Just simply pressed play and played a session with no issues.
Other then the typical expected lag with generating vulkan shaders, which went away quickly. Game runs as if it was on Windows. Steam Cloud seems to work fine and I was able to get back to my savegame.
Audio Tweaks
Mod Support: Try using a launcher created by Muttleyxd. This allowed me to get mod support for my game. https://github.com/muttleyxd/arma3-unix-launcher
Audio sounded very choppy and crackled a lot. It stuttered a lot and sounded very low quality too depending on the type of sound source. On heavy scenes, the audio cut out for seconds before coming back. From reading other reports, this appears to be a common issue.
Try other audio fixes first. If those don't work try using WINEDLLOVERRIDES="xaudio2_7=n,b" %command%
In the game's launch options via steam. This fixed my audio issues described later. Thank you to the people who have recommended this fix. All the other audio tweaks weren't working.
This Anti Cheat won't work in Linux atm and as such you won't be able to play any MP servers that require this.
However from my testing, servers that don't require it should work fine. Mod support should also work in these servers that require mods.
Online play should be decent. The public server list does display properly and correctly. The friends list does work and allow you to connect to private servers if you wish.
Steam overlay was also working in my testing.
Don't use the Arma 3 Native Port. From what I hear it is a bad port and is outdated. The proton/windows version is much better.
Performance is about the same or a tad better. I hadn't noticed decreases in my general framerates. Your millage will vary.
It works, out of the box, starts and able to play.
Some crackling can be heard when the game is at a heavier load.
Black screen flickering depending on the scene, mostly noticed on gridmap, can be fixed by setting up a sync. (Seems to be caused by Wayland)
Playable but for sure noticed a degradation in performance compared to when running it via WIndows 11.
CPU and GPU is underutilized. Running the physics benchmark shows a low score compared to the windows system which got much higher scores
It runs "fine" for the majority of uses, but if you are planning to use traffic (even on simplified vehicles) it may have a difference depending on the hardware. Tried Vulkan native and DXVK. Also like others, I noticed a heavier ram usage then normal.
I'm still going to give this a slight performance problem, since again the game runs, it's very playable and for the most part runs fine.
Mods work perfectly fine.
Works right out of the box. Install and play.
With the current proton versions, this game seems perfectly able to run under proton without issues. Simply install and play. No tweaks needed.
While I do have "Proton Default" listed, you can do that or use a version like Proton 5.13-4
Regardless, this game should work right out of the box.
Does not launch/run at all. Opens up and then closes
Program did launch successfully once, and it was working until it crashed and won't work anymore.
When it was working Steam Cloud saves and retrievals do not work properly at all and will crash the program. Some graphical glitches with the menu's when changing padding etc.
This may have just been caused by the steam cloud issue mentioned above, but the error message that it crashes with is referring to Invalid Token Found while parsing value
from within the program.
Native build randomly at one point stopped working completely and refused to launch. Switched to proton version and it's been fine since.
Tried re-verifying files with no luck and restarting computer before switching to proton.
I guess reinstalling would fix it but it's not an issue. GE-Proton seems to work perfectly fine with this game and I would assume official proton builds would work fine.
Worked right out of the box, don't use Proton. Stay Native. Runs great.
Mods work perfectly fine, multiplayer mods work fine as well.
Native runs fine, use native only. Proton version causes mod issues and conflicts.
Native Black Screen - Doesn't work it seems.
At least for me, switching to various proton versions made no difference and would result in crash messages or closing on start.
Game straight up just doesn't work on my system. I tried using different proton versions like 6.3-1 and 5.13-6
It tries to launch, doesn't open any windows, then steam marks it as not running.
Doesn't appear to be working on my system. Tries to launch then closes. Tried all current versions of Proton with nothing fixing the issue.
This game should be labeled less then a gold.
Refused to even launch, completely broken for my system.
Tried some of the methods listed to get the game working and no luck.
Runs with default settings, performance is about the same on Windows, or a bit better.
Mods work fine, no graphical glitches. Very good out of the box experience.
Download and Install Ubisoft Launcher to get the game working via solution posted by Speedy905 below.
The game will refuse to launch due to Ubisoft Launcher not being installed by requirements.
Ubisoft as of yet has not enabled support for EAC proton support in general from what I have seen.
It is also unable to connect to the ubisoft servers properly. However some tweaks mentioned on protondb might be able to get that part working. I hadn't tried it yet.
Runs fine, is quite fun but some audio artifacts
Very loud random high pitched noise, seemed to happen at the start of the game and at random depending on the clip.
No issues with MP.
Not sure if this is just an audio system related issue, but the high pitch random noise are very loud. Thankfully doesn't seem to happen all the time.
Note: It is important to keep in mind that performance issues are likely just related to the game just being released. This is not reviewing the game itself.
But instead reviewing linux runtime performance, a big issue that is present on Linux, or what appears to be, is that completely no, sort of FSR, DLSS or XeSS appears in the game's settings, not sure why this is, but the same seems to happen on the steam decks too.
This is not present on Windows. I also noticed the option missing on a steam deck video I watched.
The only options for resolution wise was via dynamic resolution which doesn't make much difference.
Due to this, the game could not get over 40 fps with very low settings and was very jittery at 1080p or 720p (lowered from 1440p)
