Runs perfectly, no tinkering required
Played a bunch with my friends, no problem at all.
Voice chat works normally
The audio crackled, but it only happened once.
protontricks
+ Proton 5.0
I had to downgrade Proton to 5.0, and also apply
$ protontricks 359320 -q dotnet40 win
After that, the game ran perfectly!
Found no significant problem
I've experienced some slowdown during Steam Remote Play, but I believe that is due to my PC's specs
Overwall worked, but I have to work around the USB HID crash problem every time I want to join a game
Game kept crashing as soon as it tried to use my USB microphone.
Solution
- Unplug the USB microphone before joining a game
- After having connected to the game, I could replug it. Game worked just fine afterwards
Game is playable, menu controls felt a little bit confusing.
Fullscreen kept switching back to primary display after alt-tabbing
Menu controls were a little bit erratic
Kept crashing after splash screen on native, Proton GE 8, Experimental and Proton 7.
Switching to Proton 5.13 fixed it
Runs perfectly, no tinkering required, modding worked just fine
Steam got stuck on the first-time install script
I got stuck on "Launching", it kept trying to run the install script. The script would either hang on "Microsoft DirectX" or "UE4 Prerequisites" (or something like that).
Solution
- Manually deleted wine prefix (on
steamapps/compatdata/1144200
) - Manually deleted the shader cache (on
steamapps/shadercache/1144200
) - Selected
GE-Proton 8-4
as compatibility tool - Installed the following protontricks:
protontricks 144200 d3dcompiler_43
protontricks 144200 d3dx11_43
protontricks 144200 vcrun2019
- Tried to launch the game again (but it got stuck again)
- Manually killed the script's processes
- Something like
pkill -i -f 'ready or not'
ought to work
- Something like
- Now the game status changed to "Running", but nothing actually happened
- Restarted Steam and it finally launched properly
Still have to try it with friends, but single player seemed to work just fine. I enabled FSR on Ultra Quality and lowered the resolution scale to around 80%. This gave me consistent 70 fps
Native version worked pretty well. I was able to survive for one year without facing any bugs
gamemorerun %command%
Voice chat works only for output
I could hear all players, but couldn's speak. Perhaps because I use pipewire
with the Pulse server?
Food texture flickers during transition between cooked states
Radial menu hotkeys were inconsistent
While having a radial menu open, pressing the key for a secondary menu is inconsistently detected (such as F for switching to the instruments menu, or Space for quests). I noticed I have to spam the key while moving the mouse, otherwise it just simply doesn't register.
Had 2 or 3 crashes in 16+ hours of play
See aforementioned voice chat issue
I still have to play more to give a decisive answer.
There was a glitch where chunks of the ocean did not render in normal view (as opposed to map view), so the game somewhat looked like when Minecraft is trying to load chunks. That was during nighttime, I'm not sure if it always occurs during the night because I haven't played that much yet.
Even with recommended hardware, the game was pretty slow.
This might be a problem with the game itself though, so future optimizations might fix this.
Slight workaround
I found these adjustments improved the performance noticeably:
- Reduce the resolution
- Disable steam overlay
- Set launch options:
gamemoderun %command%
I ran this on Proton Experimental (current stable proton version is 5.13
)
Couldn't start on Proton Experimental, 7, 6 or GloriousEggroll
On Proton Experimental the game would launch just fine but crash before loading the main menu. After installing and setting up Proton GE, it ran just fine.
