The only issue without mf-install was missing cutscenes. Gameplay itself worked fine and I played for a few hours after initially starting the game in windows (just to get over the initial cinematic as it was getting stuck on linux)
After mf-install all the cutscenes started working and the game is fully functional now.
https://github.com/z0z0z/mf-install Took me a while to figure out how to use the repo so here is the command that finally worked for me:
WINEPREFIX="/home/steam/steamapps/compatdata/774361/pfx" PROTON="/home/steam/steamapps/common/Proton 4.11" ./mf-install.sh -proton
/home/steam
is my steam library so that part will be different for you
Proton 4.11
is the current version of proton I use for the game. Select different folder there if you use other (hopefully newer in the future)
Stutters are a little bit annoying but tolerable
Very minor occasional stutters. Still found it less of a hassle playing with them than rebooting into Windows. Also today I have updated my kernel from 5.3.18-1 to 5.4.6-2 and the frequency of stutters seemed to have decreased but some are still there. I haven't tested the game on windows to determine if this is coming from Proton or game itself. Currently playing on Max settings on 144 Hz
Game runs flawlessly
NVidia driver update 495
made the game crash on startup with a failed to allocate video memory
error.
You can download the 470
driver from NVidia's website and install it via the downloaded script. The game will launch after that so you can decrease some graphical settings and then update back to latest. My in-game settings were using something like 6100/6300 MB
The game is very buggy itself. I have compared with how it runs in windows and have not noticed anything new in Linux. Same game bugs. Besides those the game just runs out of the box with no additional issues
After they fixed anticheat crashing on startup the game runs almost flawlessly in offline mode only
gamemoderun %command%
The screen blinks occasionally for literally a frame. Doesn't happen too often or I just stopped noticing it as it is so brief
Works perfectly out of the box
The game used to not detect my PS4 Controller (when I tried to play it ~year ago). No issues now and it just works
Runs perfectly. Only had a full game freeze like once or twice. The only issue compared to Windows is that in Linux when I assign or take dwelled to/from rooms I have to click/let go slightly above the room as the targeting is a bit off. Can on occasion assign dweller to a room below if aiming for the center of the room. Quite minor inconvenience and totally playable.
Stuttering is quite a bit annoying but still playable
Vulkan throws an error DirectX has some minor stuttering
Cannot get past the initial loading screen
The game stays on the loading screen with no progress. (loading animations continues playing) After trying the mf-install and/or Proton-6.9-GE-2 it started freezing on the loading screen instead (the loading icon stops animating)
Update version: v1.0.225 of the game fixed the infinite loading screen for me and I was able to get into the main menu and start playing
Intro cinematic was still broken but allowed me to skip it in-game with no problems
No issues spotted after playing 2 full scenarios
Did not notice any issues post the into
Black sky during intro cinematic
Close to perfect out of the box
The sky blacked out only once during into cinematic. Didn't occur since
Weirdly once on the main menu the controller starts working some seconds after the keyboard and mouse. It kicks in after about 10 seconds works fine afterwards. I am using PS4 wired
Not enjoyable without sound
Game runs smoothly but there is absolutely no sound
Quite good performance - 9/10
Very mild stuttering usually at load of new areas. Goes away quite quickly and the game then runs smoothly. Cut-scenes are mostly flawless with occasional minor stutters. Very playable so far
Mild stuttering first few hours of play but then went away almost completely
On the first launch of the game the main menu took forever to load with the running Ori loading animation being frozen for the majority of the time. The game was occasionally stuttering especially when entering new areas but after a few hours of play the stuttering went away almost completely. Now 5 hours in and the game runs close to perfect. There is still an occasional frame drop but mostly it runs smoothly.
System mouse cursor seems to persist in main menu in full-screen mode
Froze on exit the first time so had to kill theprocess. Second run was perfect with no issues
run erfectly like it was native. Completed the game with 100% achievements start to finish in Linux. The only problem is that the game doesn't prevent sleep so have to move mouse every few runs.
If you can live with occasional stuttering and restarting the game every few hours then it is still a great experience.
Game stutters quite often which is especially annoying when trying to land on narrow ledges. Also after an hour or two of continuous play the camera movement becomes unbearably choppy requiring a game restart. All is quite tolerable but this behaves worse than most other games on Proton. Proton-5.9-GE-2-MF does not seem to make a difference
Runs flawlessly out of the box on Manjaro, when tried on Linux mint I did notice some minor frame loss.
Gameplay is perfectly fine
The loading screen looks frozen and does not move at all. But after a while the game loads and plays without any issues.
It was stuttering too much before but just started working with no issues if you ignore the loading screen freeze
