No issues! Multiplayer was super smooth.
Runs awesome! Cutscenes are great, graphics are great, solid 144 FPS (native vsync'd framerate) with render resolution lowered slightly, multiplayer was smooth.
Couldn't even open the game.
TL;DR: If you're a Linux user, give the game more time, it's not yet ready!
With it being pre-release and without much Linux support, I didn't expect much in the first place, however, after waiting 25 minutes with Steam saying ''Playing'' while the game silently never opened (yet Wine was certainly running in the background), I couldn't even reach the main menu, nevermind playing online. I'll try playing again in the future perhaps when the game is further polished!
Steam Workshop maps were failing to load into the game, seemingly being ignored, so I took the route of:
- Download the workshop map. (Zombies Rust map, in my case).
- Open the Steam workshop files and copy the map directory.
- Create a 'usermaps' directory in the Black Ops 3 steam installation dir.
- Create a 'zone' directory within the above usermaps dir.
- Copy the entire contents of the Workshop map into this 'zone' dir.
- Launch BO3 and then my custom Zombies map was recognised, hurrah!
Alt-Tab in fullscreen mode is a bit buggy, it has to be done twice; the first one loses the game focus but it remains in fullscreen, the second alt-tab finally focuses on the other desired window.
Very occasional crashes, however this was only experienced on a modded map with custom files. So this might be entirely void for the 'standard' game, ignore this if you're not interested in mods! The game runs flawlessly for hours otherwise.
Buttery smooth multiplayer, nothing less!
Played co-op split-screen across Steam remote play on a modded Zombies map. I actually can't believe how well it played considering all the arbitrary factors. Perfect-o!
The game overall runs absolutely awesome! And the minor issues I experienced would not put me off from recommending this to an average player. Minor issues only begin to arise once you start messing with mods or files.
The main menu has the most substantial graphical artifacts, making text and buttons very difficult to read, but in-game is completely fine, even the in-game pause menu is fully functional, and you can edit any settings within there fine.
I'm very surprised it runs AT ALL! The game runs mostly perfect, but with menu text which is completely scrambled, like a missing font or texture file, if you do manage to navigate the into the campaign, the game should run PERFECTLY!
Runs absolutely flawless natively.
CS:GO is one of the most seamless games I've tried on Linux, not a single fault, it also performed better out-of-the-box on the same hardware than it did when I played it on Windows.
I would definitely say CS:GO is BETTER to play on Linux (for the average gamer) than Windows, I mean, I managed to play CS:GO (with multiple other programs running) without even touching 5GB of RAM, at over 300hz, that's absolutely crazy, super optimised and efficient!.
Suddenly the game has become unplayable!
The game was previously (only DAYS ago) working on my machine in Native form, however recently (possibly after a Steam / CS:GO update) the game cannot even open, upon trying, I get a black CS:GO window for about 5 seconds before it simply crashes silently.
I've tried:
- Native.
- Proton Experimental.
- GE-Proton7-14
- All of the above with settings:
-novid -nojoy
, as well as attempting to delete video files.
None of the above has worked in the slightest, unfortunately, the game has suddenly become unplayable! A shame, as when it did work, CS:GO felt like one of the most seamless games on Linux! I hope good 'ol Valve are able to figure this out pronto, no CS:GO for me until then.

Performance seems a 'tad' slower than expected, however it's still entirely playable and doesn't seem to have any hitches, so I'm only dealing with a reduced, but playable FPS, will continue experimenting and report if any improvements are found.
In a default install, it seems Elden Ring (on my setup) simply couldn't connect at all to any multiplayer service, it couldn't get past the login, with 'Failed to login to the Elden Ring server'.
Here's what I did to fix it:
- Switch to Proton Experimental (as a forced compatibility setting).
- Open the Proton Experimental properties, Betas tab, and select 'Bleeding Edge'.
- If Elden Ring was previously launched, nuke it's 'compatdata' directory, which can be found at:
steamapps/compatdata/
wherever your game is installed. Delete the1245620
directory, which is the Elden Ring directory.
After these steps, if you didn't have Online play or Login before, you SHOULD be able to login and play online! I tested with a PVP duel, and I got rekt.
Overall, if you're willing to put ~30m of tinkering into the game, it's absolutely possible to get a smooth and fun, fairly consistent online-play experience. If you're not willing to tinker, you may be stuck to only singleplayer, without access to summoning, messages or bloodstains.
If you ARE willing to tinker, then Elden Ring might be super fun for ya! Try out some different configs, see what works, what gives best performance, and what makes Online play more seamless, my config my not work for everyone, but try variations of it.
Try finger, but hole.
Multiplayer is perfect, in fact, I actually played in the 2022 Spring Tournament through Proton. Team RNGesus ftw!
Couldn't ask for a better game to play. Eximius runs buttery smooth through all Proton builds I tried. Absolutely worth a shot for anyone to try.

AI 'voice recognition' is not functional yet, but this was not game-breaking at all.
The tutorial gifs/videos were broken, with a strange pink texture and crunchy audio.
Perfect multiplayer! Not a single issue, the in-game voice chat was crystal clear, and infact the mic filters make the game feel extremely immersive, top quality multiplayer / COOP mode!
This is one of the most hassle-free indie games I've played on Linux through Proton: the performance was top-notch, without hitches or any gameplay bugs, the CO-OP is immersive, the networking is great even on bad connections like mine.
Thanks to the glorious FSR, I managed to drop my GPU usage down to 50% while maintaining a whopping 90+ FPS playing this game, on high graphics settings, with a slightly smaller (upscaled) resolution.
I do not have a single major complaint about the game, if you'd like a coop horror game on Linux, this is your bet!
Multiplayer ran perfectly smooth, played in a full 4v4 match without a single hitch, 144 FPS solid, not a single difference from native Windows gameplay.
The game ran perfectly alike to the native Windows build, no loading issues, no online issues, no configuration needed whatsoever, I'm only running Proton-GE out of 'habit' but I don't believe it made a difference, the game was excellent!
Some clips appear missing, but are extremely minor & aren't a disturbance to gameplay at all!
Perfect multiplayer: even on slower internet speeds, this game runs absolutely flawlessly, one of the best multiplayer FPS games I've ever played on my net speed + hardware, hands down.
This is one of the most native and least-buggy games I've ever played through Proton, for my hardware, it shocks me that I can play at a solid 60+ FPS, lightly using FSR, without any lag spikes or drops, and without my temps flying through the roof.
These devs (and graphics designers) did a wonderful job of this game!
I got over it, on Linux!
Game runs flawlessly! Not a single issue, although I've still not actually 'got over it' yet... :(
Completely unplayable for me.
Strangely, I expected NMS to be one of the smoother games considering the Gold proton rating, however it's been a complete fail for me: I've tried playing on MANY different proton versions:
- Proton-GE-7.9
- Proton Experimental
- Proton 7.0
All versions didn't work, after hitting 'Play' Steam would perform a cloud sync, and a mere second after the sync finishes, the 'Stop' button returns to 'Play' as if the game never opened, it seems to hard-crash, I cannot even find any logs anywhere. I also tried a few of the commands / configs left by reports here, all to no avail, welp!
All of my Steam Cloud saves were 'overwritten' and seemingly nuked after playing a short session of NMS, unfortunate but I can deal with that as long as the game runs smooth and assuming I'll be able to save in some form in future games created on Linux!
Disregard my previous report a few hours ago; that was actually a Proton issue (I was running NMS on a fresh, external NTFS drive assuming it would run fine, however Proton does not have good support for NTFS drives, I reformatted to EXT4 and now games are running fantastic!).
The game runs absolutely perfectly at first glance, the windowing is great, the loading is fast, and gameplay itself is super smooth without any stutters or framerate issues.
However, I have not tested online-play, and I also realised that ALL of my cloud saves were completely nuked, Steam does not even recall any of them (and yet, I only played a single one of the saves), so, if you're moving from playing Windows NMS, be wary of your saves potentially being nuked from existence!
If I Alt-Tab while the game is loading, or if a world is loading, the game will usually crash. However the Windowing/Fullscreen itself is perfectly fine, and Alt-Tabbing is fine as long as it's not during any loading.
Totally recommended! I'm super happy with the game, there's no game-changing bugs whatsoever, the only minor windowing / alt-tab bug can be avoided easily by just not changing window while the game is loading something.
Flawless multiplayer! Even with degraded internet, on a server from a different continent.
Nothing more to say other than 'flawless'! The game didn't have a single issue, ran just like native Windows, I didn't notice any performance hit at all, nor experienced any issues, I had played two or three matches during this time, as SCPs and as Class-D's, top notch!
Gameplay was perfectly smooth, played a couple levels without a hitch, the only slight complaint is there was a bit of jittery-ness during the main menu loading - it lasted about 10 seconds, then suddenly 'snapped' back to perfect performance for the rest of the session, overall, the gameplay was perfectly playable, hitting 300+ FPS if left uncapped!
Awesome game to pass the time while grinding at JS + AI
The game runs awesome! I believe it's an Electron application, so it's fully native to Linux and thus runs flawlessly, no proton required, however I'm leaving the review just to show that the game indeed runs nice on Linux with zero configuration. Writing an army of bots is fun!
Ran perfectly!
Ran Proton 7.0 through Steam, it automatically installed any dependencies needed, ran the installers, and then the game opened buttery smooth, performance was, arguably, better than Windows performance (I've ran both native Windows and now Steam Proton versions of Sprocket), overall, even with low playtime, this feels perfect!
PROTON_NO_FSYNC=1 WINE_FULLSCREEN_FSR_STRENGTH=5 WINE_FULLSCREEN_FSR=1 DXVK_ASYNC=1 taskset -c 0,1,2,3 nice %command%
Multiplayer ran very stable, joined a rather large lobby with 7 players and heard voice-chatting, folks doing stuff, there was some network lag, but this may simply be on my side, not a Proton nor Game issue.
I initially tried playing with zero tinkering, just out-of-the-box with Proton 7.0.1, and the gameplay was certainly playable (hopping around 40 to 60 FPS on medium settings), but if you prefer over 60 FPS at decent graphics, some very minor tinkering is required.
However, after installing Proton-GE and messing with launch commands, the game ran PERFECTLY, in fact, it ran BETTER than native Windows, at over 80 FPS stable, hitting 100 FPS in light areas, and this was all using High (preset) graphical settings at 1080p, outstanding performance with minor tinkering!
Runs Awesome Native!
Not a single issue: performance is top-notch, I've not even touched the Windows version and I don't intend to, it runs absolutely perfect on my Linux machine, have played Valheim solo for hours now, completely immersed! GG Coffee Stain!
