Running the mf-install script detailed by other users allows the game to boot. Unfortunately it crashes following a short hang just before the intro movie would usually play.
Sometimes crashes on loading a save (during recap) and when pressing Continue. As previous reports suggest, opening the options can help with this, but is by no means guaranteed to work.
The game has crashed seemingly at random during gameplay with little to no warning, and there appears to be no particular pattern to this. Although the game runs perfectly at 60FPS in many areas, there are some places where the framerate can dramatically drop and be wildly inconsistent to the point that it's just not feasibly to play. This has been observed at "The Maw" (framerate could fling between 15-60FPS) and "The Tree Of Life" (hitting lows of around 10FPS) of the places I tested. However, other locations (notably "Shadow Gorge" and "The Spine") run perfectly without incident despite being rather large and detailed regions.
Disabling ESync gave performance that was too poor for normal play, and no graphics options (inclusive of VSync) seemed not to improve results any (changing resolution was not tested).
The startup video would also sometime be randomly garbled, but this never impacted gameplay, which has been visually perfect.
Same error window as described by other users, under both latest Proton build and 3.18-8
Performance is noticeably improved over 4.2-9; dips are still present but the overall framerate is considerably better. Unfortunately, as with previous versions, it is still not possible to enter a mission due to an infinite loading screen.
Further, this version introduces a new bug: Steam managed controllers (or Switch Pro, at least) do not behave correctly. Random inputs are fed to the game (although curiously no inputs are received during the opening FMV at all) if the controller is plugged in when the game starts. If the controller is plugged in later (but Steam configuration is still reported as successfully loaded) the game will fail to receive inputs. As such, it is no longer possible to use a controller that is not natively supported.
Everything runs perfectly gameplay-wise, regardless of settings. Solidly locked to 60FPS. This includes fishing, figures, online, etc. Replays also work as expected. However, the one exception is that prerendered videos do not play, which may or may not interfere with the story in places (not tested)
Runs perfectly fine out of the box. Performance is significantly degraded compared with Windows, as may be expected, so settings may need to be adjusted accordingly. That said, it ran perfectly acceptably even in demanding areas under rain at native resolution (1920x1200) with scaling locked to high
With the FAudio fix all audio is working correctly, although with generally poor quality and the introduction of noticeable crackle after about 15 minutes of play. Character's faces do not change from default pose, meaning that there is no lip sync to voice.
Mouse 1 and Mouse 2 behave inconsistently between menus and gameplay, meaning that swapping the controls over to behave correctly in one will make them behave incorrectly in the other. Controller does not work.
Game hangs on exit, so force quit is recommended.
Performance is perfectly acceptable with Esync disabled, so should be perfectly playable to those of you that don't mind more than a few oddities.
As with other users, audio issues were present which were fixed by disabling Esync and changing the Pulse settings. However, I also found a few other issues. Firstly, the controller will not work if connected when the game starts (assuming the controller is managed by Steam), continually inputting start once the intro movies have completed. The controller will not accept any other inputs, rendering the game unplayable. However, if you connect the controller in AFTER the game has booted it works normally, including with the correct button prompts (As opposed to the numbered ones when the controller is not functioning properly).
The other issue is that performance is slow to the point that it is to uncomfortable to play. Interestingly, the framerate is perfectly stable, but does not run at an acceptable speed for play (in addition to audio not syncing with animations due to the slow animation speeds).
My previous report (below) still stands exactly as previous on Proton 4.11-1, this includes an attempt at running under the new D9VK. Performance does appear marginally better than previously, but not significantly so and certainly not enough for most users to play comfortably.
