Works great but need to downgrade proton to fix the mouse cursor ingame. Use my launch settings to fix the UI scale on higher resolutions
gamescope --backend=sdl -w 2560 -h 1080 -W 3440 -H 1440 -b -f -F fsr -- %command%
The game will run at 500FPS if you don't lock it, funny devs put the fps lock setting in "options, Advanced graphics".
Unlilke The lord of the Rings Online, you cannot scale the UI so you'll have to rely on gamescope to make the text readable, You could just play the game at a lower resolution but it does look blurry.
Run the game at native resolution while rendering the game at a lower one, not only this but you'll be able to add FSR to fix the blurriness of it, all this using the launch options you see on top check all of this here: .
Remember to change it with your own dsplay resolution
A smooth and sharp 30fps experience with the right settings listed below and forced 720p resolution
MESA_VK_WSI_PRESENT_MODE=immediate %command%
Set the game as 1280x720, as in ultrawide resolutions the game still renders behind the blackbars, we need to squeeze any performance available, the game is locked at 16:9 there's no point on setting 800p resolution
Steam performance settings:
- Frame Limit 30 FPS (60Hz)
- Enable Allow tearing
- TDP limit 10W
The game drains around 16W ~ 18,5W quite less than running at 40fps it was draining 25 and not with an unstable framerate
Graphic settings:
- Resolution: 1280x720
- Autodetect settings: On
- Raytracing: Off
- Texture Quality: High
- Antialiasing: High
- SSAO (User preference): Off
- DOF: Off
- Motion Blur (Needed at 30fps): High
- Shadow: Medium
- Lighting: Medium
- Effects: Low
- Volumetric: Low
- Reflection: Low
- Water Surface: Low
- Shader Quality: Medium
- Global Illumination: Medium
- Grass Quality: Medium
A stutter fest, works fine but will get anoying after playing for a while, tested all proton versions, gamemode and gamescope, non fixed it
Constant stutters
I tested several proton versions, tried to run the game with many launch options, using gamemode and gamescope.
Non will make the game stutter free.
It's playable and works OK, but you'll keep getting stutters and missing some shots because of this
With the latest version of the game, running on plasma 6 and wyland game runs awesome without any tweak, you can optimize it more of course
gamemoderun %command%
White borders on borderless, gamescope solves the issue but I try to avoid using it
Did not tweaked any proton or steam versions, game and gamemode, gamescope tests
Game runs incredibly smooth just like windows, it's a joy to play this game again. Laucher EAC error can be fixed, see below:
DXVK_ASYNC=1 PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 gamemoderun %command%
If you are using any arch distro (I'm using EndeavourOS) You'll need to install an EAC glibc "patch", use this command:
yay -S lib32-glibc-eac-bin glibc-eac
This launcher EAC error happened to me with squad too, with the glibc fix it's solved
Yet another abandoned native, force old proton versions to avoid DirectX3D and OpenGL issues. Remember to switch to OpenGL
Huge framerate drops while using DirectX3D, switch to OpenGL
Multiplayer runs excellent
The default boot configuration is Linux Runtime which does not work, so you have to force a proton version manually.
In my hardware I had a hard time running the game with a consistent framerate using DirectX3D and Directx3D 9.0, input latency and fps dropping to 20's on combat. I used to run this game without issues in my old geforce 210 back in 2010, so I deduced it had to be DirectX3D
OpenGL runs good on old proton versions. you can play the game at full speed with OpenGL and it'll even look better somehow. On the new ones it gave me some issues, like not displaying the game on the correct resolution.
You can change the max fps in the ini settings but I didn't found that worth.
The game screen weirdness on each boot and strange resolutions changes is something that I'm used to as it was the same with in windows back in the day, even mouse setting resetting on each boot, kinda infuriating but I cannot get mad at this lovely game
A smooth experience with the right settings, without them it's sadly unplayable. Resolution settings can only be made from the Main menu
DXVK_ASYNC=1 %command%
- Disable Frame Limit
- Screen Refresh Rate to 40 Hz
- Allow Tearing
- TPD Limit to 14 (Lowest you can get)
- With this review setting you'll sit on 22W drain on the LCD model
There are many performance issues with this game, some are that the game enters a slow motion state and you can get some stutters if you use the wrong or default settings.
I invested a couple hours testing settings until I found the perfect ones.
I tried playing with FXAA and lowering the resolution fixed to 80% but It looks too bad, some other settings are worth setting them to medium instead of all low.
Also the FSR 2 alternative makes the game look really good within the limitations of this hardware, I found this to be the best way to play and enjoy this game on the go
Keep in mind to change resolution from the MAIN MENU, or it´ll reset to default settings if you are ingame
- Motion Blur: ON (you need this)
- Borderless
- Vertical Sync: ON (you also need this)
- Dynamic Resolution Scaling: OFF ( This must be OFF or Upsampler will lock)
- Upsampler: AMD FSR 2
- Upsampler Preset: Performance
- Upsampler Sharpenning: 0% (I suspect a higher setting could affect performace, it could also introduce some pixeling, shader dots or ghosting effects which for the resolution we'll play and the size of the screen it's better to avoid)
- Texture Quality: Medium
- Shadow Quality: Low
- Texture Filtering: Low
- Ambient Oclusion: OFF
- Effects Detail: Low
- Geometry Detail: Medium
- Anti-Aliasing: TTA (Locked)
- Terrain Quality: Low
- Vegetation Detail: Low
- Post Process Quality: Low
- Lighting Quality: Low
- Depth of Field: Low
- Reflection Quality: Low
A flawless and blurry free experience with the right settings for the game and the Steam Deck. Check down below to set graphics to LOW
DXVK_ASYNC=1 %command%
Disable Frame Limit and set the display to 40 Hz, Allow Tearing and Limit TDP to 10. Running from the SD card
With some settings to LOW we are sitting on 20W from 23W that was draining before, stuttering is fixed and game looks really sharp.
Temporal AA adds a great cinematic effect, but I preffer sharpness over this effect, also there are many textures that do really pop up now, so IMO game is a lot more enjoyable without Anti-Aliasing
As you may know if you already played this game before, graphics cannot be lowered from MEDIUM and there's no way to disable Temporal AA which makes the game a washed out and blurry fest. Thankfully there's a workaround:
- Enter Settings -> Video -> and hover over "Graphics Quality" which are the presets
- Press A to select it, and then press B without any other input between. This'll set all settings to LOW and disable AA
Here is my settings list:
Max FPS 45 (Irrelevant)
Vsync: ON
Dynamic Resolution: OFF ( Game looks really bad with this on and the deck is more than capable of delivering a native resolution)
View distance: MEDIUM
Shadow Quality: LOW
Anti-Aliasing: OFF
Texture Quality: HIGH
Visual Effects: MEDIUM
Motion Blur: OFF (I usually play my games with this but this game looks really blurry)
Film Grain: OFF
Chromatic: OFF
Camera Shake: ON
Classic 30 FPS, given the hardware there's no need to push it further. With this settings we are sitting at ~22W outside, ~14W inside.
MESA_VK_WSI_PRESENT_MODE=immediate %command%
Add this mod on the engine.ini inside the prefix
Then add this lines to DISABLE LUMEN and FIX MOTION BLUR:
[/Script/Engine.RendererSettings]
r.Lumen.DiffuseIndirect.Allow=0
[ConsoleVariables]
r.Lumen.DiffuseIndirect.Allow=0
r.MotionBlurQuality=2
r.MotionBlur.Amount=0.39 ; Shutter angle
r.MotionBlurSeparable=1 ; Makes the blur less grainy
r.MotionBlur.TargetFPS=0 ; 0 = automatic ||| will auto-adjust based on FPS. Leave it at 0
r.MotionBlur.Max=5 ; Maximum width of the blur in percentage of the screen size
- Steam deck Frame Limit 60FPS (60Hz)
- Allow tearing
- TDP limit to 14W
See below for in-game settings
Slight fps drops or stutters on zone loading, happens on any hardware, and the stutters where present on the original game
FPS can drop to 25 on open world combat, could be fixed disabling TDP limit but power drain would go through the roof.
My optimal Game settings:
- Fullscreen
- V-Sync: OFF
- Frame Rate Limit: 30
- FOV: 75
- Motion Blur: ON (With the engine.ini changes makes 30fps buttery smooth)
- Screen Space: OFF
- View distance: Medium
- Effects: Lowest
- Foliage: Low
- Shadow: Low
- Global Illumination: Lowest
- Texture: Medium (can be set to high)
- Hair Quality: Low
- Cloth Quality: Low
- Lumen HW: OFF
- Lumen Software: Low (Does not matter we disabled it completely on the engine.ini)
- FSR3: Balanced, or Performance, User preference
- FSR3-Sharpness: 30
- FSR3-FrameGen: OFF (Get that aberration out of my face)
