AMD_VULKAN_ICD=RADV PROTON_ENABLE_NVAPI=1 VKD3D_CONFIG=dxr gamemoderun %command% -dx12
Ground textures was glitchy with amdvlk vulkan driver. If you have an AMD GPU, make sure to use RADV vulkan driver instead of AMDVLK (by using the launch options AMD_VULKAN_ICD=RADV)
Works like a charm out of the box
Sometimes game freezes after a dialogue. The window is still responding but no action can be done in-game, leaving no choice but to close the game without saving. Not sure if it is related with Linux though.
No longer works due to EasyAntiCheat added to last update.
Used to work fine, too bad.
Works like a charm
When Steam Controller is disconnected, it is no longer recognized when plugged back in, and game tends to freeze afterwards.
5.9-GE-5-ST GloriousEggroll
Used Proton GE : https://github.com/GloriousEggroll/proton-ge-custom/releases
I had to repeatedly press the Escape key to get past the Gearbox logo on startup (until the main menu is reached), or else the game would just crash. Introduction video on a new save could not load with Proton <= 6, works fine with latest version of Proton
Played the whole demo without any major issue
Sometimes ambient music stops for no reason, but restarts later
Works fine out of box. If you use mods (for instance More Company), make sure to change the launch options like below
WINEDLLOVERRIDES="winhttp.dll=n,b" %command%
Some random freeze of 2-5s, once in a while
Played the entire game flawlessly
UI was a bit laggy since my laptop isn't very powerful
Game doesn't exit correctly, I have to kill the process (simply click on Steam's "Stop" button). I used Proton 5.13-6, not the latest version, that might have been fixed by now.
Played the whole game without major issues
Some part of the game were below 30 fps, given that I'm playing on an old latptop with low specs.
Game freezed on some rare occasions (3~4 times in 40h of gameplay), constraining me to exit the game without saving.
Game runs fine, some lags due to my low hardware
Experienced some lags with low FPS, but it was rather the fault of my hardware than Proton. Had the same problems when playing on Windows, as my hardware barely meets the minimal system requirements.
Followed WolfangAukang's instructions below
Sometimes my controller is not recognized (Steam Controller)
A lot of crash (one every few hours) occurs during dialogue, fights, and so on. Pretty annoying since it can occur after beating a boss but before having the opportunity to save...
To make it work, I had to choose Proton 5.0 (not working on Proton 5.13 for me). Plus, to reduce crash frequency, I moved the game to my internal disk drive (instead of an external USB hard drive), and set graphics options to low.
Could not get past "Create a save" when launching the game with Valve's vanilla Proton (1 month ago)
Game works perfectly fine, no issue encountered during the whole first episode. No tweaks used
The game wrongly recognized my laptop's accelerometer as a controller, which cause the main menu to be endlessly scrolled. To fix it, I typed the following command in a terminal, with <STEAM>
being the folder where Steam is installed, and <PROTON>
being the folder of the Proton's version used, inside Steam's common folder :
STEAM_COMPAT_DATA_PATH=<STEAM>/steamapps/compatdata/412830/ <PROTON>/proton run <STEAM>/steamapps/compatdata/412830/pfx/drive_c/windows/system32/control.exe
I then opened the controllers list and remove my accelerometer.
Otherwise, no issues with neither my mouse nor my touchpad.
I was able to get to one of the endings without any issues. The only problem I encountered was due to my laptop's accelerometer messing with the controls, but it might not be related to Proton. Perhaps it also occurs on Windows...
I was also able to install the Steam improvement patch thanks to the instructions from how do i name's report.
Works fine with latest proton. S;G0 steam patch works too and improves the quality of the game.
Sound crackled sometimes. To fix it, I set the launch options to PULSE_LATENCY_MSEC=60 %command%
Got one of the endings without any major issues.
Installing the Steins;Gate 0 steam patch greatly improved the game, with better translations, fonts, and so on. Linux instructions are available in their website. However, at the time this report has been written, one instruction is missing to install correctly the patch. You have to install Visual C++ Runtime 2017 inside the game's prefix before running the patch installer. To do so, if you have installed protontricks, run inside a terminal this command:
protontricks 825630 vcrun2017
More information on github's issue.
5.9-GE-5-ST GloriousEggroll
Used Glorious Eggroll's fork of proton (5.9-GE-5-ST).
I did not encounter any issue with Proton GE, though the game crashed once, but it might not be related to Proton. This wasn't much of a big deal since the game has auto saves.
I didn't try vanilla Proton, since some people reported issues in chapter 5.
Played the whole game without any major issue
If in-game setting "Master volume" is not set to 100%, audio crackling occurs often (might not be related to Proton, I haven't checked if the issue exists on Windows)
Game stuck on a black screen after switching focus (ie Alt-Tab, going back to the desktop...)
