If it doesn't appear to start at first, don't give up. Just restart and try again
Takes multiple tries to start the game. Maybe 5 or 6 times before the game actually starts. However once ingame there's no issues beyond what I'd experienced on Windows, only rare crashes.
I should probably look into why it's not working on my end more.

sometimes the GPU would switch to integrated, restart helps
identical to windows performance

Make sure to disable your integrated GPU just in case the game tries to use it. Otherwise works fine
Borderless window in general behaved strangely. The game would not appear to update (like when opening a menu) unless alt-tab was used to refocus on the window.
In borderless window, sometimes crashed when I tried to alt-tab. Also had some issues starting. Otherwise nothing that I didn't experience when playing on Windows as well.
Turns out the launch options I had before where placebo. Though if you do have your integrated GPU enabled, try the launch options out if no matter what you try the game doesn't work.

DRI_PRIME=0 %command%
It may be possible to play without the launch options, but in my experience I've had issues with the game starting. Sometimes it works, sometimes it didn't, and when it did there wasn't any Steam account linking. Note that for some reason when I exit the game, Steam still thinks I'm playing so I have to manually stop it on Steam. Weird, but it's not a major issue.
After you have downloaded, make sure you use the "verify game integrity" function in Properties>Installed Files so that it downloads all of the files and (crucially) bits of the Steam Linux Runtime 1.0 & 2.0, then force it to run with Steam Linux Runtime 1.0.
Runs perfectly on native out of the box.
They update this game very often. Their support via discord https://discord.com/channels/278805140708786177/432874986064052235 is amazing. I had recurring crashes and they patched the game and fixed it :O The only problem now is that I cannot stop playing it
It ran perfectly for 100 hours. Now it crashes every few minutes towards the end of any match.
Ones I saved just before it crashed. Reloading that save 5 times always crashed immediately.
Native is the only one that starts. It ran perfectly for 100 hours. During the following 60 hours, it crashed to desktop on every map that I played on the campaign, and also on a skirmish 1vs1 in single player. It crashes towards the end. Even on maps with only 20 units. I unistalled, deleted all directories, installed, to no avail.
I tried Proton 6.3-8. It shows a popup entitled "Error starting Chobby". Closing it reverts to "play".
All of the following versions: GE-Proton7-42 Proton Experimental Proton-Next (7.0-5) Proton 7.0-4 make the "Play" button become "Cancel" for a few seconds and then it reverts to "Play".
Work fine native for 100 hours until 10 days ago. Now occasionally CTD
Since around 2022-11-17 (ten days ago) it occasionally crashes to desktop, and asks for permission to send a crash report. Reloading allows to continue. Previously it worked perfectly for 100 hours. I only played the campaign and did not finished it yet.
Ran perfectly for 100 hours. After a recent update, it freezes every now and then.
It ran fine for 100 hours. After an update, arout November 17, it started freezing every now and then.

Ran perfectly.
Runs Perfectly Native
No issues

Native game runs well. No issues noticed.

Except from the KDE panel overlapping problem, the game runs perfectly fine.
KDE's plasma panel is overlayed over the game. Can solve this by running the game in a window.
Great OOTB experience
Overall it runs nicely out of the box, given decent hardware it should run without issues
Mostly construction beams are missing at some zoom level
Given the hardware at late stage of the match FPS is in single digits

Impossible to even get in your library and therefore download and play, steam only says "invalid platform" when attempting.

Tested it after updating Proton to 4.2-5 and Xubuntu to 19.04. Now it finally works out of the box, without problem. Played 2 matchea, one singleplayer and one multiplayer with matchmaking.

Working perfectly out of the box.
As has been mentioned by others, it doesn't start with Proton, and the Linux/Mono version is no longer working.

Currently Does not start even using Zero-k_Linux64.sh. Publisher has temporarily dropped native Linux support due to missing Steam quality requirements for publishing.

Doesn't even start

Need to run it directly with ~/.steam/steam/steamapps/common/Zero-k/Zero-K_linux64

Running directly out of the box not possible, but if you start ~/steam/steamapps/common/Zero-K/Zero-K_linux64.sh it will work (steamoverlay actually broken)
