Crackling is incredibly infrequent. Only noticed once or twice.
Game starts windowed and will not remember full screen setting. Has to be set each launch.
Keyboard is horrible to use, but probably more to do with the game, however some controller binds were registered backwards by default?!
It works after some encouragement, but is definitely not enjoyable on mid-lower end hardware.

Entering full screen was a pain, if left using alt tab, the game had to be exited to regain control. Partially due to GPU being underpowered for 1440p display, trying to launch the game at 1080p caused all sorts of horribleness. Ended up having to play in a 1080p window on a 1440p display.
Initially joystick was not detected but going into big picture, forcing xbox compatibility on then forcing controller compatibility off for Elite Dangerous on a per-game basis (somehow) fixed the issue.
Liveries and other online items did not work from the main menu.
Attempting to use the launcher was a massive pain in the behind if the account was not properly linked before playing on linux. Seemed to solve by initiating a link request then quitting the launcher, following the link then reopening the launcher when the browser tries to relaunch it. Patience here is key.
Furthermore the game and launcher will sometimes throw up a number of "failed to launch errors" just click through these and it will still work.
Steam linux client would also sometimes freeze upon exiting the game and the game sometimes would not properly exit without rebooting the computer (or some blindfolded shotgun usage of the process monitor).
Runs perfectly, only a few controller issues.
Most controllers were detected, however Sidewinder joystick was not mappable.
No issues, just got in and picked up where I was before
Very minor crackling, however seems to go away over time.
Worked out of the box with no tweaks required
Some textures initially looked broken, but over time have appeared to correct themselves.
Sometimes Origin throws up some errors about "not being able to install the game". Just ignore these and the game will continue to launch.
Works out of the box, just as good as on windows
If you have virtual networking adapters, make sure you bring them down before trying to play online, otherwise players cannot connect and you cannot connect to others.
sudo ifconfig
to show all adapters
sudo ifconfig <adapter> down
on each virtual adapter

Video based content is broken.

Changing from keyboard to controller can sometimes break input detection. It takes some tweaking but eventually it started working.
