Switching between Proton versions will reset settings.
Set refresh rate to 40 Hz. With the .dll fix applied, might as well play at a consistent 40 FPS and get a bit more on-battery playtime.
Launcher only works with touchscreen
Have to switch to Proton 8.0-3 for the initial opening movie to play properly (default was 7.0-6). However, the movie after leaving the starting town will not play on any Proton version I tried, except GE where both movies play without audio.
By default, the game runs pretty badly. The initial main menu runs at 36 FPS, starting town at 30-40 FPS, and laggy areas like Leafy Laforet goes down to a crawling 15-20 FPS.
Fortunately, you can apply this fix by the creator of dxvk: https://github.com/doitsujin/atelier-sync-fix/releases/latest
By just dropping the .dll file into the game folder, most areas will run at 50-60 FPS, and even Leafy Laforet runs at 40-45 FPS.
Side note, loading times seems to be frame rate/refresh rate dependant, where areas load quicker when playing on 60 Hz than on 40 Hz. Not too much of a big deal for me personally, except maybe when farming materials by switching areas constantly, which I would then switch to 60 Hz to make it less annoying.
Played through the entire main story on Proton 7.0-6 only to realize there's supposed to be opening, "title", and ending movies when I looked through the Extras menu. All 3 movies plays normally on Proton Experimental.
No other issues otherwise, both on default Proton 7.0-6 and Proton Experimental.
Game would sometimes randomly crash with a long error message on startup.
Set TDP to 10W
Slight stuttering/frame pacing issues randomly at 60fps. Set refresh rate to 59hz fixes it and have a smooth experience.
Other than video assets failing to load, everything else runs perfectly
All video assets (intro screen, class selection menu, deep dive menu) fail to load and are replaced by a colored bars test pattern.
Works flawlessly
My previous report that in-game videos failing to load is obsolete, game now runs flawlessly.
Works out of box
Did not experience any issues. Multiplayer works as expected too.
Works perfectly, intro cutscene problem can be fixed in settings
By default, the intro cutscene will fail to load and only show a black screen, which can be skipped with mouse click.
To fix it, go to Settings > Graphics and set Video Player to "Unity", which will fix the intro for future launches.
PULSE_LATENCY_MSEC=60 gamemoderun %command%
Audio randomly crackles by default. Adding PULSE_LATENCY_MSEC=60
to launch options fixes it.
Native has a few problems, Proton runs perfectly out of the box
- Performance on Proton is better than Native, with less stutters while moving the camera as well as higher framerates.
- Native also couldn't recognize the right trigger on my Logitech F710, while it worked perfectly on Proton.
Proton works out of the box
On first launch, the 2K Launcher initially showed that no games were installed, but subsequent launches doesn't have the issue and the game can be played normally.
Never bothered running native since everyone claims it is buggy and performs worse than Proton.
gamescope -f %command%
Game would not fullscreen properly with Sway + nwg-panel, gets placed below the top panel which cuts off the game at the bottom of the screen.
Workaround by forcing fullscreen using gamescope -f %command%
.
Aside from setup-specific fullscreen issues, everything else works flawlessly.
Infrequent white flashing can be annoying at times
Certain objects or even the whole screen may flash white every so often. Seems to be related to lighting, as it happens more frequently when there's more lighting effects on screen.
