game crashes if you tab out, fullscreen, borederless or windowed doesnt matter
game crashes if you tab out

Perfect out of box experience.
Install and play.

Works as well as on windows, except the launcher fails to launch the game on KDE for whatever reason.
EA Launcher CANNOT launch the game on KDE, GNOME works fine (both wayland). Very weird.

-vulkan
nice graphics its 1.99 euro atm

tried multiple Proton versions and running with and without gamescope
had a couple of crashes over my 4.4 hours play time. Also every time I finish any event or get an achievement or anything similar I get a small game stutter (it's not unplayable but it's a little annoying)
I couldn't get back to the game after switching workspaces on Hyprland. (This can be fixed by switching to Windowed mode in game settings)

This game works great on Linux, just the DRM checks don't. So you have to run Steam, EA App and the game inside one Wine prefix.
-silent steam://rungameid/1846380
Installed Steam via lutris, installed the game and ran it.
Game needs to run under gamescope or it will crash.
The game was really stuttery. Edited my swap file to 16Gb, and I have 16Gb of RAM. Now it doesn't stutter.
Having EA App overlay enabled causes the game to crash.
The game itself is great but EA App/DRM checks in general are really bad. Running everything through Lutris with gamescope just worked and I'm happy that it does :) Launching directly from native Linux Steam lead to EA App not being able to be installed, and if installed manually it'd still crash and not launch the game.

A smooth experience with the right settings, without them it's sadly unplayable. Resolution settings can only be made from the Main menu
DXVK_ASYNC=1 %command%
- Disable Frame Limit
- Screen Refresh Rate to 40 Hz
- Allow Tearing
- TPD Limit to 14 (Lowest you can get)
- With this review setting you'll sit on 22W drain on the LCD model
There are many performance issues with this game, some are that the game enters a slow motion state and you can get some stutters if you use the wrong or default settings.
I invested a couple hours testing settings until I found the perfect ones.
I tried playing with FXAA and lowering the resolution fixed to 80% but It looks too bad, some other settings are worth setting them to medium instead of all low.
Also the FSR 2 alternative makes the game look really good within the limitations of this hardware, I found this to be the best way to play and enjoy this game on the go
Keep in mind to change resolution from the MAIN MENU, or it´ll reset to default settings if you are ingame
- Motion Blur: ON (you need this)
- Borderless
- Vertical Sync: ON (you also need this)
- Dynamic Resolution Scaling: OFF ( This must be OFF or Upsampler will lock)
- Upsampler: AMD FSR 2
- Upsampler Preset: Performance
- Upsampler Sharpenning: 0% (I suspect a higher setting could affect performace, it could also introduce some pixeling, shader dots or ghosting effects which for the resolution we'll play and the size of the screen it's better to avoid)
- Texture Quality: Medium
- Shadow Quality: Low
- Texture Filtering: Low
- Ambient Oclusion: OFF
- Effects Detail: Low
- Geometry Detail: Medium
- Anti-Aliasing: TTA (Locked)
- Terrain Quality: Low
- Vegetation Detail: Low
- Post Process Quality: Low
- Lighting Quality: Low
- Depth of Field: Low
- Reflection Quality: Low
Works flawlessly. No issues. Launching the game can take some time but after it has started everything runs perfectly.

i love uneccesary launchers ^ω^
tried 7 diff proton versions - cant get past ea app installation script

Slow motion
Cloud conflict
Once you enter the game, in the steam performance grid for the game start using the game-specific profile and set it like this. Frame rate limit 30 frames with 60Hz (if you want a smoother gameplay during online you will have to sacrifice the fps a bit but the difference it's almost non-existent) Scaling mode: fit (third button) After that, go to game settings on graphics and set it like that : MOTION BLUR: OFF (if you want, i don't like it) | COLORBLIND MODE: OFF | GAMMA CORRETION: 50% | SCREEN MODE: Fullscreen | FULLSCREEN DEVICE: 1 | SCREEN RESOLUTION: 1280X800 | VERTYCAL SYNC: ON | DYNAMIC RESOLUTION SCALING: ON | DRS TARGET: 60Hz (30Hz with this setup don't feel smooth at all) | UPSAMPLER OFF (LOCKED) | UPSAMPLER PRESET | PERFORMANCE (LOCKED) | RESOLUTION SCALE: 100% | GRAPHICS QUALITY: Costum | from here turn everything on lowest
This setup should let you play smooth NFS Unbound in story and online mode without any problems, slow motion times or crashes! I test it a long time and still work great! Also don't use any proton in proprieties, will slow the performance if so!

It just works
Download and play, no thinkering needed from my side. Same smooth gameplay as on Windows 11.

At times game appears to be running at slow motion, usually when a lot of things is on screen.

Works without any issues!
All seems very good! Happy it works so well!

Switched to Arch Linux(CachyOS recently) Here's what worked. Install with Proton 8.0-5 because of EA app. Then run with Proton Experimental.
%command%
First run compiles shaders at loading screen which may take awhile. Hopefully your patience is rewarded.

Better load times and FPS than windows 11. Controller has issues at time but disabling Steam input seems to help.
gamemoderun %command%
Was doubtful it would work but it does albeit with a little tinkering.
works great on mesa 24.1.6.1 after update to mesa 24.2.1.1 gets directx error. also tried beta 24.3.0 mesa and gets the same error

The (program) crashes (not the car crashes) are too frequent to enjoy the game.
Game crashed after making my avatar. It also froze my PC after finishing the first race.

Game installs. EA app launches, but game either does not launch, or does not display.
Game does not load. Issue appears to be with the EA app.

Something went wrong…
Unnecessary launchers continue to be a plight. Thought I'd try this out since it's free for the weekend, but nope! Sure enough, the report from three months ago complaining about the launcher is still just as true today. I'm sure the game works great if it could just launch the launcher. Would not recommend.

The game works flawlessly as it is straight out of the box. But data does not get sync so you're forced to a single platform.
Data Sync is not available on EA Play, essentially whiping out your progress. Noticeable if you switch from any Linux distro to a Windows desktop.
Perfect when you don't intend to switch platforms or you don't do any of that at all. When you have to move between Linux and Windows quite often it becomes an issue to see your progress vanish. Haven't tried changing save files to match those of my Windows PC, but with Denuvo on this game I wouldn't dare.

Occasional slow motion that resolves itself.
A couple glitches with online events but far inbetween.
Set graphics to auto and turned DRS to 30fps. Maintaines around 40fps.

Some minor inconveniences but the game itself works flawlessly.
Game boots but doesn't automatically display, Alt-Tabbing into the window brings it up no problems.
On the games library view with my PS5 controller plugged in, I had to click "View controller settings" and disable the steam input. Steam will claim the controller is not supported but it works fine and is the only way I managed to get my controller to actually work in game. Works flawlessly now though.
Beyond the minor issues mentioned below the game works fine. I've just played a multiple hour long session with no degradation whatsoever. The game itself is issue free for me.

Sometime I got slowdown like slow motion. Restarting the game fix the problem for a while.
Runs good enough, but occasional slow motion ruins the experiances.

DRI_PRIME=1 VKD3D_FILTER_DEVICE_NAME="NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Laptop GPU" DXVK_FILTER_DEVICE_NAME="NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Laptop GPU" %command%
fixed by disabling kernel splitlocking
sudo sysctl kernel.split_lock_mitigate=0

I had to switch to proton 7 to make EA launcher download EAapp and then switch back to Proton GE to run EAapp
DRI_PRIME=1 VKD3D_FILTER_DEVICE_NAME="NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 Laptop GPU" DXVK_FILTER_DEVICE_NAME="NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 Laptop GPU" %command%
For some reason it defaulted to using my integrated gpu so it freezes on a black screen, so i had to force it to use my dedicated gpu with those launch options
Find out which GPU you have with vulkaninfo --summary. Find the GPU you want to use and copy the deviceName
Add these launch options (replace the XXX with the deviceName): DRI_PRIME=1 VKD3D_FILTER_DEVICE_NAME="XXX" DXVK_FILTER_DEVICE_NAME="XXX" %command%.

EA launcher breaks the game
I don't recommend playing this game now or in the future. I have seen this game working on and off, depending on the update. Every time EA updates their launcher, you won't be able to play because the game won't even start or if it does, the performance will be unplayable.
I have also experience frame rate inconsistencies in past updates when the game was playable, with unexpected freezes and slowdowns (can be fixed by restarting most of the time).
Сперва запускается EA Launcher, после запускается сама игра с черным экрано, и через пару секунд закрывается все, и EA Launcher и сама игра.

Protontricks used to install Origin and its patch to the game's proton prefix
Out of the box, the game is not playable, thanks to the EA app. However it is still possible to downgrade it to Origin and enjoy the game normally. The steps for that can be found here: https://github.com/p0358/Fuck_off_EA_App/
But outside of that, the game runs great. Did not experience any graphical issues and my controller worked just fine. NOTE: at the time of writing, I did not try to play online, so I'm unsure if it works or not.

Only open EA Launcher then closed
gamemoderun %command%
Also tested with other version of proton but get same result.

gamemoderun %command%
The command is only needed if you're playing with a controller, which I am. Otherwise, after the shaders finished compiling, no issues after that! It runs great, it works great.
The only thing is, if you want DLSS, you might have to do a bit more tinkering, but FSR2 is available and it works fine.
