when I choose to download the proton version, it will download 33 GB for me.
You need to make sure that you have the 32-bit libraries installed for your video card or the game will fail to launch.

Works well.
The game works as intended OOTB.

It's really gonna depend on your DE or WN, switching between your windows can make the game windowed even if you were fullscreen before

Does not launch
Doesn't launch with proton-GE, or with the Steam versions of Proton, both stable and expirimental. Launch options don't seem to make a difference either.

Steam reports that the game starts but nothing appears. The game then closes.

Game doesn't launch and I have no idea why.

Multiplayer only works with other Linux users which aren't very abundant. Probably some kind of tinkering that will let you play with Windows players.

As others said - do not use Native version, it's been abandoned a while ago. Haven't spotted any problems when running via Proton

Do NOT use the native Linux version. It's old and broken: The game will fail to launch, and even if you somehow work around that, multiplayer won't work, and you're missing content updates. Instead, run the Windows version through Proton. That works great.

Was running fine before, after 240.7/240.6 game no longer launches

Plays nicely just like on windows. Don't use native linux version cause it is outdated. With mods (BLT) launcher is needed
WINEDLLOVERRIDES="wsock32=n,b" %command%
Game is working fine, I have played this game a lot on windows. Tried it on linux and it works wonderfully. Launhcer is needed if using mods. Have not tried without it

As before, will not work out of the box without tinkering, but I eventually found something.

Anyone using Arch Linux and its derivatives may find some use in this guide to install any drivers that may be missing: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1787799592
Linux version remains unsupported AFAIK, use Windows via Proton.

Didn't work out of the box due to an inability to initialize D3D in Windows ver. via Proton, will require tinkering.
Application has crashed: C++ exception Could not initialize Direct3D.

Gets to the "Press to play" and subsequently crashes. Instantly crashes/doesnt launch on older versions of GE and regular proton

Some inconsistent, small stuttering. V-Sync made my game extremely laggy, I disabled it and just set the target FPS
Haven't run into any issues with certain missions or anything, and mods should work. However, V-Sync made my game extremely laggy, I disabled it and just set the target FPS
