Works without tinkering. To use the retranslation patch:
- Download below. Link is in the introduction section.
- Extact contents to SteamApps/common/Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth3
- I opened the gui version for protontricks
- Select Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth3
- Select default wineprefix
- Select Run winecfg
- Go to libraries
- In 'New override for library', type:
- dinput8
- Cick 'Add'. Make sure dinput 8 has native, builtin.
- Click 'Apply' then 'Ok' to save and exit ( If my memory serves me right ).
- Keep clicking 'Cancel to exit'.
- Retranslation patch should work when you launch through steam. It'll display retranslation after the title in the main menu screen. Just be patient with protontricks gui has it could be slow. Some unknown guy may have better instructions me below for installing the retranslation. Its the person who has the last platinium report.
Remapped A to A and B to B as initially it was mapped as A to B and B to A. Make sure game has the external controller selected and not the steam deck controller. Both can be changed in the ingame settings.
Works with no issue
- Screen 40Hz
- V-Sync off
- CPU TDP 4W
- GPU Freq 200MHz
- In game Resolution: 640x360
Game is marked as Playable on Steam Deck probably because you have to change input method (from keyboard to gamepad) the first time you play the game
Out of box experience is playable if unremarkable framerates. Adding AMD_DEBUG=nowc %command% in launch options resolves performance problem
AMD_DEBUG=nowc %command%
Recent patches to Mesa RadeonSI drivers in 23.0.1 resolve the SAM/ReBAR extreme performance regressions. Works great out of box and better with launch option.
Turn based game, performance problems are workable, and it could be that nvidia gpus are fine.
3D sections run terribly on RDNA2 desktop GPUs, but work fine on the steamdeck. Very odd.
It worked fine on a 1060 6gb with a ryzen 2600, but not great on 6700xt with 5900x. But it works even better on the deck than any of these configurations? Very strange.

Install xact via Protontricks, otherwise sound effects won't work.
After launching, everything seems fine. But, battle sequence and dungeon navigation slows the framerate down, and some other issues.
gamemoderun %command%
Toggling the fullscreen option (from windowed) triggers a game freeze where the game could not seem to recover from.
The menus, inventory, world map, and city locations (shop, guild, etc.) works completely fine. However, frame drops from 60fps to 30fps (or lower) when going into dungeons or during battle sequences.

Very poor performance. Virtually unplayable.
Game slows to <=15fps during 3D rendered gameplay segments (adventuring/combat).
I dual boot Fedora Silverblue and Windows 11 on my desktop. Same exact hardware, just different OS. Game runs flawlessly on Windows. Used to run very well on every Linux distro I've used (including Fedora Silverblue) when I had an NVIDIA card (with proprietary driver), so it could just be an issue with AMD Radeon's open source Linux driver and this game.

The game is just working flawless on Deck, great experience and good performance with 60fps. For some reasons, A and B buttons were switched and couldn't be changed with the ingame setting so had to switch them from Steam OS setup.
Works great right out the box with Proton 7.0-1, no additional tinkering required.
Runs perfectly out of the box with Proton 6.3-4
Game runs very smooth with just using the native proton. But only works in proton 6.3.2 for now.
Crackling audio can easily be fixed w/ the launch option: PULSE_LATENCY_MSEC=60 %command%
Runs great
Would be detected most of the time but would occasionally not be detected and would need to restart the game a few times for it to detect the controller.
Works out of the box
No issues, just got in and picked up where I was before
Very minor crackling, however seems to go away over time.
Absolutely flawless
Works very well out-of-the-box with no issues
There was a very rare chance of having a mouth graphical glitch that happened a while back when I was playing.
Apply this to launch options to fix audio.
PULSE_LATENCY_MSEC=60 %command%
I recommend playing with controller.
Mostly works without issue, but may become buggy over time; restarting the application seems to solve any issues.
Usually works fine, but can sometimes have a variety of minor issues
Sometimes inputs are delayed or briefly ignored. Happens rarely.
Crashed while viewing the museum; might become unstable over long playsessions.
3 chapters in, and no significant bugs; might have some issues with garbage collection on illustrated cutscenes, as viewing the museum can be unstable.

Now it runs perfectly and straight after installation, no direct x errors. Game runs as it should. Neptools modding also works when doing a dll override with dinput8 in winecfg of the proton prefix: /steamapps/compatdata/353270/pfx/ . I ran winecfg using protontricks --gui in terminal and selecting Neptunia re;birth 3 , selecting default prefix and run winecfg from there. Then go to libraries, type dinput8 and add. It must say native, built in. You could also do this via winetricks or searching for winecfg in that /pfx prefix with your file manager. Its up to you. One such mod that worked for me was the Neptunia Re;birth 3 reranslation patch: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=727913135 . You will know it worked once the title screen shows it saying retranslation and a different font in menu. Just make sure to extract retranslation zip to steamapps\common\Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth3\ first.

This works perfectly after moving the d setup .dll to the main folder but im not sure if thats fixed in steam , because I am almost gonna rate this platinum. But gold it is. Great, another awesome neptunia game that works great in Linux and I will glady complete it there. Tons of fun and nepping.

Now runs straight after installation

Inital load will throw an error of "Unable to find dsetup.dll", and game will load with alot of issues including no sound and intro looping at a very fast rate, making it impossible to use the menus.
To fix this browse the local folder of the game and open _CommonRedist/DirectX/Jun2010/ and copy DSETUP.dll and dsetup32.dll into the main folder. Game will complete setup and run perfectly afterwords

after copying DSETUP.dll and dsetup32.dll from subfolder _CommonRedist/DirectX/Jun2010/ and pasting it into the main folder, the game works perfectly.
Huge issues with framerate, no sound in game, intro in main menu starts over and over again.

Initially, no sound and improper video loop. My fix:
- Copy DSETUP.dll and dsetup32.dll from subfolder _CommonRedist/DirectX/Jun2010/
- Paste into base folder Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth3/ After doing tweak the game runs very well.

it shows can't find dsetup.dll at startup. keep playing opening song if you didn't make some input. Sound problem, no background music, no character voice, no UI sound effect.

Fails to properly install DirectX during initial Steam launch; says "dsound.dll not found." Then there is no in-engine audio. The following attempts have NOT fixed this issue: Manually installing Xact, manually installing D3DX9_42, setting xaudio2_7 and 2_6.dll to native and\or builtin.

Intro starts over and over again. however beeing active in the menu solves that

Errors: 1) Displays dialog box "DirectX Setup: Unable to find dsetup.dll". 2) No sound except for movies. 3) Title screen to opening movie loop is very short. Performance: 60 fps gameplay. Graphics and animations look okay. Just no sound.
