Change the game's resolution to match steam deck's:
/home/deck/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/1502980/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/Documents/KoeiTecmo/Atelier Firis DX/Setting.ini
and edit these two lines: ScreenWidth=1280 ScreenHeight=800
Enable per-game profile
Frame Limit: 60 FPS (60Hz)
There's a secondary launcher that will pop up.
You can either use touchscreen, or hold steam key + right trackpad + R2 to click "Start Game".
You NEED to use this fix to improve your FPS.
https://github.com/doitsujin/atelier-sync-fix/releases/tag/v0.5
and put the .dll file into your game directory:
/home/deck/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/common/Atelier Firis DX/
Without these fixes, FPS would be around 30 to 40 even on max settings. If you're fine with that then you can play it straight out of the box.

Aside from the inability to alt-tab and stay fullscreen, the game runs perfectly with no bugs or errors.
Alt-tabbing exits fullscreen and it's a struggle to go back to fullscreen after the fact. I just ended up playing the whole game windowed, just slightly smaller than fullscreen, instead.
Use the wonderland costume as much as possible, unless you want to rush ng+ in which case it doesn't matter.

OP/ED audio is missing

Set refresh rate to 40 Hz. With the .dll fix applied, might as well play at a consistent 40 FPS and get a bit more on-battery playtime.
Launcher only works with touchscreen
Have to switch to Proton 8.0-3 for the initial opening movie to play properly (default was 7.0-6). However, the movie after leaving the starting town will not play on any Proton version I tried, except GE where both movies play without audio.
By default, the game runs pretty badly. The initial main menu runs at 36 FPS, starting town at 30-40 FPS, and laggy areas like Leafy Laforet goes down to a crawling 15-20 FPS.
Fortunately, you can apply this fix by the creator of dxvk: https://github.com/doitsujin/atelier-sync-fix/releases/latest
By just dropping the .dll file into the game folder, most areas will run at 50-60 FPS, and even Leafy Laforet runs at 40-45 FPS.
Side note, loading times seems to be frame rate/refresh rate dependant, where areas load quicker when playing on 60 Hz than on 40 Hz. Not too much of a big deal for me personally, except maybe when farming materials by switching areas constantly, which I would then switch to 60 Hz to make it less annoying.
No audio during movies with eggroll, no movies at all with default proton.
Unstable 40 fps until a fix is applied
In order to make the game run at smooth 60fps apply this fix https://github.com/doitsujin/atelier-sync-fix/releases/tag/v0.5
dxvk.conf with 'd3d9.deferSurfaceCreation = True'
Without the dxvk.conf framerates are very low. No problems with the file.
I was playing this game without no crash at all
Needs to play the opening and ending for this game other than that its great experience.
Create a dxvk.conf in the same folder as Atelier_Firis_DX.exe just like the reports from Atelier Ryza 2 does. Add d3d9.deferSurfaceCreation = True line in dxvk.conf or the game will start with a blank white screen.
The game window will be downsize to about 1280x720 after switching to other applications(using fullscreen mode). In windowed mode its always 1280x720.
Update: disable "xbox configuration support" in Steam Big Picture Controller Settings, then go to game Properties->Controller, set override to "Disable Steam Input" makes the controller worked and detected by the game(in-game prompt became X/Y/A/B instead of keyboard keys).
Digital Art Book can not be launched in the launcher, and the intro movie is not able to be played in the game with the default Proton.
Creating a DXVK config file is required to launch and play the game, but controller support might not work out-of-box

The resolution of game window is sometimes changed back to 1280x720 after switching to other applications.
The controller I have (Logitech F310) does not work on this game(Xbox mode, with and without Steam controller override; this controller works fine in non-DX Atelier Sophie).
