Works perfectly out of the box.
Works perfectly at max graphical settings, at 4k resolution. No tinkering of any kind. I played only for 2.5 hours, though. Currently it is using proton 9.0.3, which is the latest standard version.

It runs perfectly at 4K highest quality, with the said "launch options" and Proton experimental. I did not try multiplayer. I tried a few others proton versions, including from GloriousEggroll, and nothing worked.
All the textures of all the NPCs are missing when you are closer than two meters.
When exiting from the game, it hangs, although it does not affect the whole PC. I can alt+tab and stop it, or close Steam and reopen it.
To install it, I had to go to "Compatibility -> Force" Proton 8 (I think any would do). To actually play, I had to got to "Compatibility -> Force" Proton Experimental. I only played two hours, and it ran perfectly at 4K, maximum graphical settings.
It does not start.
It seems to be installed. When I click "Play" it becomes "Stop" for a few seconds. Then it reverts to "Play". I tried with all the versions of Proton, and also Steam Linux Runtime. I tried all three options between base game, "Horizon", "Commanders's pack". I only tried via Steam. So, no Wine, no Lutris, nor anything not bundled with Steam. I run the latest Linux Fedora (31) fully updated. The graphics card is the AMD based Sapphire Nitro 5700 xt. The graphics drivers are the ones from the Fedora repositories. I can play all my other games on this same setup, at 4k resolution. F.e. Warframe, Total war warhammer (1 and 2), Ashes of the singularity, Sins of a solar empire, Skyrim SE.
It works perfectly on Fedora 31 with these instructions. Sapphire 5700 xt nitro i7 4700 Corsair vengeance 32GB Enermax triathlor 650W

I cannot edit or remove my old post, of when it was not even installing.
It does start.
I followed the instructions with proton 5.13-2 and protontricks. The first time it started fine. I set the graphical settings and restarted the game. This second time it took 30 minutes to install directx and then exited. Third time same thing. Fourth time, always also restarting Steam and verifying local files, it did not show anything for 35 minutes, so I clicked "stop" and it stopped immediately. The CPU load was unaffected. Therefore it was doing nothing. Fifth time, like the forth time. This is when I gave up. It is promising for the future though. I will try again, sooner or later.

Without enforcing proton 6.3-8 it does not start. I tried some other versions, including the latest form eggroll, including some launch options.
Perfect out of the box. 4k resolution.
I only played ME1 for two hours. It is perfect out of the box, at 4k resolution.
On Linux you can buy it and download it, but you cannot play it.
The only thing that shows up is Origin.
It does something and then renders the PC unusable.
My PC is powerful and updated.
I tried with multiple versions of Proton, including from GloriousEggroll.
After 28 minutes of "play" I asked for a refund.
I already did the mistake in the past, to try to fix some games and then having to pay for them because I "played" more than two hours.
Besides, I own the game, because I bought it when I was still using Windows.
I just could not play it on Linux because of Origin.
I thought, "OK, let's buy it again now that it works on Linux."

I fixed it as follows.
I opened a terminal as the "root" user.
Then I issued the following commands.

I launched the game.
Finally I could assign the wheel "turning left" and "turning right", and it worked in the race.
The next time I did not do the above and it still worked, which buffles me, but who cares.
After two days of playing, it still works.

Logitech wheel g29 does not work. It worked for a while. I tried the old solutions and others.

Works perfectly out of the box. Nice game too. Even at 4k resolution, only the menus use 4k. All the rest (map, characters) is extremely low resolution. Still nice though, because the strategy is there. It is very similar to Heroes of might and magic 3, but with more choices and strategies. The music is nice.

I only played for three hours. So far, it ran smoothly at ultra settings. I did not change anything anywhere. Therefore no "compatibility" proton is "enforced". I don't know if that means that it runs "native".

I did not change anything, other than setting the graphical settings at "ultra" at 4k resolution ("100% desktop resolution" option). It runs very smoothly. I fought in space and on land, although only for three hours so far. Therefore, no "compatibility" option is checked. (I never understood if that means that it uses the latest proton or that it does not use proton.)

I did not change anything, other than setting the graphical settings at "ultra", and the resolution at 4K ("100% desktop resolution" option). Therefore, no "compatibility" option is checked. It runs very smoothly. I played for ten hours so far, including fighting in space and on land. I suggest to whom has an Nvidia card to use one from AMD. All problems reported here come from these people. Nvidia does not provide drivers. This creates problems not only in this game.
It works perfectly without checking "Force the use of a specific Steam Play compatibility tool. Sorry for my ignorance but I don't know if that means that it does not use proton. And I guess I am not alone. So I thought well to post it here.

I ran: dnf install p7zip-plugins protontricks
Then I installed the latest skse64 from https://skse.silverlock.org/, following their instructions.
Then I installed: mod organizer 2 from: https://github.com/rockerbacon/modorganizer2-linux-installer following their instructions.
Then I installed three mods, including racemenu, and they worked perfectly.

Native instead sometimes hangs, at least during battles. Other times it becomes so slow to be unplayable. It did not corrupt the save though. Until a week ago, Proton experimental was working without launch options. Now it exits before showing anything. Same for GloriousEggroll 7-29.

Until yesterday it was working with proton 6.8. Today it did not start. Proton experimental worked perfectly with the "gamemoderun %command%" launch options. I did not try without.
Works perfectly. So does The protectors.
It works perfectly out of the box. After a while I discovered "The protectors", which is the same game but improved. Download it and unzip it. Replace the content of the "Warlords Battlecry III" directory where WB3 is installed. Rename "the protectors.exe" to "Battlecry III.exe".
Ran perfectly for 100 hours. After a recent update, it freezes every now and then.

Work fine native for 100 hours until 10 days ago. Now occasionally CTD
Since around 2022-11-17 (ten days ago) it occasionally crashes to desktop, and asks for permission to send a crash report. Reloading allows to continue. Previously it worked perfectly for 100 hours. I only played the campaign and did not finished it yet.
It ran perfectly for 100 hours. Now it crashes every few minutes towards the end of any match.
Ones I saved just before it crashed. Reloading that save 5 times always crashed immediately.
Native is the only one that starts. It ran perfectly for 100 hours. During the following 60 hours, it crashed to desktop on every map that I played on the campaign, and also on a skirmish 1vs1 in single player. It crashes towards the end. Even on maps with only 20 units. I unistalled, deleted all directories, installed, to no avail.
I tried Proton 6.3-8. It shows a popup entitled "Error starting Chobby". Closing it reverts to "play".
All of the following versions: GE-Proton7-42 Proton Experimental Proton-Next (7.0-5) Proton 7.0-4 make the "Play" button become "Cancel" for a few seconds and then it reverts to "Play".
Runs perfectly on native out of the box.
They update this game very often. Their support via discord https://discord.com/channels/278805140708786177/432874986064052235 is amazing. I had recurring crashes and they patched the game and fixed it :O The only problem now is that I cannot stop playing it
