After about an hour the game will crash
Just use the native version of the game.
Crashes on boot
Do not recommend right now. Tried on day one with Proton Hotfix, Proton Experimental, and Proton-GE, nothing worked. All crashed with the same error right after the initial startup video.
Hopefully this gets resolved soon, but for now I'm going to refund and wait for it to get fixed.
Post installation steps get stuck at 4/8
I was all prepped to use the workarounds listed by other users, but when I launched the game for the first time to do the post install steps the process froze at 4/8.
Furthermore, it soft bricks the installation, because I can't even get Fable to uninstall from Steam. I have to manually delete the folder and prefix myself, then restart steam and tell it to uninstall Fable 3, at which point it will detect that the directory is gone and remove it from my installed games list.
With the caveat that they must use a specific version of Proton, everything would be good.
I first tried Horizon with Proton 6.3.6 and Proton 6.3.7, but in both versions I had severe audio desync and what I can only describe as sluggish control input. As soon as I switched over to the Proton Experimental version and waited through a long ass shader processing phase, audio desyncs are gone and the input feels super fluid now.
The launch options I use are not required. I just did that so I could get access to Nvidia ray tracing. Just use Proton Experimental

The online play works flawlessly
Icarus is, surprisingly enough, one of the MOST stable games I've played on Linux. (Which is saying a lot, actually).
Given that most of the visual bugs are almost completely unnoticeable if you'd never played on Windows I'd say, yes.
The full motion videos are missing. The start menu shows a missing video background and the cut scenes that rely on a FMV don't play, the game just skips them, so if you'd never played on Windows you wouldn't even know that you were missing something, minus the game referring to stuff that it seems like it never told you.
When you enter the dust your character's gas mask texture is missing, so it looks like he's not wearing a gas mask. That's really the only noticeable outside of the FMVs.
One of the obvious bugs in 6.3-6, the missing gas mask texture, has been resolved by using experimental, so overall it's even better.
The full motion videos don't seem to play. The start menu and cut scenes that rely on them either are auto skipped or a missing video placeholder is shown.
I haven't tried Ready or Not yet with a stock version of Proton, so it might run just fine with those as well.

Doesn't seem to work anymore
Tried Proton EXPERIMENTAL and GE versions as well as -dx11, nothing works. Game just shows as "running" even though nothing happens.
In my experience its a bit of a hassle when your friends try to connect to you, but connecting to others is fine.
7.0rc3-GE-1 GloriousEggroll
-dx11
The problems only come in if your friends try to join your personal session. I got around this by hosting my own dedicated server, but obviously, that's not an option for everyone.
When I first tried to launch this game nothing happened, but that was likely something messed up on my machine. After a reboot everything works as expected.
I think the number of crashes and small annoying bugs would actually turn off typical gamer to The Ascent.
Sometimes items with glow effects render on top of other and through walls.
With v-sync on the cursor feels like it has some input delay, not much, like 150 - 250 ms, but enough that you can feel it.
Stuttering is common sometimes full second and a half pauses in the middle of action scenes.
I've had out of memory errors crash the game, hard freezes that forced me to kill the game and random unexplained crashes.
The game doesn't remember when you've dismissed a tutorial, so each time you start the game up all notification icons and tutorial popups will occur again and again. VERY annoying.
Broken by DRM
The DRM fails to install because it doesn't have administrator access.
A game crashing is one thing, but taking out the whole desktop environment in an unrecoverable fashion is a terrible experience.
Crashes every hour taking the whole Desktop Environment with it. Complete black screen on both monitors, but still able to hear game audio. Unable to drop to a separate tty session, only solution is to force reboot.
While all my other titles are fine, the issues I experienced might have been due to me running Wayland on Nvidia. My stabiltiy has been rock solid ever since the 555 driver drop, but I've only ever seen this kind of crash before with Nvidia and Wayland when there's an issue.
I need to give the game another go using X11 and see if the issue persists.
Vanilla version is borked, but there are tweaks
While Thief 2 won't launch on its own, there seems to be well documented and verified fixes by third party users for this.
I recommend scrolling down through the comments to find the tweak solution comments with the links to T2Fix and the Linux commands to run the fix on your Thief 2 proton prefix.
