You will need latest Proton GE to play it.
Stutters
Proton GE could NOT configure the initial launch. After downloading you will need to use Proton Experimental or Proton 6(The latest Steam version) to configure it first. Then it will NOT run with Steam Proton. Then you need to run it through Proton GE. It is messy, but it works.
In-game, I had stuttering issues, but the FPS otherwise is fine. Activated DX12 as others suggested. No stuttering occurred after that.
It just works
Works without tinkering, use either Steam's Proton or Proton GE, both works.
This game runs flawlessly but controller detection is rigged and you need to tweak Steam settings.
DXVK_ASYNC=1 PROTON_NO_FSYNC=1 gamemoderun %command%
Need to use template Gamepad for Controller - Desktop Configuration or controller won't work.
Have not kicked by EAC in all my co-op instances.
PROTON_ENABLE_NVAPI=1 PROTON_USE_SECCOMP=1 gamemoderun %command%
You have to set Desktop Mode to use Gamepad like other people suggested to use a gamepad to play the game
The game randomly crashes during the game, most notable when loading into other people's worlds. The fix is adding a line in the /etc/security/limits.conf file Faust mentioned, check the link he provided.
Sometimes disconnects but that may have been my problem
Run in proton, forget native.
The game does not have fullscreen setting, and for the native version, fullscreen shortcuts cannot be used (Alt+F11 or Alt+Enter).
Native version detected my 8bitdo Pro 2 controller, presumably through Steam. Displays controller schemes (Such as press A to start). However, the game does not respond to controller inputs. Controller support in proton is perfect.
Frequent crashes, no proper working full screen. I will wait until fixes arrive before I proceed.
The game starts up as full-screen. However, it was stuck and I had to alt-tab out of the screen to proceed. Then when the opening cutscene is over, I went to settings to set the game to Windowed. The game is playable then. If you're stuck on "Warning" screen like me, try alt-tab out of the screen, then when the game asks you to press anything, click, then alt-tab back when it freezes.
Does not even have 60fps with my hardware in medium graphics
In Chinese, words are a bit too small on steam deck. Not illegible, but not nice to read.
I also used Proton 9.0(Beta) from Steam, also works flawlessly.
Proton-6.19-GE-2 GloriousEggroll
Runs smoothly with Proton GE 6.19-2, Steam's Proton doesn't work. Stable fps, stays 144fps. But the game startup is slow, and may have stutters when loaded into the map.
Also, control scheme is messed up for Xbox controllers, you may need to tweak that to match that of Switch Pro's control scheme.
Proton 7.0rc3-GE-1 GloriousEggroll
Proton GE
You may experience constant shader compiling, also slight stutter when loading quests or when quest is finished. No observable stutter in other portions of the game.
The steam deck's shit wifi chip was all the problem.
Installs, but runs with a white screen
Tried everything I could to get this game running, to no avail. Even with Proton GE and the usual tweaks, starts up very slow, then shows a white screen.
Well, same as the base game, you need to remap the buttons if you want the official layout and if you are using Xbox controllers
Aiming on the deck is just too difficult. Use a mouse if you can.
It is quite hard to aim with a controller. Use a mouse, really.
Kinda bad optimizations
With my 3060Ti, playing with Epic and High Graphics settings make FPS drop drastically to single digits of 3 to 5 fps, although the visuals aren't very good. Played with Medium, fps fluctuates but is acceptable at 100+ fps.
Tune down graphics if you experience big FPS drops. FPS will drop constantly even when using lower settings. Optimizations are still to be done.
With an Nvidia card you don't have to do anything, but I loaded into a white screen as with everyone else when using an AMD card.
Good performance out of the box. No other tweaks required as of now.
Enjoy the steamy actions.
No cloud save is enabled for the game. You cannot sync progress between PC and SD automatically.
Alternate camera mode needs fixing, otherwise nice experience ootb.
In alternate camera mode the cursor/pointer would randomly jump when aiming down sight.
Only crashed once and that was due to me alt-tabbing too much. Great performance otherwise.
