Sometimes alt-tabbing results in a black screen. Hitting ESC and/or alt-tabbing again fixes this
Application starts, but trying to start any video causes it to instantly crash
Works great out of the box
Did a full single player playthrough without any problems
Works great out of the box
Did a full (single player) playthrough without any issues whatsoever
Only playable with keyboard
Using a controller input is janky: analog stick movement persists a second or so after letting go
Some of the backgrounds aren't rendered correctly. These will sometimes turn ok after moving around a bit or opening and closing the menu.
Game runs great. Only issue I have encountered is in the first Shinra reactor (start of game) some of the backgrounds don't render properly.
In the first Shinra reactor some of the backgrounds don't render. Other than that the game can be played from beginning to end, no issues
Some missing backgrounds in the beginning of the game
Completed the game with all optional content, no problems
Reactor at the start of the game has some missing backgrounds
Can't alt-tab out of game, but you can switch workspace
Playable from start to finish, though installing directplay and directsound via winetricks is highly recommended
Sound effects work, music does not
Can't alt-tab out of game. Can switch workspace but that sometimes causes slowdowns when going back
Game process keeps running after quitting the game
Game can't be completed
Sometimes game has no audio, requires you to restart a couple of times
After second temple a cutscene on the boat gets stuck with two characters staring at eachother. Had to boot into Windows to get past that point.
Always had to alt+tab twice in order switch out of the game
Had one or two freezes on screen transitions but they appear to be flukes
I had a consistent freeze when the game should show one of the last cutscenes in the game and I had to boot into Windows to progress past that point
Error during first setup regarding the installation of .NET3
Playable despite missing audio
No audio whatsoever
Manager appearance editor appears glitchy. Changing one of the settings (e.g. hairstyle) fixes this
In match engine, sometimes some players will appear as artifacts instead of proper models
When playing in a widescreen resolution, the graphics are fine but mouse movement is stretched horizontally making the game really hard to control. If you play the game in windowed mode in a non-widescreen resolution everything seems to run perfectly
Game won't start
Can open the launcher but not the actual game
Compeleted one playthrough. No issues whatsoever
Generally game seems to run just fine.
On some rare occasions the game will immediately crash upon startup and take Steam with it. Just try again and it will work. Sometimes shutting down the game will still mark it as 'running' in Steam because of a leftover process that you'll need to kill manually.

Limited to 1024*768 is probably too small to be enjoyable
Game runs fullscreen but only renders in the topleft corner (old game limited to a low resolution). However, input does respect your actual screen resolution. This makes what you see different from what you actually click on.
As a workaround, I edited koh.in2 to run the game in windowed mode
Game runs but only technically; lots of stuttering and loading issues. There also appear to be some issues with shaders because the game looks very different from Windows in terms of lighting.
Furthermore, after running once Steam is stuck in an infinite update loop where it continues to queue 0kb downloads and then reinstalls the whole friggin 18GB
Game seems to run well enough. Performance suffers a little bit compared to Windows.
I considered everything perfectly playable up until i tried to get my ascendancy: lab always seems to silenty crash to desktop when loading one of the lab areas. I had to dual boot to Windows to complete lab. I haven't had this issue anywhere else but I'm only in act 3 and I expect to encounter crashes elsewhere as well
The created wineprefix symlinks steamuser/Documents to ~/Documents. However the game is run under your own username, not steamuser. As a result, sometimes you lose your personal preferences when a proton update causes a new wineprefix to be created.
Shaders or textures take noticeably longer to load than on Windows

Most users will be able to enjoy the game despite the performance issues, but the input issue is a dealbreaker
Sometimes you'll enter an area and your input will be extremely laggy or even ignored. Playing the game like this is impossible but it can usually be fixed by changing area (hopefully you're not in the lab or fighting a boss when this happens).
If you're experiencing this and you continuously click a pathway or a vendor, the game will kick you for carrying out too many actions in a short time, leading me to believe this is a networking issue.
This issue is new in delirium league.
Extreme stuttering when new effects are loaded - e.g. first time a specific spell is cast or a specific enemy spawns
Seems playable with custom Proton build
Default proton: game blinks black screen twice then stops. Game can be run with proton-5.0-7-alyx-2 but there are frequent hiccups which will probably get you killed. Switched to Proton-5.9-GE-6-ST and seems okay now
Over 300 hours played, finished the game, no issues
Starting the game with a fresh install shows you some logos then a black screen
No special tweaks used, everything seems to work just fine
Game starts in a small area of the screen in the topleft corner. Keyboard input doesn't work which means you can't progress. Can't minimize or tab out either so you need to ALT+F4 out
Game seems to start ok but you UI doesn't work. Can't type or click anything. Can't alt+tab or alt+F4 or switch desktop
Game starts but menu doesnt render correctly; you can hear sound effects by moving your mouse over buttons and clicking them but the screen doesn't refresh making it impossible to progress.
Can't alt+tab, alt+f4 or switch desktop but by using escape and enter you can exit the game.
Doesn't start. Stuck on Steam popup 'Preparing to launch...'

Can't move past loading screen. Can't alt+tab, alt+f4 or switch desktop but by using escape and enter you can exit the game.
Game defaults to windowed mode which - seeing as the game runs only in 640x480 - is painfully small. This can be remedied by forcing a fixed resolution via winecfg.
Dragging elements in the game sometimes causes graphical artifacts which really hinders gameplay
Dragging items in the game causes graphical artifacts to appear. These can be resolved by forcing a refresh of the area e.g. by closing and opening the window again. Forcing the window to fullscreen via my window manager (which results in the game in the topleft corner and the rest of the screen being black) pretty much 'fixes' this.
3D space battles immediately cause the game to crash.
Game has been completed multiple times with autoresolve of space battles.
Mouse sensitivity is really high whenever starting the game. You can either change your resolution to everytime you start the game to fix this - or set the sensitivity to minimum so it doesn't matter
Works like a charm
Did a whole playthrough without any issues whatsoever
Game runs just fine including workshop mods. Only issue is the game crashes completely when you try to quit. Instead it's easier to alt+tab out and force quit the game via terminal or system monitor
Occasional game crash when trying to exit to desktop. You then need to kill the process manually.
Mods (via ingame mod menu) work just fine. Also managed to run SKSE by replacing the launcher
